Thanks for the episode. I wanted to point out that when investing via Vanguard, you own the underlying assets directly. Therefore, even if Vanguard got nuked, you would still own the assets. Hence, diversifying across several ETF issuers is redundant diversification. Meanwhile, if you invest in something like Spaceship, you do not own the underlying assets and Spaceship reserves the right to block you from accessing the assets.

Hi Alexander! Thanks for the comment! The Vanguard Personal Investor platform does not hold shares or ETFs on HIN - so the assets are not held like they are on Pearler, Stake or SelfWealth (for example). That is, CHESS. Vanguard uses a custodial model I believe. I prefer HIN though the custodial model is well established overseas (e.g. in the US). Inside of VDHG are other Vanguard funds so it really wouldn’t be good if Vanguard went bust (but it would be fair to say the world wouldn’t like that!). Thanks for comment Alexander!

@@Owenraszkiewicz I was referring to purchasing VDHG via a CHESS sponsored issuer. I don’t like the custodial model either. My salient point was that there’s no need to diversify into several ETFs since VDHG is quite well diversified already.

If that actually happened and Vanguard somehow went down - it would be a fucking nightmare owning 1500 positions + bonds

I’ve always wanted to know about shares and investments, and these days it looks like I’ll never really know about investing so I had to focus on sentiment as my walking stick, I just invested into the High diversified etf I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing but they took my money and I’m hoping by trying it out I will learn faster than I would not having any money on the line 😂

Do you categorise this as traditional index fund ETF or Because its got S&P ASX 300 Index funds and then of course other indexes from MSCI,& Bloomberg. So does this mean that anyone can create an Index?
@Owenraszkiewicz2 жыл бұрын
The funds inside VDHG track an index, and because we know their weightings within VDHG we can track the indices pretty easily. Alternatively we could just track a 90-10 (stocks-bonds) and use that to track how well VDHG is doing.

"small position" is that 10% of a $20,000 portfolio or 10% of $1,000,000 portfolio?
