In the early 90s, in Canada, my university residence bathroom was unisex. We had 8 people (4 guys and 4 girls) in our apartment. There were regular stalls for the 3 toilets, a bathtub/shower with a door and a shower with just a curtain. We never had any problems.

Actually, unless you’re talking about a one-stall situation, I’d much rather have a transgender woman use the bathroom with me than have to share a bathroom with men. Those urinals-no thanks! And if you’re non-binary and want to use the women’s bathroom, you’re welcome as well! I’ve found that non-binary people usually use the bathroom they favor physically so they won’t be harassed by the people inside.

I just want to remind everyone that transgendered people are American citizens. Therefore, they should expect the same protection and opportunities afforded any other American. The whole bathroom debate is absurd. If a person who identifies as a woman needs to go into a stall in the ladies room, then let her in. If a man wants to assault a woman, he doesn't have to put on a dress and make-up so that he can corner her in the bathroom.

I ran a student bar (In the UK) that had a single toilet. In all the times I worked there (I managed a much bigger bar but ran that place if that manager was on holiday.), I never encountered complaintes about the toilet. I've lived in shared housing with mixed sex people living there and only two toilets. I've been to clubs and gigs where the queues for the womens toilets are so long that women go and use a stall in the men's. This is pure culture war.

I'm old, I remember the segregation. I was also taught freedom wasn't dictated by someone else's ideas. I've always been shown tolerance is necessary in a free country. The funny thing is, here in Europe, I have, on more than one occasion, have it happen that when the ladies restroom was fully occupied with a line in front of the door, they would use the men’s stalls while there were men standing at the urinals doing their business. This is possible because: A) The men didn’t give a shit (sorry, couldn’t resist😂). B) The doors of the stalls go far enough down as to give you privacy. C) We all have bodily functions and the guys simply accepted that this was a temporary thing that helped relieve a pressing situation and helped the ladies out. In short, GROW UP!

I love telling these crazy weirdos about the time when I was thirteen, and we checked into a hotel in Darmstadt, Germany. I went downstairs to the indoor swimming pool. I went into the men's room, took a shower, put on my swim trunks, and then stepped into the sauna. I didn't realize it at first but the sauna had another door at the other end of it. After I laid out my towel and laid down on it, that other door opened and a middle aged woman wearing a towel walked in. Then she took off her towel and laid it on the bench across from me, and she stood there buck naked for a moment before laying down on her towel. Then when I went out into the pool are to take a cold plunge I noticed entire families with kids were running around and swimming totally naked. It was quite a shock and surprise for an American 13 year old.

They don't realize how arbitrarily binary they are being. I worked at a restaurant years ago which had two identical bathrooms side by side with the exact same things in each one. Toilet, sink, waste basket, toilet paper and paper towels. Same scented soap, too. No difference between the two, except that one had a sign that said "Men" and the other had a sign that said "Women." But any time one was in use and someone from the kitchen needed to go really quickly they simply ducked into which ever one wasn't being used. Because they probably waited until the very last moment when they couldn't hold it anymore, and they just needed to go. Every time some cranky weirdo customer saw that they would complain that an employee was "using the wrong bathroom" and try to make a big deal out of it. I usually assured them that both of our bathrooms were the right bathrooms and that none of our bathrooms were wrong. But that didn't seem to end their confusion. So one day I suggested that we should stop confusing customers by giving the bathrooms a gender and just call them bathrooms. The manager replaced the signs with "Bathroom 1" and " Bathroom 2" and the whiners stopped complaining immediately .

@@torre6721 The Stall "Doors" are approximately 1 1/3rd meter tall, and start approx 2/3rds of a meter from the floor. There is almost always a gap between the door and its posts that can be up to 10 centimeters. Any privacy you have in an American Mass Production Bathroom is imaginary at best. And the lock is a piece of shi* that can be opened from the outside with a One Euro Coin as a key.

Rarely do I see separate mens and women's bathrooms anymore. A bathroom is for any and all. BUT here is where the US needs to catch on. A bathroom - is a room you enter and you lock the door behind you. The room is an actual room, with regular walls. Nobody can "peep" inside. Inside the room is all you need, toilet, sink, soap, etc. Next to this room - you find a similar room. And so on. You do not "share" the bathroom with anybody at all.

We should all just get to do our private things privately. Though I had a bit of an insight recently, when I learned (I hope from a reputable source? It's so hard to be sure nowadays) that as a youngster JD Vance used to be afraid he was gay because of his dislike of women. My point is not really about Vance, though-it had just never occurred to me that someone might base their identity on the _dislike_ of others. I've always thought of mine in terms of who I _like._ But again, I want to stress that I fully support the idea of people being able to escape _both_ those who like them _and_ those who dislike them while they attend to their own needs. When i was in my 20's i used to go clubbing and every single club had gender nuteral bathrooms. One side were a row of urinals on the other where the stalls down the middle were a row of sinks with a huge dividing mirror. You know what happened? People stood around and talked as they waited to pee. we made friends. that was 20 years ago lord how things have degressed. However their right the same talking points have been used time and time again first it was people should be terrified of intergrating people of colour with whites, then you had the gay panic where straight women were terrified that lesbians would SA them in the bathroom and now it's the trans community dealing with the same narrow minded stupidity. Also people use pronouns all the bloody time how hard is it to grasp the concept of refering to someone by their chosen pronoun? The right wing have issues refering to people by the name or pronoun they want but have no issue refering to Marion Robert Morrison as john wayne. Yes that John waynes real name was Marion but it was changed as it wasn't manly enough. Odd that, so maybe people should start refering to John as Marion as that was his legal name. Almost all stars have stage names and no one moans and cries about using that. Several of the republican party changed their name funny how it's okay for them to do it and no one complains or cries that it's too confusing and wrong and that they wont call them it as it's not the name they were given.
