July 31 2022 I bid & won this Pi 1 Model B+ with a clear case for $29 thinking it was the newer model 3B+! I’m glad you have this info so I know I didn’t do that bad and can still use it? WOW THANKS!

Nice video tutorial. I have learned more about my Raspberry Pi 3 from you than from any other source. Keep up the great work! You know how to keep one´s attention, that´s for sure! :-D I love you ingenuity for putting scrap ¨things¨ to good use. I never throw anything away without thinking how it could be re-purposed.

Soap dispenser tube?! My oh my, I would have never thought of that. That is so very cool! I wish I wouldn't have thrown away all those thousands of soap dispenser tubes in the past. Very helpful and useful tutorial. My model B+ should be waiting for me when I get home today. I am so glad that there are now 4 USB ports, no need for a powered USB hub anymore, unless of course I want to attach a USB hard drive.

Wow Chris! That was quick, getting the product and getting your video out to the folks, thank you! Sound like all the things so far are going in the right direction with the Pi, just a matter of what to do with it from here! The options are unlimited, I agree robotics seem to be where the most usefulness will evolve as well as a teaching tool of course. Thank you for your efforts Chris, you are much appreciated! Moonpie

The Rasberry PI is perfect as an orbital rocket control computer. A few of those can pretty much handle all of the computational duties a full-sized rocket could possibly need.

Just got a B+ kit for $68 US (from Canakit) and hooked it up to our 'TV' (19" ViewSonic monitor). Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet except living room coding but it's just too cool of a little box not to have. I'm thinking/hoping that I can install XMBC for media playback along with the regular Raspian DE and have the best of both worlds. It's just too cool having a little computer that small and capable.

The Model B+ CPU/GPU and RAM are the same as the Model B. For higher specs, for now, you need something like a Banana Pi -- and I hope to do a review/setup of that sometime in August. So keep watching! :)

They should make an A+ version with a dual core 1ghz processor, 768MB RAM and a slightly better GPU. It should also come with a heatsink on the CPU and GPU for overclocking, e.g. taking the CPU from 1ghz to 1.2ghz and the GPU from 500mhz to 600mhz.

What cable is needed for the RCA composite out as well as sound for this model of the pi?
@ExplainingComputers
@ExplainingComputers 10 жыл бұрын
You need a lead that plugs into the Pi with one of those four-pole 3.5mm jacks at the end -- like the ones used to connect stereo headphones with a microphone, except here the extra contact is used for the composite video. At the other end you probably want three phono jacks (two for audio, one for composite video).

+Miangan Mcginnis Yes, the 3.5mm jack outputs both stereo audio and composite video -- it is one of those jacks with four pins, rather than the usual (stereo audio) three.

Samuel Ganawah They are very tiny, and were found in a bits box from a previous project, so I don't have the exact spec. But I think they are a 2mm thread and about 20mm in length. They have to be small, as the mounting holes on the Pi board are less than 3mm.

Is the raspberry pi powerful enough to play 1080p video over the network ?
@ExplainingComputers
@ExplainingComputers 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can play H.264 1920x1080 media at 24, 25 or 30fps no problem, as the GPU handles the decode. Other formats or higher frame rates will struggle though.

ExplainingComputers Two weeks ago, I didn't know what a raspberry Pi was. I received my b+ this week and now have the Raspbian software installed, USB Bluetooth, and USB wireless installed and working. Now, my next question....can this device support a SATA SSD (hardrive). The purpose for this device (Raspberry) is to control sensor devices in a fuel cell generator...so I have quite a way to go...but pretty much impressed with the ease in programing this device.
@ExplainingComputers
@ExplainingComputers 10 жыл бұрын
rick Whit There may be some hardware add on out there, but there is no native SATA on the Raspberry Pi -- you need a Banana Pi for that.

Is it hard to use Raspberry Pi for someone who is new to this ?
@ExplainingComputers
@ExplainingComputers 10 жыл бұрын
You need a bit of patience, but anybody who is familiar with using a computer should have no problems. Start with something like setting up Raspbian (as I show in my "Setting Up a Raspberry Pi" video), or a media player (as I show in my "Raspberry Pi XMBC Media Player" video). The latter option allows you to set up a Raspberry Pi to do something useful very quickly, and then after that you can experiment with other things. Maybe in time some electronics/robotics stuff and a bit of programming! :)

I don't think much to the Raspberry Pi, honestly. Being an quite efficient with C and microcontrollers I never really bothered with the R Pi because I couldn't integrate the chip directly in my designs (being BGA). Recently I needed something a little much powerful for a project and on a wim bought a R Pi. I have found just about nothing on efficient code with C (it's out there but very little). If you want to make a little linux computer and run some inefficient, boring, non industry standard Python then the R Pi is for you it seems...... unless you're an engineer capable of writing the C from scratch.
