@@ArjanvanVught For the hobby market? Sure/absolutely. But ST Micro will still hold fast to the industrial markets. The vast array of STM32 options available is crazy and you can tailor the choice of MCU to a product extremely well.

The "music" between segments is quite dreadful. It hurts the ears if the volume is set to adequately hear the speaker.

Interesting but the main drawback for me is the lack of WiFi. I use ESP8266/ESP32 which have WiFi and are in the same price bracket.

Thanks! Very nice! I ordered 4 to start playing with. I've been on the lookout for an Arduino upgrade, but wasn't happy with STM, nor ESP mostly because of lack of documentation. This might be it! Massimo should be worried indeed!

This new entry from the Pi guys isn't quite in the league of the ESP32, especially given the lack of wifi/bluetooth support. It seems to be better suited to compete with the STM32F line of micros although maybe it's just a product that's too little too late.

If compilation time is ok it might be interesting. I loathe the ESP32 for giving time to make and drink coffee while compiling. For me the most elegant board, albeith a little expensive, remains the ItsyBitsy M4. Especially how fast compilation and uploading goes. And they have decent power: 2 DAC's, 120Mhz, 2MB flash, probably outperforming a PiPico running Python. STM's look nice on paper, but they are not plug-and-play.

I bought a pico board once. The code was so advanced I had no idea how to use it. I picked up Arduino in a matter of days. My pico still in its box where it will remain till the end of time.

I see on the Raspberry Pi's site they are showing it emulating a BBC Micro computer, so maybe it can by a pocket emulator with just a few components.....

If you want a pocket emulator get a 2 euro EPS32 and flash ESP_8_BIT on it. It wil give you a NES, Sega Master System, Atari 400/800, XEGS, and Atari emulator. You can controll it with a bluetooth controller. Only external part is a 10NF cap for the audio.

As the Raspberry Pi Pico is brand new, it is a bit early to say which kind of extension boards will be developed for it in the (near) future. But it can probably easily connect to existing affordable Zigbee extension boards.

I KNOW why they may have done this, look at how many raspberry pi industrial products are out there. They want to go after the micro-controller market like the m-bed, that is why the canstalations.

Exactly. Plus the low cost makes this a cheap enough plug in module for low volume production runs. But it's unlikely to unseat the STM32s and such in highly integrated/optimized products though.
