Thank you for the images and explanations. I have a very old raspberry patch, though no trellising because we have the space. We just mow between the rows. The canes stand up themselves, and it's easier to get to the old canes and weeds.

Love the chop & drop advice! What to do with live brown canes that are too tall ? Just prune to an acceptable height ?

You can definitely prune them to an acceptable height. I do that as well and I've never had any issues. Happy gardening :)

Thank you for the video! Do you have a vid where you show how you trellis your raspberries? I like how they look, they can be contained better. I bought a raspberry cane in spring, it was sad, now I have 5 talk canes Falling over (the stick I provided wasn't enough support) so yesterday I noticed they are growing roots from the tips that are touching the ground 😂 So I'm thinking about pruning now. I'm in Illinois zone 5b

I came here to learn how to prune an overgrown bed of raspberries. Thank you for this tutorial. I really had no idea how to go about tackling this project. I have a question about the wood used for the supports. Did you use pressure treated wood? Regular wood won't last but pressure treated has the chemicals. What should be used?

What type or raspberries do you have? It doesn’t seem they have too many thorns. Are they ever bearing, fall bearing or summer bearing?

Had a raspberry for five years and it still only has three or four canes. What am I doing wrong? I though about bending the canes to produce root growth but unsure whether or not it will work. i get around 15 raspberries each year and i want 150.

Very timely for me up here in MN. Once the snow melts, I'm getting out the shears. I hope you don't mind an slightly unrelated question, but we have a blueberry bush on the property that is quite old. We only get berries every couple of years from it, but a lot of times I think the deer beat us to them LOL. I want to move it into the fence if it's worth it to do so. Given it's age, it's likely going to be a bear to dig up and move. When do you think the best time to give it a try? Thanks! I really enjoy your videos.

Glad it's a timely video for you! As for your blueberries, you definitely DON'T want to do that now. The best time to transplant fruiting bushes in general is in the late fall/early winter. It may not look like it, but the plants are already waking up, and if you disrupt their roots now they'll suffer some nasty shock. Thanks for watching - happy gardening :)
