I found a reupload. In the shot before Manta Maria the inkling jumps from Kujira no senaka, a famous landmark in Yokohama over to a boat. In the trailer they admittedly jump in the opposite direction but in the background of the stage it then lines up with the ferris wheel that's close to the Nippon Maru. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2GVk6xvgrOWY7cfeature=shared

@@OlleMoquist as far as i knew for super blatant IRL references in stages, aside from lemuria hub, is Urchin underpass = jujo street in kyoto, and bluefin = hashima island. and then there's several other ones with looser irl inspirations or ones where its not clear how much specific reference was taken, such as inkopolis square= times square or barnacle & dime = Lalaport shopping center I think manta maria=kujira no senaka falls into the "blatant irl reference" category, did not know this! thank you for sharing.

funny kyoto station story: my friend and I moved to japan last year, but im mainland and she lives on an island a ways off. it blew my mind that the escalator rule which 99.99% of people follow in my prefecture and tokyo (stand on the left if you're riding the escaltor, walk on the right if youre walking up it) was REVERSED in west japan, so I wanted to point it out to my pal when we met back up in kyoto. its super silly! turns out- there are no escalators on her island, she had not been mainland much at all and NOBODY FOLLOWS ANY RULE AT ALL IN KYOTO STATION SPECIFICALLY!! so she was *baffled* when i tried to explain the east/west split, or the fact people very diligently maintain this rule at all "what elevator rule? ive never seen anyone line up that way, are you making that up?" HOMEGIRL HAS EXCLUSIVELY RIDDEN LAWLESS ESCALATORS DUE TO KYOTO STATIOOON!!!
@rassicas3 ай бұрын
ok good to know im not crazy for thinking kyoto is inconsistent with the escalator rule, i just end up doing whatever the people in front of me are doing LOL. probably because of the sheer number of osaka commuters and tourists, nobody knows what's correct. I think its specifically in Osaka where the escalator rule is flipped. i heard this is something that started for the world expo in 1970 to make it less confusing for visitors... missing the point that the rest of the world doesn't have escalator rules LMAO

(0:03) That's understandable, also considering that the Splatoon series has one of the most immersive fictional worlds of any Nintendo game series I can think of! (0:56) You figuring out what the real-world inspiration was and actually going there in person reminded me of similar things being done by Bluey fans as that TV series turned out to take place in a fictionalised depiction of Brisbane (Australia). (1:37) ‘…so I'm gonna jump right in’ and proceeds to instead Super Jump right in. I see what you did there. 😆 (4:02) That reminded me of when I imagined someone mapping out relative locations of Splatoon stages and hubs based on visibility of other stages and/or hubs (e.g. Hagglefish Market being visible from Crableg Capital). (5:13) I somehow immediately recognised that as a spoof of the Takashimaya logo, particularly because I do remember that they have at least one location in Singapore, where I live. (6:03) That was one of the first things I recognised, being familiar with them from seeing them at MRT stations and a number of other locations across Singapore. On a side note, even though I can see, I'd often walk on such pavements to keep myself walking straight if I were to lose focus. (7:57) I also imagined that the signs would read something along the lines of parts of the station being closed for ink battles during off-peak periods or something like that. (11:28) I remember seeing a news clip about the campaign (even though I don't speak Japanese, but ran the webpages and KZbin comments through Google Translate to get a rough idea of what was being mentioned), and I found it interesting that the honourary station master Inkling had a Splatoon 2 ink battle ink tank, but it was probably because there weren't any Splatoon 3 Inkling costumes available to use.

You know, I see the issues people have with most of the stages in Splat 3 conceptually. How it doesn't feel like a part of the world like they used to. I mean, what's Rom En even? You have an actual restaurant and a play area in the middle. What's it for? Just to Kite ink teens away from the rest of the establishment? Either way I think of Lumeria similarly but I have a new found appreciation seeing all the detail that is put into these stages never the less.
@rassicas3 ай бұрын
oh yeah i totally get that. i like stages that feel more built into the world, like camp triggerfish, blackbelly skatepark, or flounder heights. lemuria hub definitely falls into the trap of "abstract thing and then cool things in the background" splatoon 1 stages had an atmosphere of "this is a real place that kids arent supposed to be playing but theyre being a disruption and doing it anyway", but over time it feels like turf wars have gotten more and more corporate, to the point where businesses have started to make spaces specifically for turf wars to happen without it being a disruption.
