I saw the S&S patch on Hildos jacket and knew who would win. S&S makes cam shafts that drastically increase the torque of a Harley and that is what gets a bike off the line. I didn't get a good look but I think it also had an S&S carburetor. Hildo might have been saying 70 HP based on factory figures but I bet that engine was a torque monster. In the first race, I heard tires squealing. If the Honda had done that It probably would have done a wheelie as soon as the tire caught so we can be pretty sure it was Hildo ripping off some rubber with all that torque I mentioned. I thought sure we would see at least some front tire hopping from the Honda but no, so maybe Riki is not comfortable with that. Still, Hildo shot away really fast so I don't think a more experienced rider could have beat Hildo in that short distance. On an open road that Honda would have rocketed up the highway, but Hildo knows his limits and at least for this race, He owned it.

The twin makes most power and torque a low range rpm. The sport bikes make most torque around 5000-7000. The other rider had no idea on how to take off properly. It's a little more tricky on the sport bike because of the center of mass is forward, unlike the Chopper. Tat means less wheel spin, more grip on the low end rpm launch for the twin. However, a skilled rider would know the power ranges of his/her bike. There is no way that twin is faster. It's the rider!

Nice. Rats Rule!

I'm wondering why the sport bike wasn't pulling the front tire. It could be Ricky was not comfortable giving too much throttle at the start. To get a good launch he should have had the front tire at least a few inches off the ground. Still, it is hard to overcome the monster torque of a long stroke V-twin. Plus I saw the S&S patch on his jacket. It is highly likely the engine has S&S cam and carburetor.
