We are off to Manti Utah for the annual gathering of the tribes of the followers of the worlds best known (loved?) RAT. Rat Fink!! AND Utah's funnest CAR SHOW!
This year we are taking our newly restored 1967 "Fake Snake" Mustang "Blue". Over the past five years we have been restoring and dressing up our Big Bad Blue 428 "Shelby GT 500" with paint by Adam Pinales and Holley EFI "injection"
Rat Fink was the alter ego and side kick of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, who had an infamous paint shop in Los Angeles after the "Big War". Together with "The Barron" "Kelly" "Von Dutch" and an 8 year old kid, "Magoo" Ed and Co chopped, channeled, stripped, air brushed and flamed the great hot rods of the 50's and 60's. Later making "monster" tee shirts and plastic models, Ed became a legend. Gone now, his sprit lives on in the form of a pudgy bug eyed 3 foot tall rat!!

Oh yeah, Congrats on the award! That is really a good feeling to win like that. Last year I entered a drawing in a contest and initially, it didn't win. It was at the show for a week where much to my surprise after being viewed by people visiting the show voted it a people's choice award. That meant more to me than any monetary award they gave out. To me, it meant people looking at it took the time to really look at it. They took it in and viewed it as a piece of art.

I used to work for Sundance Film Festival. A guy entered a film and most of the judges hated it. And so it was rejected. But some loved it so got it in as a special screening thing. The film won nothing. As I say the judges hated it. But it won the audience award. One of the judges said the director couldn’t direct traffic. Anyway huge hit. Sex Lies and Videotape. (The director went on to win an academy award for a later film. He called it Traffic)

Your big daddy Roth reunions are always fun to watch. I remember Rat Fink from my childhood at about 8 to 9 years old. Then unknowingly talking with Big Daddy Roth at a Seattle car show many moons ago. If I remember right it was at the Seattle Autoroma, held at the Seattle Center.

For hell sake put on some Nice Clothes!! So at the next show he wore top hat and tales. Thats where that came from.

Nice job on this episode guys! I really enjoy all of the TMT and associated videos played during the week, etc., but I really like these probably due to the fact that you both have the connection back to this show a few years ago and that painted folding chair that you both 'discussed'. That was really quite amusing how much Dale wanted the chair... Anyhow, thanks again for sharing an insight into the way you both have cornered the market on screwing around!

Great video. I almost felt like I was there, if it wasn't for summer coming back to Los Angeles. Thanks for sharing. Seeing the Rat Fink logo reminded me of when I was a kid. I collected these stickers that came in a bubble gum pack. The stickers had some weird looking creature driving a crazy looking muscle car. I still have them only I'm out of town and can't look at them to see if they are Rat Fink or whom ever! I collected them thinking that some day they might be worth something. I've been waiting to find someone who would know. Could you help me out? I don't get home until late Monday, but I'll be shot till Tuesday. Thanks!

Sure! There were two main artists doing that. Ed was the original one. Hit on it by accident when he got pissed at a guy at a car show who no one liked. Obnoxious guy I guess. So he asked Ed to paint him and his ride on his club jacket so Ed drew him with huge eyes and bad teeth and flys buzzing around him. But the guy and everyone else loved it! So that is what everyone wanted. Then one day he said if he had drawn Mickey Mouse instead of that pussy Disney he would have looked like this.... anyway a bunch of guys started doing that and one guy called his Weird-ohs. And that took off and those stickers and models are around. I have all the models. I think we did a show on them. Not sure..... and a bunch of solid figures fir ideal toy. All weird-ohs. Those are the two main guys.
