Bindi putting the rat in the bucket is everything! Boss is an incredible mix too - you can see every breed in him at some point or another. the pitbulls powerful muscles, the greyhounds speed and the whippets quick on the spot turning. I'm always impressed some more by Leroy with each video. He's improving so fast. I mean that now, he even emulates Boss more and more by crunching on a rat once to finish it off quick and go onto the next because the critters are flooding them right and left. Leia and Gypsy and killing machines but they still tend to be obsessive over their catch and dead rats.

I mean most of the recent videos the camera man has had to stop Boss from full on swallowing rats at least once. Dogs are animals and even the best trained have impulses that get the best of them sometimes.

@@bluecollaroutlaws6281 Just the first day ratting on the farm, Leroy didn't know the ratting "etiquette" within a team and you could see how possessive he was of each rat he caught. That's the behavior I still see from Leia and Gypsy. Yet even in the second video, Leroy was learning fast where to position himself and letting go less reluctantly of the rats he killed at the command of a human. He was still a tad possessive of his kills for a few more videos. Now, he crunches then drops them, even without a human giving him the order, to go onto the next rat. That's the behavior we are used to, from Boss. Kill crunch, drop, next target, kill crunch, drop, etc.

Awesome video! It's great to see how this job progressed, over several days - and great job editing too: splitting it out into several short videos is the way to go. And it gives us fans more to look forward to. Kim should be so proud of Leeroy and how quickly he has caught on. Hopefully this experience will stay with him when they're back home and doing ratting jobs there. I know the property owner wasn't paying your team to pick up trash (that would have taken a whole additional crew!), but man that red circular saw blade in the shed (@16:50) was freaking.me.out - so worried that one of the dogs would get badly cut! You know your business & I don't doubt you, but if I'd been there for sure I would have pulled out that saw blade out and put it somewhere safer. Glad nothing bad happend!

@@george2113 I dont know how effective that will be. Ive seen rats in MinkMans videos under concrete slabs, under hay bales, under feeding stations, in dumpsters, climbing up wooden beams and sitting on beams under the ceiling in barns, in barns digging tunnels under the walls and supports and arriving with left over produce in dump trucks from grocery stores. Im not sure if you can remove your whole farm to disc and harrow the ground and then put your farm back on top of it lol You have to remember that you have to have an actual funtional farm as well haha you cant just remove everything.

I love how (lately?) you’ve always got to watch and make sure Boss doesn’t up and swallow one of his catches. You can almost hear that greyhound brain thinking, “What? I caught it, I just wanted a snack while I’m workin’.” I’m guessing he’s not allowed to eat them because 1) it would be a very bad habit once it got started and probably influence the other dogs too 2) takes away focus from the job at hand 3) potential illness for Boss. Am I correct that illness is a lesser concern than the formation of bad habits? Is there a risk of Boss getting sick from a farm rat?
@maggie2383
@maggie2383 Жыл бұрын
Him eating while working is a HUGE risk to his life. If he eats or has a full belly while running around and doing what he does on a job it could lead him to develop "bloat," or gastric dilatation-volvulus. It is when his stomach and intestines twist and it can only be fixed by immediate surgery. In a lot of the places we work we are a few to a couple hours away from hospitals and veterinarians. It is incredibly dangerous because we might not make it in time to correct it. Which is why we do not like them eating the rats!
@high-bi-password
@high-bi-password Жыл бұрын
Oh wow, I never even considered that it might cause bloat!!! I’m very familiar with bloat and how it works, you’re absolutely right. I just usually associate it with dogs drinking water too quickly. Thanks for the reply, Maggie! ❤️

It taking their focus away from the job at hand is probably the worst part. That would then spread to the other dogs. Also, it takes away from the body count at the end of the day.
@high-bi-password
@high-bi-password Жыл бұрын
@@The_Forge_Master thanks but Maggie, Joe’s wife, already explained that the primary concern is that Boss eating, while also exercising vigorously as he does on the job, could get a twisted stomach, i.e. bloat. Bloat is a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate and expensive surgery to correct. The farms where the dogs work aren’t exactly across the street from an animal hospital with the capabilities to handle that type of procedure, so it’s largely to prevent that from happening. Please do more research before you comment on subjects where you have little to no expertise. In reality this is a matter of life or death.

I hope the guys will clear out the debris: loose and broken planks, tires, rusty iron items and the rest. As long as those are there, the rats will use it as their hideout. Also, you can't use any square meters of ground or barn when it's covered in garbage. On the other hand, if the rats return, so will the Mink Man and the dogs.

Seeing how infested it is really made me think "wow, poison would have destroyed the soil with the amounts you would need, and any traps would take too long, the rats would just keep multiplying in the meantime!" Honestly, with such numbers, it really really requires a full on series of spitz attacks to lower the numbers drastically faster than they can multiple. Also, thought that shed needs to go, it's barely standing 🤣

So please remove your comments and leave them in the more general section rather than changing the direction of my original post. But then. Even in general section it wouldn't be much sense either since this isn't a video about how the rats came to get to those numbers, its about getting them down. So probably reverse your comments for when people actually request that information, for example "how did they get so many rats?" Which is thread is definitely not about. Little Gypsy is so ferocious and is like a spoiled child wanting to interfere with the other dogs and trying to take their catch from them it so funny to see and then to hear Joe scolding her but she is soon back to her old self she is totally focused on the job and is a pocket killing machine ❤

These dogs are amazing! I noticed they all seem to be different breeds, are there simply characteristics in dogs you look for or are these breeds just best for this?

Great work to everyone involved! Wanted to ask how long your typical stay on a site is, since you've uploaded quite a few videos from this farm. Do your jobs tend to last for weeks, months even, depending on how bad the infestations are? :]
