Rat in the roof happily eating poisoned bait! What happens next?

This rat (together no doubt with its entire family) have been living in our attic for several weeks. As you can see they are happy to feast on our poisoned bait which is just inches away from an Ultrasonic rat and mice repellent, in fact they seem to enjoy dining to the "music". Nothing seems to scare them for long - at the end I turn the infra red light off which startles it as I follow it across the insulation! I have an electronic noise maker (they don't even notice it) ordinary traps which they tiptoe over and an electronic trap baited with peanut butter - our rats don't like peanut butter. What else can we do? PLEASE subscribe to pay for more peanut butter!

We recently had rats in our garden. I didn't want to hurt them until one attacked my sons rabbit. So I left traps out. Eventually I got them all. As for humane traps...funny(ish) story. My sister caught some mice in humane traps. On one occasion she released one in a field. It started to run back towards the lane with cars going towards it. She moved in front of the mouse so it turned back towards the field. As it continued to run a bird (hawk?) flew down and grabbed it. True story.

As I have explained (if you bother to read the words) I have humane traps which they ignore, the bait does not kill them, and they live happily with me feeding them every other day! How on earth is this cruel? They keep us awake fighting and squabbling, continually dribble urine and bite which can in some circumstances kill! And oh yes, I would LOVE to have a video of a rat running across your floor (or even bed) and your reaction. Oh I bet you'd want the bu**ers dead then and p.d.q. or would you try to pick them up or wait for them to get into your clothes or food cupboard?

One correspondent says I should not kill rats nor release live rats into the areas occupied by other rats in case they fight. Can anyone be so stupid? The fleas on these self same rats caused the plague that killed almost a quarter of the population of London. Hey, come to think of it would that be so bad these days, just think who lives there now starting in the middle with all the BREXIT politicians...? :-)

Docile?! Have you actually heard them fighting - and always in the middle of the night? And what about the urine stain that follows them around everywhere they go? Some videos on here have rats almost bread to be shown dying, these rats gnawed their way into the house and then scampered up the cavity. Scratching around every window and door frame, I assure you it is not a pleasant experience. If I could scare them away I certainly would.

That’s so cruel. That poor creature would have then suffered and died a horrible death. The rats aren’t purposefully out to bother you or your family. They just want to live. They have a right to exist, just like every other sentient being. Use humane, live traps and more effective repellents instead of unnecessary killing and abuse. Poisoning rats unnecessarily is wrong. Put yourself in their paws. Would you like to suffer and die just for trying to live, breed and look after your family?

No one wants rodents running loose in their homes but it's usually humans who are doing something to allow them in in the first place, access points round their properties, leaving food around etc. In rat infested areas, it's often the people most responsible who complain the loudest and the most ferociously when their own habits are what caused the problem in the first place. The most dangerous species on the planet are undoubtedly human beings. Rats are not destroying the environment and the planet, but humans are. And as for disease, humans get more germs from other humans than they ever do from animals, people cough and sneeze anywhere without a thought to who else they might be infecting and as for AIDS, how does anyone think that is spread? They don't get that from any other animal apart from human ones.

Angelica Lee That’s not nice. You shouldn’t be mean or abusive. We don’t have rats inside that we know of, let alone our house being a sanctuary. You also shouldn’t be cruel or kill unnecessarily. Rats have a right to live/exist. They’re just being rats. They don’t necessarily mean any harm. Rats are misunderstood. They actually didn’t cause the plague (if I’m right), it was Asian gerbils. It probably wasn’t even the gerbils’ fault either, it was the fleas on them. Domesticated rats are also very clean by habits. They are also very intelligent. Also, whether domesticated or wild, rats can be very cute. Killing/hurting/harming rats unnecessarily is absolutely wrong. They probably have feelings. Please, please just think about all of that when you have a rat problem and would otherwise use lethal traps or poison. Please, please use more humane, non-lethal alternatives* instead. *Please be careful with the use of live traps, as you may release them into an area that is already inhabited by rats, and they may fight and get hurt and die. They are a walking petri dish of zoonotic diseases, which they spread primarily through their urine, which they are constantly, and I mean _constantly_ dribbling behind them as they go. They are almost always peeing. They carry a dozen internal parasites such as tapeworms that can infect humans, and our pets. They carry leptospirosis which can kill a child, or your cat or dog, with ease. And that's just scratching the surface of the diseases they transmit. As you can see, this gentleman tried every humane option available, with no results. Rats can cause hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage _to just one household_, let alone as an entire population across millions of homes. I know poison sucks, and should only be used in an isolated area and as an absolute last resort, but guess what, this was used in an isolated area, and as an absolute last resort. You don't have to like it, but then again, why did you seek this out and watch it i it offends you so much?
