It was only awhile after the Rat King boss that I realized how far away Abby was from anyone who could have helped her fight it. She's several floors down and I doubt anyone would go down there to look for her. And then I think "what if Lev waited and she just didn't come back?" If she died, how would he ever know? And then it made me think that probably happened to a lot of people in the world of The Last of Us. People would go on a mission and not return and you might never get that closure. That's one of the more haunting aspects of the game. If nobody sees you die or finds your body, nobody will ever know what happened to you.

When you play as Ellie earlier in the hospital going down the floors chasing Nora, the WLF soldiers wonder aloud about why the power is on down there. It's only a very small amount of time that separates Abby then Ellie being at the hospital. It's like they both descended into the depths of hell, one fought a monster to save a person, and one became a monster and killed a person.

Regarding your question at 15:25, I used to work in chemical warfare defense in the US military, and if it's an inhalation hazard, then as soon as you inhale the particles, you will be infected. That's why a sure fit on the mask is incredibly important to survival.
@batalorian79976 ай бұрын
When Abby pulled that mask off the dead guy, doesn't mean she exposed the mask to the spores? Which would mean that Lev would be breathing in spores?
@ericetodd6 ай бұрын
@batalorian7997 That's a good point. I'm not sure of in-game, but in real life, yes, the mask would have been contaminated and needed to be destroyed as it would be unusable. A lot of games gloss over this for gameplay reasons.
@batalorian79976 ай бұрын
@@ericetoddits little things like that I always think about. I guess bleaching the mask wouldn't work either
@Sturzfaktor25 ай бұрын
And not only the masks but your clothes and backpack would collect spores as well. From there they would dust off later, even when you've left the hazardous area. (Not to speak of highly contagious blood splatter on your clothes and skin from dealing with the infected.) I'd also guess that gasmasks don't have unlimited shelf-life. And in the real world, spores are not limited to enclosed spaces. But that's where the poetic license comes in. 😅

38:40 To do the nest in stealth I like to go left through the gap in the wall and silently take out the clickers with the crossbow. The wall stalker won't notice you if you stay prone. And the bloater can keep snoring while we silently sneak towards the elevator door. ;) The crazy strategy, however, is to run in full sprint through the hallway straight to the elevator door. Scary but works 100% of the time 60% of the time. 😅 The graphics in performance mode are virtually indistinguishable from the PS4 version. They were that good in the original. 😊 Fidelity mode is where the textures get more detailed, the drawing distance is increased, and a number of other things. Too choppy for me at 30 fps, but on a VRR monitor it might be playable.

In the first game, Joel tells Ellie that you need to find a purpose-and I think that, while the WLF provided Abby with a mission (training, support, tools, distraction), she really finds her purpose in Lev and Yara. I think it’s so telling that she has her first good night of sleep in years after helping them; that she returns to the hospital in her dreams and only sees her dad smiling at her; and she’s finally able to achieve some measure of peace through them. Thank you for another lovely episode!!

48:56 Looked it up and you're right, Cherami Leigh (female V's voice actor) did voice work for "WLF Militia" according to IMDb! So cool :) Thank you for noticing! If only you actually "put a lot of money on that fact" 🤑 49:52 technically...😇(would've made Ellie's job a whole lot easier) Sorry for time-stamping so much, but 54:08 as opposed to saying "May your death be swift", which is the default end-of-conversation exchange for the WLF, Abby says "May 'my' death be swift". As we know, Nora's death ended up not being as swift as she probably would have liked.

It does look like Chermi Leigh provided additional voice work on this, her V voice is unmistakable. I love the Rat king fight, it was one of the only infected sections that I found scary. I hope if we get part 3 they add a few more super infected boss battles to add more variety to the infected sections.

This part of the game feels very similar to the last of us part 1. Two strangers are bound by 'fate' and at first they don't really seem to understand each other. During their journey, Abby as the strong adult protects Lev from the scars, "seraphites", and the infecred and even risks her own life by going to search for a mask for Lev. Lev on the other hand provides Abby with tips to ease the mind. Their bonding therefore reminds me of the bonding between joel and ellie. The similarity between abby and joel is that they both have done terrible things in the past and taking care of a kid is their way to set things right for a bit. Why most of us have a completely different view on joel compared to abby. We haven't seen joel kill innocent people and therefore aren't able to judge him for it, while we have seen Abby killing joel in a terrible way. This is also why we can relate with ellie, because for her it is the same.

I gave up on the rat king, and had to Google how to kill it in my first playtrough 🙈 so hard! And so scary 😳 I like that it’s in the game, and I actually feel that it fits the story. Being that its ground zero, and they were the first infected. I do wonder how they survived down there for 24 years… 🤔
@Puffles446 ай бұрын
Thanks for the latest episode! My only guess for the boss fight is it shows how far she'll go to help Yara and Lev. She lied to her own community - she lied to Nora - and then fought this giant beast - all for two people she met a few days ago? It's a side of herself that maybe she's never known. Now it's not just about her survival - her compassion makes her want to help these strangers survive as well. Or maybe they DID just want to introduce a gnarly new bad guy to make that section even more intense? Either way, good god that thing is extra horrifying.

fun fact, I am one of the people who are experiencing this game for the first time. I understand that the boss feels a bit off for this genere, but I think its a cool way to showcase the next "stage" the corruption can reach when left unchecked. The way it mutates into something that looks unintentional in its own biology, like it could fall apart at any moment.

love this perspective from someone new to the franchise! I do agree with you, the mutations left unattended get WILD and this shows that

I prefer Ellie as a character, but damn. I've always thought Abby had the coolest action scenes in the game. The climb with Lev is incredible, she fights the freaking Rat King, the whole sequence on the island on fire is spectacular. After I finished the game, I tried another game and couldn't get into it because I was too obsessed with TLOU2, so I replayed it, and I was actually surprised to realize I was waiting to be able to play Abby again. Playing as Ellie is of course always great, but her 3 days in Seattle almost seem dull compared to Abby's days 🤣 Maybe the devs knew people would like her less or would be disappointed to not play Ellie as much so they gave her some of the best action scenes? I don't know. Also, I'm so furious Abby went through all that on day 2 pretty much for nothing given what happened the following day 😅 Why Naughty Dog, whyyyy!
@annardemetriou6 ай бұрын
Yes, I said this too on another one of my videos! I’m pretty sure some of the Abby sequences had added/fun bits that Ellie didn’t have because of the resentment they assumed the player would have!
