The lore of this universe is very rich. You see the cats are an intergalactic race who travel the universe, fusing with the DNA of native races in order to conquer them. The dogs are an ancient earth civilization whom know everything about the cats and have been working for millennia to stop them. The cats have also worked their way into the human government, posing as the 'Cat Police' a task force dedicated to finding and eliminating those who oppose the cats or finding items the cats are interested in.

In other words, the first film's Earth was destroyed, and the second film takes place in a different universe. Finally, however, the final scene confirms that all of this is taking place in a film franchise which covers multiple universes, similar to how the MCU is operating these days. Rat Movie 2: The Movie is a worthy sequel to its famous predecessor, Rat Movie: Mystery of the Mayan Treasure. The Rats, the surprise and lovable villains of the first film are back, having become cult icons from their antics in the first movie. With a strong opening of the Rats not enjoying their new lives of fame and wealth, the well known leader, Giant Rat Junior is roped into a battle of intergalactic proportions. While the story has much bigger focus and the characters and fleshed out much more, the first Rat Movie is the superior film, with snappier dialogue and better jokes. And while the CGI has increased greatly since the first movie, the first's effects had a timeless look and feel to them. But those complaints aside, Rat Movie 2: The Movie is clearly worth your money and time. 8/10.

I, for one, can truly appreciate the post-humanitarian mathematics that Dick Dastardly and Hat Guy represent, while in contrast you have the Purple-morality of the Rat King. As much as I love the whole rat redemption arc of Rat Movie 2, I think a prequel with Geralt as the main character would have been better. Or perhaps a short side-series focused on Dick's early years and the tragic events that molded him into the dastardly knave we all know and fear. Or perhaps a lore heavy film/novel in the style of the Silmarillion on how the universe of Rat Movie came to be.
