This is my favorite Pixar movie. I'm glad that you're giving it a try. 9:02 -- fun fact: rats do not have a gag reflex. With that said, the soup that Linguini accidentally made was so bad, it made Remy gag. THAT is how bad it was.

You know how you have those films that you pick up on the days when you're feeling miserable? Angry or sad or sick? And putting them on means that by the end of them, you are no longer in a bad mood? Comfort films? This is in my top five favorite comfort films of all times. When I feel like absolute garbage, I put this on and it's an instant mood lifter. I've seen it so many times and I still cry. I cried even just watching it in pieces here. I'm SO glad you enjoyed it, it made my whole day. :)

My comfort film is princess and the frog! When I suffered from cyclic vomiting syndrome I just binged a bunch of disney movie’s. Honestly, those are the best for me to watch when I’m sick just because the songs keep me feelin upbeat. So, I definitely get what you mean. 🙂

9:00 Rats are physically incapable of vomiting but the mere smell of the soup made Remy gag. This means Linguini is such a bad cook that the soup defied the laws of nature. 😂😂😂

I have an anecdote about old people and guns in France haha. So I grew up in French countryside and we used to go berry picking with my family to make ice cream and jam and stuff like that. One day we were on private property while foraging and some old person just got their rifle out and started shooting at our feet for us to scatter. I used to tell this story and laugh about it and now I realize it was maybe a bit extreme for two children picking berries from a hedge haha

For years I'd viewed Ratatouille as being one of Pixar's more middling films, but having rewatched it a few months ago, it's become one of my absolute favourites. It's so gorgeously animated - that first establishing shot of the Paris skyline is just breath-taking - and features one of my favourite Michael Giacchino Pixar scores (it's either this one or Up for me). The script manages to be really mature and grounded, giving the characters plenty of time to breath and become more developed, while also managing to have plenty of really funny moments too. And I adore the whole message of the film, that it doesn't matter where you come from, anyone is capable of following their dreams and becoming a great artist. A few extra points to mention: - Yes, the rat trap shop is a real shop in Paris. - You obviously saw about Ian Holm, but there's plenty of other famous voice actors in this one. Patton Oswalt voices Remy, Janeane Garofalo voices Collette, Ego is Peter O'Toole, Horst (the German sous chef) is Will Arnett, and John Ratzenberger makes his typical Pixar cameo as the voice of the Maître d'. Oh, and Linguini is voiced by the same actor who voices Dash's teacher in The Incredibles (you know, the "Coincidence? I think NOT!" guy). - Ego's whole character arc in this film is wonderful, and I love the fact that he was just cynical and frustrated by how modern cuisine couldn't match his high standards, and all it took to revitalise his passion and love of food was something as simple as a ratatouille - just like his mother made (also nice little animation detail, notice how Ego has a lot more colour in his face during the final scene; rekindling his love of food results in him becoming happier and healthier).

For the longest time this was my favorite Pixar film, until it was nudged out just a bit by "Coco." It still remains a beautiful top tier favorite among movies. I've always felt that for anyone with a creative mind, "Ratatouille" just reaches you on a whole different level. Also, yes if we don't like something we don't swallow. That's just simple self-explanatory logic at its finest there.

Actually, there's a " Ratatouille " attraction at Disneyland Paris build not too long after the movie came out. If you didn't understand why Colette called ratatouille " a peasant dish ", it's because it's not a gastronomic dish so normally there's no chance to eat that in a restaurant like Gusteau's. About Colette, I think she's a perfect example of how it's hard for us women to work in " men jobs " without a lot of temper. In the french version, she's voiced by Camille, the singer of " Le Festin " (the song we heard after Liguini learns he's Gusteau's son)

The best response to critics everywhere is Teddy Roosevelt's The Man in the Arena Speech. "It is not the critic who counts. It's not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled. Credit belongs to the man who really was in the arena, his face marred by dust, sweat, and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs to come short and short again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming. It is the man who actually strives to do the deeds, who knows the great enthusiasm and knows the great devotion, who spends himself on a worthy case, who at best, knows in the end the triumph of great achievement. And, who at worst, if he fails, at leasts fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and cruel souls who know neither victory nor defeat."

I vaguely remember an Australian paper gave this film a low rating in contrast to other Pixar films [I think this was of an era close to Cars], and when I saw it on a plane for the first time, I didn't understand why. The inventiveness of the dynamic between Linguni and Remi, and the appealing cuisine was entertaining. Nice to see it represented in Kingdom Hearts 3 also.

I can only say that Ratatouille is the only film i've analyzed that has no actual hero but mostly villains. Each character has a vain personality. Maybe it's cause its all French
