Ego says he doesn’t swallow if he doesn’t love his food. Throughout the movie, he has a very thin look. At the end of the film in the new restaurant, you can see that his face is less pale and more full since he has been eating Remy’s food. Just a little detail I loved

The thing they all love the most is how accuracy of the kitchen itself, how it’s a truly French design. Also the speech at the end about critics is absolutely perfect. It’s actually what motivates me to one day be a movie, tv and video game critic.

The entire final act is just perfection, Ego's speech has got me every single time I've watched it, and when set to Giacchino's beautiful score it's pure movie magic. This one has really climbed up my Pixar rankings in recent years and now it's one of my absolute favourites, Brad Bird (who also did The Incredibles) really is the GOAT

It's likely that the movie ended up the way it did because the creators suddenly lost script-writing time that they thought they had and were forced to get *something* done in time for the rest of the production process and the release of the film.

I loved the late Peter O'Toole's voice as Anton Ego. Speaking of which, you absolutely cannot miss his performance in his breakout film LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962), one of the greatest lead acting performances of all time IMO.

I remember the first time I tried a piece of cheese with a grape, I immediately thought of this movie. I used to be an extremely picky eater but I started actively trying foods I “didn’t like” prepared in different ways, being open-minded about how flavors change when they’re combined with others, trying charcuterie boards, etc. I love food now in such a way I never thought I could. I appreciate what this movie can do for people of all ages when it comes to our relationship with food.

Brad Bird is one of the universe's great gifts to animation. He was also responsible for "The Iron Giant" and "The Incredibles". Before feature films he directed early episodes of "The Simpsons", and before that he helped Tim Burton put together a short called "Family Dog" for a TV anthology produced by Steven Spielberg. I am increasingly impatient for Bird to create something original and animated again.

A fun fan theory about the movie. The kitchen and egos flashback is the same or very similar to the kitchen of the old woman in the start of the movie. The theory is is that Remi knows how to make the ratatouille so well because he lived in egos mother’s attic, and learned to cook it from watching her.

I have a huge rat phobia. If I see so much as a rat or a mouse from afar, I run in the opposite direction. However, this is the film that made me appreciate what I taste. Thanks to Remy, I like to combine flavors for a tasty rhythm. Two things that were important to me growing up were my mom’s home-cooked meals and Pixar. I would eat whatever my mom would make for us. I always appreciated whatever she cooked, but seeing Anton flash back to his youth gave me an even greater appreciation for her cooking. Now as an adult, I’m surprised by who voices Remy because I’ve gotten familiar with big-time actors and comedians alike in the present. Now I can pretty much say that Patton Oswalt is always a win.

I find it funny that no one ever mentions that the main dude's name is Linguine Alfredo backwards. Also, fun facts: The character of Gusteau was based on Bernard Loiseau, a french chef who had 3 Michelin Stars and took his own life over rumors that he might lose them at the time. Pixar hired Thomas Keller as a consultant to get the dishes look like actual fine dining dishes. Actually, the Ratatouille presentation is his own. This is one of my favorite animated movies ever. The attention to detail was fantastic.

In this movie, Pixar recalls a famous literary episode by one of France’s greatest authors, Marcel Proust. Proust (1871-1922) wrote about the nature of memory in A la Researches des temps perdues. Suddenly, the taste of a classic coffee cake, a madeleine, brings out a powerful memory of a past moment (des temps perdues), a memory of childhood. Ego’s experience with the ratatouille is an homage to that famous literary moment. Great writing by the people at Pixar. It really sets this film apart.

This is very true. The French get a bad rep for being unfriendly and standoffish, but my experience has always been that they are super friendly and welcoming as long as you make an effort to relate to them. If you try to speak French, they will try to speak English when they realize your French isn't great. Or they will try to communicate through hands and feet 😂 and speaking French loudly, as if that changes anything. But they'll try!

Thanks for reacting to this one Natalie! I love this movie so much. After my wife and I took our daughter to see this when it was out in theaters, I told my parents to go see it. My dad was very skeptical because it was an animated "kids movie". I told him it was not only a great kids movie - it was just a great movie no matter how old the audience. So my mom and dad went to watch and told me afterwards that it was fantastic. They both loved it! One of Pixar's very best films.

The Incredibles is my all-time favorite Pixar movie, but this one is a *really* close second. It hits pretty much every note it needs to, and it hits them well. Ego's flashback and review are some of the best individual moments in Pixar history, and honestly the script is one of the more underrated ones in terms of a comedy perspective - pretty much every single kitchen scene is downright hysterical.

That's one thing that I don't understand, people have the tendency to associate animation with children, which is not the case most of the time, some animations are incredibly dark and not really appropriated for kids lol

Still one of Pixar's best movies to date - if not the best overall. Ego's trip to his childhood always hits me hard.

Fun fact! The old woman at the beginning of the movie and house that Remy starts out in at the beginning of the movie is Ego's mom and childhood home! Remy honed his skills as a cook where Anton Ego honed his love for food

If you notice, the house he's transported back to is the one in the beginning. Meaning the old lady was likely Ego's mother... that means Remy likely learned to cook by watching Ego's mother cook

My favourite Pixar movie. As an animator myself in film, I absolutely love the animation here, it's absolutely beautiful. That bit where Anton is transported back to a childhood memory never fails to make me tear up, I don't know why.

4:00 That whole beginning spiel, I can speak from MY personal experience in Paris, they (Parisians/French ppl, in gen) are wonderfully nice & helpful! Over 20 years ago, me & my bestie did a Eurotrip & went to Paris. Everyone else was telling us "Oh, the French, they hate Americans. They especially hate it if you don't speak French" etc. So it got me super anxious...I took French classes (on my own), but long story short, all that goes out the window in emergency situations 😅! We got lost a few times & needed help finding our way back to our hotel. Everyone was helpful & willing to get us back on track. The emergency situation was a shuttle service NOT picking us up for our flight in the morning & basically NOT telling us they decided not to get us. We got someone to call the business for us -- he actually offered bc he said the conversation would go faster in French -- & figured out quickly we kinda got scammed. He gave us directions to catch the trains to the airport AND gave us fresh croissants for breakfast & as an "apology" for the shuttle service, even tho HE saved the day & had nothing to do w/it. Outside of mainland France, I've spent many months in French Polynesia 🇵🇫 & they too are incredible! Tho I will say that's probably more to do w/ my Polynesian connection (being from Hawaiʻi) & Tahitians. ^^all that to say, TRYING to speak their language & atleast being genuinely interested/loving their culture goes a long way...no matter the country/people.

In my graduate studies at Clemson I had a professor of history who was in particular a Francophile. We were studying a work by Marcel Proust in which there is a sudden transport back to childhood upon tasting a food. I instantly knew that was what was being referenced in this film and thought it was a wonderful connection. I subsequently let me professor know about the movie, which he at first thought wouldn't be serious since it is an animated film, but the irony to me is that he enjoyed the film, therefore making him, the food critic, and Proust all connected in the same return to childhood type of way!

As always, a beautiful reaction, Nat. One of the things I love about Pixar is that the films always work for both the kids and the adults watching it. There is always more depth, and depth behind the depth, in these funny, well-told stories. When we were last at Walt Disney World, we ate at the restaurant in the France pavilion at Epcot Center. At the end of the meal, they brought out a little tray on which the chef -- Remi, of course -- stood and accepted our praise (bowing).
