This is one of the first times people really noticed Pitt eats a lot in roles, because it's actually a character trait here (because he made it one, the crafty dude). Pitt figured Rustys nature has him constantly on the go, so he never has time to sit around for a meal and eats whenever he can.

The cast said they had so much fun filming this. It was almost like summer camp. Because the cast was huge, they had time to hang out when they weren't on set. That sense of comraderie really comes through.

With how tight the lines are, it seems likely the script was ready ahead of time, so could be comfortable the story was solid during filming. Which a surprising amount of films that is still in flux at the time of starting, have rewrites midway, had studio interference on plot, or even reshoots after early edits. So probably lowers actors expectations will pan out while working on something different than you signed up for, or had low expectations when doing it for a paycheck.

Fascinating film series. They sort of came and went. Each one. And they’re such pop culture candy - the stars were all in or entering their prime in part 1. And that evolves as the stars escalate in their own careers in real life, their parts in the films evolve along with them. Clooney & Pitt are so epically cool…

This movie is a wonderful homage to the 1960 original. If you've seen the original, there are certain things in this film that are mapped over from the original. How both movies end (which are completely different) is a really neat insight on how crime and sins were treated in the late 50s/early 60s (which is why 1960's The Apartment was so different for its time) compared to 2001.
@christopherconard2831
@christopherconard2831 Жыл бұрын
The original was made while the Hays Code was still enforced. One of the rules was that criminals could not, in the end, profit from their crimes. So despite being the protagonists of the film they were never going to win. You could make films that broke the Hays rules, and a lot were done. But the bigger distributors wouldn't work with any film that didn't have their approval.

Ocean's 11 is brilliant. Ocean's 12 was a bit so-so for me. Ocean's 13 shows found family and 'you fuck with them, you fuck with us' mentality more than the fast and the furious (or so I understand from the vin diesel memes) and I LIVE for it. An awesome film choice! By the way, not sure if anybody pointed this out to you Nat, but this film was released as an immediate follow up to the film’s director’s (Steven Soderbergh’s) historic Oscar win. Steven Soderbergh was the first (and to date only) person in Oscars history to receive 2 Best Director nominations for 2 different films in the same year (ERIN BROCKOVICH (2000) and TRAFFIC (2000)) and win for one of them (TRAFFIC). Memorable acceptance speech too.

It's funny what people remember 20 years later. Steven Soderbergh directed "Erin Brokovich," about corporate corruption, followed by "Traffic," perhaps the best film about the war on drugs ever made, and produced "Syriana," perhaps the best film about oil ever made. He admitted that "Ocean's 11" was originally just a lark, but it's the one that people remember today.

Part of Soderbergh’s brilliance is the ability to stage a scene without _needing_ the typical Hollywood control. He uses imperfect lighting to his advantage like few directors can. Yes, his DOP is doing their work, too, but Soderbergh has proven it’s his knack for on-the-go run-and-gun framing that remains consistent throughout his career. The production value of his films comes in part from how he’s able to save money where most people spend it, and put it into everything else (actors, locations, etc). All his awards are richly deserved. I say this as someone who has never worked with him. However, people I trust have given me the inside baseball scoop about his work methods, while he was shooting GFX here in Toronto. Though produced (not directed), his influence was clear. His method of lighting design in to sculpt from what’s there, as opposed to fabricating. He’s a mad genius.
@axr7149
@axr7149 Жыл бұрын
Soderbergh was his own DOP for this film too! He does cinematography (and editing nowadays too) using his parents' names as pseudonyms. He uses his mother's name for editing and his dad's name for cinematography. Since TRAFFIC, he has been the DOP for all the films he directed.

I watched this in the theaters years ago, and it's become one of my go-to movies to have on in the background whenever I'm working on something. There are so many little details and bits of foreshadowing that you'll only notice on a rewatch. The cinematography is excellent as well. I used to have the CD soundtrack playing during my college commutes. Every time I've visited Las Vegas, I've always stopped by the Bellagio. I don't even gamble, but it really is a beautiful place. The DVD version has a great director's commentary track, and there are all kinds of interesting details. Don Cheadle is uncredited due to a disagreement over billing; he wanted either to be among the above title billings, or none at all. He got the latter. Brad Pit was constantly snacking in between takes, so it eventually became part of Rusty's character. Hence why he's always eating. He ate 40 shrimp just for the Tess intro scene due to how many takes it took. The producer was friends with the owner of the Bellagio, which is why they were allowed to film and stay there. The ending group scene at the fountain was the last scene they filmed, and was mostly improvised; the instructions were for Brad Pitt to leave first, and for Carl Reiner to leave last. The others just walked away when it felt natural. In fact, the fountain scene only came about when the director couldn't figure out how to get the group to separate after the heist, and just happened to be leaning on the fountain railing as he was thinking. There are plenty of other aspects worth looking into.

Couple things: (01.) "Ocean's Eleven" is actually a second collaboration between George Clooney and director Steven Soderbergh. Their first was a 1998 film called "Out of Sight", which adapted Elmore Leonard's book of the same name. If you enjoyed George Clooney as Danny Ocean, it's probably worth your time to give that one a shot. (02.) "Out of Sight" would also make an interesting double feature with Quinton Tarantino's 1997 film "Jackie Brown" as the two films are vaguely connected. Elmore Leonard wrote both "Out of Sight" and "Rum Punch" (the novel from which "Jackie Brown" is adapted) and would often have characters introduced in one book appear as supporting players in other books, a tradition the two films try to invoke.

I'm so glad you enjoyed Ocean's 11!! The original trilogy is one I really hold close to my heart (though 8 is awesome too! Hoping they eventually continue it). I highly recommend checking out Ocean's 12 and 13 too, there's something about growing more attached to these characters movie after movie... the nostalgia factor definitely does play a role. This entire trilogy is just so enjoyable. The amount of quotable moments is incredible.

I had no idea you were also an actor, until you mentioned it & then i had to look up your filmography. It's fun to watch your reactions to scenes as an insider of the industry.

I assume by the end, it became obvious that Danny *wanted* Tess and Terry to see him, and that him being "red flagged" in the casino was intentional, as well. Danny basically set himself up as a diversion - Benedict was focused on him the whole time.

The mormon twins are played by rather mid-tier actors, but their pedigree is huge. Curly is Casey Affleck, ben Afflecks brother, while mr. slick muscles is Scott Caan, James Caan's son. James ironically played a casino owner in the show "Las Vegas"

Sandra Bullock is in "Ocean's 8", and I hope, I *HOPE* you watch it, because so few reactors on KZbin ever actually react to it. It's one of the best in the franchise.

13:35 Highs AND Lows are INEVITABLE, no matter who you are with. some of the best friends I've ever had in my life, we started out disliking or even hating each other, until one day we both finally figured each other out and came to respect one another (usually via some sort of confrontation). That doesn't mean extreme lows are ok, but that some lows are inevitable, and can actually strengthen a relationship over time if handled properly.

Many years ago I was in a casino in the Bahamas when the power went out. There was no chaos and nobody started scrambling for chips. The dealers kept order and a pit boss came around with a flashlight. The hand on the table was played out and then the entire table was covered with a huge plexiglass dome-like thing. The pit boss went from table to table and slowly everyone left.
