When David Bergeaud left, the series also lost a part of it’s soul. He is 50% of the reason why I love the PS2 era of the R&C games. His orchestral style was so unique and even to this day… it’s some of the best composed music I’ve ever heard in a video game franchise. ‘Maktar Nebula’ from Going Commando is a perfect example of what he does best: Mixing a hip-hop/funk beat with some orchestral, ambient samples. What a genius.

The first 2 games soundtracks were my faves! Such a unique sound! I wish the new games stopped with this theatrical score thing and give us something to tap our toes to. I feel like into the nexus got the closest with a few spooky synths songs.
@bigbadgammagnome Жыл бұрын
He composed for some of the PS3 era too. Only some tho (I think just tools of destruction??). His music was absolutely the best, and some of his tracks in R&C1 are up there in my favourite video game music of all time. The 2016 remake has the most soulless music in the whole franchise. (Rift Apart at least had a couple good tracks, with Emperor Nefarious' theme standing out as one of the only good tracks in the game, to the point of it being really memorable for me amidst all the bland music) And I only played these games recently so I have no blind nostalgia for them, just pure admiration for his talent.

i tried to play the new ones and I just was.....so disappointed. The music during this era was just absolutely amazing. I remember coming home from school and listening to this on repeat as I am playing the game because it was just so unique and interesting. Imo it went worsening. It was great in the first and then kept getting worse and more bland, with just a few exceptions for me in every game. Idk if it's because I'm used to listen to Nintendo soundtracks that are top quality, but they really just went bland after the first, and then with PS3 they started to get into this cinematic kinda style that is so bland for a videogame and tells me nothing, it got the worst with the remake. The PS5 game seems like keeping with this kinda ambience sounds that idk if it's even music, we'll see, however i still loved a bunch of tracks in Crack in time

Deadlocked is the most underated of all in my opinion. My favorite out of the original four. Why people dislike it compared to the rest is beyond me. It took the more combat centric approach of Up Your Arsenal and refined it, made it so much more fun. Had a completely original Seriously banging techno-rock soundtrack that didn't reuse any music from the previous games like UYA did... And was overall just so much more compelling than the third one was. Up Your Arsenal is a really fun game... But i think it's just ridiculous to put 3 above 4 when 4 corrected so much of 3's mistakes. Edit: Going Commando is a close second favorite though. I feel like UYA would've been better if they kept the platforming/exploration side of things that Going Commando had. But then again, without UYA's combat focus we wouldn't have Deadlocked.

But the songs that say something different are pretty good.
@ebtrax40816 ай бұрын
@@maestrofeli4259 Yeah i can kind of agree, I think the fact that Beurguead had to do the ost for that, resistance, qfb, sm and sac all in the space of a couple years probably effected the quality of the tracks somewhat, and while they do have that notable ratchet aesthetic, they feel like they've lost some of the essence of what made early ratchet music so great. No wonder he quit after that, he must've been exhausted. Still I think tools has a good soundtrack overall, and I think we can both agree that it's still a lot better than the osts from A4O onwards, no disrespect to Micheal Bross but I feel like he really doesn't understand the "feel" of ratchet.

I agree to a large extent. Apart from the first track it was very hard to find any music that slowed things down without it eventually escalating into something louder. A lot of these start really mellow but progressively get more bombastic and that's just David's style. In retrospect, it probably would've been a good idea to include some music from A Crack in Time, which does much better at keeping its calm tracks calm. But at the same time, I did want to keep this exclusive to David's soundtracks for consistency's sake. It is what it is.
