Hey guys, i hope you all enjoyed this run. I am currently lying in the hotel bed writing this, and tomorrow is going to be the day i leave this AGDQ to return to Denmark. It was a great event, everyone was very supportive on twitter, discord and even the reddit AMA post did great! If you got any questions to ask, feel free to go to my twitch page and ask away. You can also check out my youtube channel for general speedrun and gaming content :) You're all great, have a great rest of your day. (Edit, wow I posted the same comment 3 times because of the GDQ hotel wifi being so laggy

Ricky switches up his games and plays whatever makes him passionate. He dominates every game he tries, and his commentary is spot on 10 times out of 10. If he were to play one of the massively popular games like Mario 64 and only streamed that one game he would become one of the biggest things in speedrunning. Mad respect, he sticks to his guns and enjoys the (still rather sizable) audience that he has. So pumped for his Jak 3 run at AGDQ 2019.

This is a statement regarding comments about Inbounds/no OoB/Glitchless runs of the Ratchet and Clank games. As a quick answer, no one in the Ratchet and Clank community as of right now would not be willing to route/run any of the above mentioned categories for the simple fact that it would not be fun. The fun in these games comes from the insane movement tech and skips done throughout the game (shown wonderfully in rac1 Any% and any of the Original Trilogy NG+ categories). With this fact in mind, there are plenty of games that don't have as much of skipping as rac1 NG+, Size Matters Any% only has a few OoB/planet skipping glitches, Secret Agent Clank is basically casual due to the lack of movement tech, rac2 Any% is like a faster version of casual with a bit of planet skipping and OoB, and there are always the Special Bolt categories (All Gold Bolts for Rac1/many of the future games, All Platinum bolts for rac2, and all Titanium bolts for rac3/sm and sac) which show a lot more of the game while going at insane speeds. If anyone who would want to run Glitchless or Inbounds, feel free to join the Ratchet and Clank speedrunning discord to at least have a place of communications for going as fast within the limits set by the runners. This does not mean it will end up on the Leaderboards, but if you really want to run this game without the amazing skips, by all means give it your best shot and it may be added to our new Category Extensions board on Speedrun.com. I hope this answers all further questions regarding this category, now, lets all appreciate how well ThaRixer did during this run!!! For a marathon run, he was only a little over ONE MINUTE behind world record, which is insane for a category this optimized in a no-reset setting!!

Nothing against using exploits, but it´s quite daft to say that a game isn´t fun if you play it glitchless.
@tempusername13613 жыл бұрын
@@prince-solomon I know my comment is 3 years old at this point and I've been retired since 2018, but I can provide an explanation why i commented what I did. At the time, and to this day, the overwhelming consensus in the Ratchet community is that glitchless categories aren't the most interesting. Now, this doesn't apply to all games, some games have a wonderful glitchless community like Mirrors Edge and various other 2d platformers. Just in the Ratchet and Clank series, the glitchless categories have been tried and tested, and really the most amount of players they had at one time was like, 3 people in late 2018, early 2019. It was most prevalent in RaC2, where NG+ Glitchless was the premiere glitchless category, and it was basically just buffered long jumps, the category. Theres a niche for everyone, and I won't say that literally everyone on the face of the Earth hates glitchless ratchet and clank, but as a community, it's a very safe bet to say that theres little to no traction for all glitchless based runs for the games. Those who say they'd be interested in running glitchless have to go through the arbitrary hell of defining what is a glitch and what to remove from a certain run, then actually run the route, which is something most new players don't even do with regular runs. You have no idea how many times i've seen someone ping for a runner role in the discord and then never see a run uploaded to srcom or see them talk after the first week they're there. So you'd have to have a very ambitious new runner or have a movement in the games' community to get a route and a set of runs done. If you want more opinions on glitchless, I would suggest talking to Mantodea or FeaR_SR on discord, twitch, or twitter and just tell them that Weez sent ya from Ricky's GDQ run comment section!

damn this dude is legit, he keeps twitching and doing stretches
@ThaRixer6 жыл бұрын
sexywednesday funny you say that, the reason i did it is because i need warm hands. The game is quite technical and requires fast inputs, which is harder with cold hands. The twist was, my hands were perfectly fine until i had to go to the bathroom right before my run. When i washed my hands the hotel only had ice cold water for the whole day, so i was trying very fucking hard to keep the blood pressure flowing. ^^ Also hand stretches are quite healthy! They prevent future wrist injuries.

Great run Ricky, and great commentary by the couch. A joy to behold. To address some of the people in the comments who are asking for glitchless runs: Defining a "glitch" in this game is incredibly arbitrary, or in any game for that matter. Better to call them exploits. That said, if people were to do no out of bounds, we'd still use movement exploits, but what about areas where the game doesn't even stop you from going out of bounds? If we didn't use movement exploits, we'd still go out of bounds, and I will happily debate you if you want to try to tell me what is a movement exploit and what isn't. If you want to see an "exploitless" run of the game, you're better off looking for a well-done let's play, or to do it yourself, as nobody is stopping you. But I can guarantee that virtually all of the Ratchet runners wouldn't run "exploitless", and here's why: It's not fun. Most people run these games, and games in general, because they already did that. They already beat the game 100% multiple times, they already tried to beat the game as fast as possible, they already tried to challenge themselves, so they come looking for another challenge that isn't the casual experience. Ratchet "exploitless" would literally be a casual playthrough, just skipping as many enemies as possible, using a couple of specific weapons, and having to go through all the crap in the game that isn't fun to do over and over and over again, like clank sections, or ship battles, or vidcomics. If you want to see that, be the change you want to see in the world, because I and many, many others sure as hell won't. If you're looking for that kind of casual experience with min-maxing on routes, you'd do far better to find games that actually facilitate it, like many RPGs. Also, this is a GDQ event. A speedrunning event. An event where if skips exist, people are going to use them. Surely you knew what you were in for.

A glitch/exploit-less run is a let's play. Why bother? I want to see people tear these games apart, that's the fun.
@OniLink966 жыл бұрын
Kingdom Hearts is glitchless by default for the most part and that shit's pretty good, I dunno. And yeah, Hooded Man is right about there being a great many categories with arbitrary limitations to try and make the runs actually consist of gameplay instead of being more or less a warp to boss/credits. Going Commando has No IMG because IMG cuts out half of the game and Deadlocked has a split NG+ category now too. Glitchless R&C wouldn't be particularly interesting, but glitchless runs in general aren't let's plays.
@Orphyx5 жыл бұрын
@@OniLink96 I get that this is like 9 months old, but Glitchless/Inbound/no OoB runs of just about ANY RaC game is literally just playing the game normally to an extent. Seeing Any% and NG+ runs and then watching one of the Glitchless/OoB runs just wouldn't be the same. The trilogy of RaC games are known for their insane difficulty to beginners, and even veteran runners, but also their awesome tech and impossible looking tricks. A run without them just wouldn't be the same, EVEN AGB runs use glitches and clips while collecting all the gold bolts and looking more like a normal playthrough.

That final boss skip is super interesting.... It requires preparation before the run itself, so is that even fair? It seems odd, but I kind of get why it would be allowed. Very interesting case.
@SLauGHTeRHaHa6 жыл бұрын
yeah it was kinda controversial right after it was found since it does require multiple saves so it could be seen as file manipulation, but eventually it was allowed for ng+ (which already has preparation) but banned for any new game categories.

@thechatteringclown6 жыл бұрын
can anyone tell me if there's ever gonna be an inbounds category for this series? i hate the fact that pretty much all of the r&c runs consists of skipping literally everything by abusing outbound glitches. personally i'd much rather watch someone find a way to play the games as fast as possible, rather than someone finding the fastest way not to play the game.
@JoeBriefcase6 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is. Considering that speed running is about getting from start to finish that's to be expected. However, check out some speed runs of the Sly Cooper games, they are bit more similar to what you're talking about. Especially Sly 2 and 3, they're a bit more clean, so to speak.
@joannawood73526 жыл бұрын
the reason ther isnt an inbound category for anything is that inbounds is a very iffy category in the first place and also jesus fuck the R&C games would take like 3 hours minimum each and be boring as shit to watch
@thechatteringclown6 жыл бұрын
+Chris Messier eh i find them boring as shit to watch as they are. you don't actually get to see anything interesting, just a bunch of unfinished textures and empty voids. it isn't fun in the slightest to watch something were literally nothing's going on and r&c speedruns consist of at least 90% nothingness. +Aljosja true, but that's why there are categories in the first place, right? i mean a lot of games have categories like any% and 100%, where it's still about going as fast as possible, but the objective is different. also, i already did. i watch most of GDQ's speedruns, it's just that some are more interesting to watch than others.
@dead_lombax53946 жыл бұрын
imo i see thrill for ppl using OoB areas to get through the game faster. Either it would be ghost ratchet, getting enough speed to clip through a mountain, decoy clips etc. Also since i’ve been playing the game casually for almost 13 years, it’s cool seeing something different in the routing and makes the game fresh. But I can see where you’re coming from when it’s a bit boring seeing every planet they go outta bounds and into the ship.
