Same here. I was fine with it being a short game and enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn't think much of it but after the two experimental titles but it was a good short experience I played through about 2-3 times (challenge mode and not). It didn't feel as annoying to me with the raritanium modding weapons change compared to Crack In Time's drastic changes of modding or ship level select you can fly around to moons, do box quests and fly to the main levels among other things because it was short so I didn't think much of it compared to a bigger game but 2016 reboot was fine for quality of life tweaks, Clank levels being more fun and that was it remixing things into a reboot with not much 2002 content and cutting levels among other things (but I've gotten past it over time). But Rift Apart it did have the Tools like formula and made me kind of confused why Insomniac went backwards from Crack In Time when I assume most fans love it's changes (besides reusing gadgets again and it feeling like a Crack In Time 2 but with the Tools framework on top and it doesn't work) unless it's the story but otherwise I'm confused everytime I heard Crack In Time is great but the Devs went the other way despite the praise Crack In Time has when most drastic changes in games Devs know fans/players hate and follow up on it not go backwards from praise of changes to the formula. That and Nexus feels like a good use of the Rift Tether's abilities, and the Gravity Boots while not much made level designs that little bit interesting (sad not the Starship Phoenix idea though that would have been cool) then Rift Apart's reuse of Tools and Crack In Time gadgets/formula but less interesting (to me personally). So that's why Rift Apart didn't make a lot of sense to me, its a fine game but weird decisions were made with it that didn't grab me. Either way Into the Nexus is a fine game better than Quest for Booty as a short gap/new ideas/part Tools& Crack elements. Even for a short epilogue I think it was done fine. Rift Apart continuing it wasn't bad but even it's end is so safe that I'm just like 'so we still have this since 2007 story going because they don't know what else to do/want to string us along, maybe want another trilogy of games but still in the same timeline/future universe and find the lombax goal or something after the reboot/rebooting us like DMC to Devil May Cry 5 similar situation and even then it's a messy mix of gameplay on top of the fine continued story when it was fine with Nexus leaving it at he doesn't mind not finding them and again not caring but we have Rivet' right... Ok then. This series is fine but feels like it has an identity crisis at times on what they want to do with it/milking it or something and it confuses me. Their mature games/VR and so on teams seem like they know what they are doing more than the Ratchet team I think. Veterans or new staff/fans of the series working on the games even. Also I forget the internet reference period sigh. Why Devs why, who asked for this. That and while I don't pay that much attention a commenter in the uselesspodcast NOT developer commentary let's play on Rift Apart did a good look at the story issues. I can't even scratch the surface.

@LuxBellator927 ай бұрын
Always thought everything they've done (or haven't done, really) with Angela to have been a missed opportunity. Even if they kind of wrote themselves into a corner with her character, given the chosen one/last of his species trope the Future saga adopted, there were ways around it. Have Angela be Azimuth's student or his partner (who stayed behind with him), or have some familial connection to Ratchet. Anything would have been better than the series awkwardly asking us to forever forget she existed (and yet, at the same time, making side jokes about her in ACIT). It's just weird and messy writing.

Wow! This certainly was an interesting game, not only in how much Rift Apart built off from it, but also in how good that opening part is (in terms of a narrative at the very least). I knew vaguely of the story beats in this game, but after watching this lovely retrospective I see that many of them were (narratively) pretty well done all things considered. It truly is weird in how this series of retrospectives is nearly done with two more games left (I assume those are Reboot and Rift Apart if memory serves me correctly) considering how I found out about the channel just a week or two after the first one dropped. I has been a wild ride learning so much about a series I loved but had less experience with than I had liked (Rift Apart was the first new Ratchet game I had played since Deadlocked). While this particular journey is not yet over I want to say how enjoyable it has been overall. The humor, the honesty, the sheer amount of research and passion put into every second. It all makes for a wonderful time and I hope to recommend you to someone in the *future*, but only time will tell. I suppose I feel the need to exposit so much as this game sort of evokes that with its epilogue feel. Regardless, looking forward to the end of the series just to see the sheer seesaw of quality the next two games are for me, and looking forward to whatever comes in-between. Thank you kindly and I hope you have a great rest of day/week/whatever.

I bought Nexus not long after the announcement for the PlayStation's closure was posted on the net, thought I should find some rare games so I got this and Tomba 2... then they backed out of closing it so yeah, I got 3 fun games out of something that never happened. Thank you for this retrospective on one great series, I get to see childhood favorites in a different light and have a stronger desire to try out the games I missed out on. Best of luck to whatever you're doing next. Nexus Vita is an annomaly. the Trophy page for the game on PSN has both a PS3 and Vita tab, the only other game with an error like this was The Bit.Trip and that was for a PS3 version when the game's only on Vita and PS4. As someone who thought A Crack in Time was always short this length does seem rather concerning to me, but elsewise you've sold me on a game I've never really given so much as a look, with some development background to boot. I really liked this because it shows that Nefarious isn’t the only good villain in the series. I really hope in future games, they come up with original new villains and not just nefarious. I like Nefarious but I wish they would focus on new villains. Also wish they actually make the weapon level ups more balanced and slow down. I get they want the weapons to be fully upgraded by the time you get to the final boss but I wish there was a setting or difficulty that slows down how fast your weapons upgrade. It’d make replaying in challenge mode more fun. Having to replay multiple times to fully upgrade your weapons to max.

Maybe it's because I played this game for the first time last year after a R&C marathon (I had played up to A4O previously), but the way ITN referenced the older games and essentially wrapped up the PS3 saga was really satisfying. It was like after all the tumolt of the PS3 era, they pulled it together for one last hurrah to make the type of game they really wanted to, only shorter. It almost felt like a short PS2 entry but with upgraded visuals. There are some little things which addressed questions I had, like Clank being able to fly with the helipack in that cutscene, I always thought since he can decend with the weight of Ratchet he should be able to fly around himself easily. Heck he should be able to rocket around with the jetpack. It's like they had the time (and/or knowledgable experienced developers) to go through all the previous games and the lore to develop a more cohesive and grounded in the universe game; (there probably are some plot holes I didn't notice) but with a shorter game it's harder to make mistakes I suppose. Edit: Also the music in this game is very underrated. I've listened to all the OSTs about ten times and Nexus is much better than it ought to be. Maybe a close second behind Deadlocked, 2&3 are also very good it's hard to decide.

I thought this game actually slapped real hard. The level design was pretty great and each planet felt pretty unique in that aspect, the combat and weapons had felt the most balanced since R&C1, visually and presentation wise it was pretty decent and the story tied up the PS3 saga of games nicely and makes you think the Future trilogy's story isn't as messy as it actually was haha. It was an almost perfect bit of R&C comfort food, what QfB should've been if Insomniac had all the time in the world. Anyways thanks for the video!

I took a short break from the games after a crack in time, maybe six months. Then I found out about into the nexus, after spending more time than I'd like to admit reading the wiki. Into the Nexus kind of shaped the way I remember the the future series. It's my personal favorite, UYA being a close-ish second. Because of the gap between my playthrough of future and into the nexus, the amazing epilogue game overwrote in my mind the downsides of future, booty, and crack

I don’t remember much about my initial playthrough, only that I was underwhelmed from the short runtime. But thanks to your videos I think I’m not only gonna give this game another try, but also give the spin-offs a fair shot now. Maybe I was just too jaded from the series’ fumbles during the PS3 era to really enjoy it

My favourite ratchet and clank game on PS3 for sure. I love the weapons, the story, the gameplay. Before playing this I had taken a three or four year hiatus from the series after selling my PS3. I’ve got a new one though and got Nexus with it. So I really really love this game because it got me back into the series in like 2015. It’s probably nostalgia, I just really really love this game. Also love the fact that it’s not too long so I was able to do two or three Playthroughs in about two weeks between other things.

Great video we getting close to end the retrospective finally! The journey was long but we getting closer to the end 👍🏼 Nexus is the most underrated game in the franchise maybe people gonna disagree with me but that’s my opinion. The gameplay is by far the best in the franchise the story is really good (even if it’s so short) weapons are not recycled (except for zurkon but at least we got his family debut in nexus and I don’t know if it’s good or bad because zurkon jr is alright until richard steven horvitz voice act him in rift apart and he’s ruin the arena challenges in that game) and in my opinion pink eye is the best final boss in the franchise. My only negatives about nexus are the 30fps, the release date and console. I hate when a publisher make exclusives next gen games multiplatform but i think if insomniac made nexus a ps4 launch title and release it along with the ps3 version maybe it’s could preform much better, sell more units at launch when the only platformer in this console launch was freaking knack and maybe make ratchet relevant in the ps4 era (they did it with spider-man miles morales and this game is basically similar to nexus with short story and release on a previous gen console) because this game is so good and very underrated a lot of elements from this game move to the movie tie-in game and rift apart. About Before the Nexus people always saying that it’s the worst game in the franchise I disagree, this game at least give you the option to get raritanium and it’s wasn’t that bad i like it and at least the game is better than the freaking psp games. Also raritanium not that’s hard to find in nexus especially in challenge mode. I managed to get platinium trophy in the game and this is the only game from the future/ps3 era i ever platinium (i completed tools of destruction & quest for booty but they don’t have trophies). Now we waiting for the movie tie-in retrospective.

One of my all time fav games in the series to be honest. If it had just 2 more planets worth of meat on its bones I can only imagine the heights it would have reached. Easily my favorite villains too. Fun design, amazing backstory and fun gameplay encounters too.

You can tell the insomniac devs were all over portal 2 when they made this game. Clank puzzles with lasers and gravity, excursion funnel gun, and the dark abandoned ruins of a long forgotten facility, the game being released in 2013 lol. It screams it and I love it

I also like Ratchet's design in this game. He looks like he did in the PS2 era with his really big eyes, but without the polygon limitations of the PS2. And then they used those big eyes to make him very expressive. Just his new weapon acquired animation has so much character.

I quite disliked that the siblings followed Angela's nonsensical morals, slightly. Angela killed her coworkers and suddenly becomes a good guy like that never happened. The siblings murdered Cronk and Zephyr and everybody forgets about it (save for a quick joke at the end) and they get their "redemption" so to speak.

An R&C rpg does sound good, I mean we already have an exp system plus mission system, so all we need is an open world, some more gunz of mass destruction, good moments, and we should be golden

To me, ACIT is the pinnacle of R&C games. There is just so much stuff packed in it and I enjoy every single aspect of it but I do admit that Into The Nexus feels great to play and to walk through its levels. I'm going through a little marathon of R&C myself at the moment, currently at Tools of Destruction (never managed to finish that one).

If you use the laser gauntlet weapon and jump with the rocket clank backpack high jump and use laser gauntlet dive move against a wall you can scale any wall in the entire game skipping sections or entire levels. So basically you just rocket high jump, laser dive, rocket high jump, laser dive etc and so on and you’ll climb any wall to the top lol fun glitch for exploring levels out of bounds as well

It’s crazy to think that with everything going on and clearly the PS4 being right there like a week later. That Into the Nexus was a ps3 game, and not on the PS4. Like they could have kept it short and just kinda been like “YO NEW PS, NEW RATCHET!” And like short or not, it probably would’ve done gang busters compared to what it did on the ps3.
@Treetops272 жыл бұрын
Crunch really is this series worst enemy. UYA easily could have been the definitive peak of the original trilogy and aCiT could have been one of the greatest games of all time. Nexus with twice the length could have been amazing.

Despite its 5 hours length, ItN was a concise experience with cool ideas and concepts and actual attempts at originality when it came to the arsenal. I'm surprised you did not dive more into the weapons. Talwyn, Cronk and Zephyr get to appear one last time (even if they don't contribute much, if at all). And even though the story had to be rushed, the ending bring a final answer to the question raised since the end of OD (you know, until they retconned that) and is still open enough to let our imagination wander. I'd say the two last scenes at the museum were an ever better note to end the series on that ACiT - although, that will definitely depend on who you ask. I still wish all the time and resources put into FFA had been put into this game though. It could have allowed for a longer game, with more worlds and a more fleshed out story. The what if that personally come to mind with this game is "What if Talwyn had been more involved" and "What if Vendra had an actual boss fight?". Speaking of Tal, you have never spoken truer words: "That is actually the truest constant of the Ratchet & Clank series: [Talwyn] will never have anything nice happen."
