Loved watching this review. I absolutely adored Rift Apart. It’s weapon lineup was great, the graphics looked like I was watching a Pixar movie and it’s gameplay and combat was so well done. Yeah the Trudi sections were the low points of the game. You can switch the flight controls to the left analog stick from the options, but it doesn’t make it all that much better. I didn’t really mind Ratchet’s portrayal all that much. Given how the game took place a long time after Into the Nexus, he hasn’t done any hero work in a long while so he may have been out of the game. I preferred it over his poor man’s Luke Skywalker portrayal in the PS4 game. I also encountered a few technical issues too. But I’m glad they’re getting patched. In terms of the Sheep featured in the gallery being Drek, it could be the alternate dimension version of Drek as it mentioned that Emperor Nefarious turned him into the Sheep, not Doctor Nefarious. I was a little disappointed that Ratchet wanting to find the Lombaxes didn’t receive a conclusion, but I have a feeling that’s what the ending was setting up. Especially as we see Ratchet, Clank and Talwyn looking at a Galactic map and Ratchet, Clank, Rivet and Kit jumping through a dimensional portal. Overall, I was very satisfied with Rift Apart. Would it be my favourite? That’s a tough one. My 3 Favourite R&C games are Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal and A Crack in Time. I can safely say Rift Apart has entered that competition and I can’t wait for the future of the franchise.

Glad you loved it! I get that Ratchet hasn't been active in a while, but I still find it weird he'd be scared of Amoeboids and talking so high pitched. He's definitely better than he was in the PS4 game though, his hesitation to see the Lombaxes was a good aspect to delve deeper into. I eventually realized the sheep was alternate dimension Drek after proofreading, but kept the line in as a joke lol, might be hard to tell though. It's actually a pretty clever way of using a non canon idea for a different dimension.

Coming back to this series after the original on the PS2 and the PS4 remake with this game was a real treat. Story was good, characters were cool, graphics were breathtaking, and the gameplay was really fun. I found Ratchet’s characterisation to be a natural step forward after not doing anything heroic for a long time, in his shoes I’d be probably be anxious too considering the stakes were so much higher than usual. He probably hasn’t seen an ameboid in canon since the PS2 days so that’s something to factor in. Overall I agree with everything else you said it’s an amazing game that delivered. I had the same reservations as yourself going in so just I’m pleasantly surprised and can’t wait for the next game if there is one
@arcaedonluminos6663 жыл бұрын
It is true that he hadn't seen Amoeboids in years, but that's the case for many other enemies he encounters in the game, like the Robomutts and Sandsharks. Also, he did fight Amoeboids when fighting against Nefarious at the start of the game, so reacting to them like that later on is kind of inconsistent.

I didn't find the levels empty, and they're big to accommodate fast traversal.

i saw the game on youtube and the story weirdly bugged me and i didn't know why. it wasn't until kit entered the story that made me realise "apart from all the cool features the ps5 can do. the story is based on the alternate dimension characters and nothing else". it felt like this game was the first game to come after UYA or tools of destruction. to me, the story felt episodic because none of the characters past had anything to do with the main story. i haven't seen dunkey's review but some have said he labelled the story as "self-congratulatory" and looking back on that now, i can see where he's coming from. also as a savings goal i plan too get a ps5 with this game so can everyone in the comments wish me luck on that

This game made me stop picking any singular Ratchet game my “favorite game of all time” because my top three favorite games, This, Going Commando, and Crack in Time, offer their own different things that I will not get in the other games in the franchise nor will I expect to get in a future title. I love Going Commando for its wicked variety I love Crack in Time for being the most Mario-like in terms of structure (helps that Orvus is voiced by Mario himself) And I love Rift Apart for scratching my Uncharted Itch AND inserting classic Ratchet gameplay as well as expanding on the Hoverboots. This series just makes me so goddamned happy

There’s a lot to love about this game. However, what keeps it from being perfect for me is its writing. It claims to be a standalone story, but it opens up by directly referencing the Great Clock, and calling back to Clank taking the Dimensionator from Nexus. That made me think “yo! Is this a continuation of the Future series after all!” But what confused me is later on, where Ratchet acts all surprised at seeing another Lombax. It made no sense, because it’s implied that this is the Ratchet from the Future series, and who played through A Crack In Time. I’m guessing that’s what they meant by referencing older games, but it was super confusing to experience. Ratchet definitely felt off. I liked his arc about the Lombaxes, but he was a bit too scared. The intro where he was worried about being washed up was fine with me, that felt right. But the Amiboid dialogue line made no sense. If he was disgusted by them instead of fearful, that would have worked a lot better. I also felt like Rivet and Kit made up a little too well. I can understand Rivet forgiving her, but they seem to be redoing the 2016 “instant buddies” thing, which I don’t like. Definitely have them make up, but let them interact with each other more before reaching a close bond. Hopefully the next game addresses that. Also, there were some small details that were overlooked, like how Ratchet and Rivet would suddenly have items that their counterparts had in the previous level (e.g. Rivet suddenly having hover boots). For me, though, if this game had better writing and more enemy variety, it would easily be the best in the series. That said, I have never played the original trilogy, because my first console was the PS3. And PS Now doesn’t include them (and isn’t in Australia) I have, however, picked it up for Vita from a friend. From what I’ve seen, the controls aren’t great, but it’s still good to play.
@arcaedonluminos6662 жыл бұрын
Insomniac wanted Rift Apart to feel like something of a standalone, so that newcomers could easily get into it, but it is still a sequel. I think it makes sense for Ratchet to act surprised and awkward at meeting a new Lombax, they're hard to come by, after all. He's definitely too scared throughout the game, though. I've heard the Vita ports of the OT aren't very good, hopefully you won't have too many troubles. They do exist on PS Store on PS3 if you want to play them there.
@T_Dude2 жыл бұрын
@@arcaedonluminos666 My PS3 doesn’t work well anymore, and I’m anyways moving somewhere else for Uni for a few months. Also, it felt like Ratchet was too surprised to see another Lombax, which doesn’t help that Rivet said the exact same thing. Then again, it’s implied Angela exists in her universe as well, so who knows what’s going on there. This is a weird timeline.

Now, I want to say that I’ve been a fan of all the PS2 games since they originally released all the way up until Deadlocked. The only other games outside of the first four on PS2 were Quest for Booty, a Crack in Time, and the PS4 game which I personally hated with a passion, with that being said, maybe it’s not fair for me to judge Rift Apart compared to my own love of the originals because it’s fair to say that I haven’t been around for the series entire evolution, and I’m very biased for the original PS2 games. That’s my preface of saying that I’m potentially not the most fair of reviewers. With that being said, this game’s graphics are revolutionary when it comes to animated movies come to life in video game form. All of the animations when enemies get damaged by certain weapons, the crispness of all the 3D models, and how much the objects in this game just pop out of my screen are amazing. I’m not that convinced the Ray traced reflections are that amazing of a graphical feature in any game, but they’re definitely a welcome addition, especially when using certain armors. Voice acting, I also felt Ratchet & Clank’s voice performances were off. Not just the performances, but the writing itself. Nearly 90% of the time they both sound super insecure with themselves, which in the right context would be great but it’s just out of nowhere. Ratchet didn’t seem like himself anymore while Clank sounded like he was very guilt ridden the whole game, which kind of make sense because he does think he’s responsible for the dimensions going amuck, but he was still generally not entertaining or even endearing to listen to at all. Rivet’s voice acting was okay, can’t find anything wrong with it but I don’t think she or her writing excelled at anything either, she actually kind of reminded me of how Ratchet used to act in the older games (kinda). Kit was absolutely the best addition to the cast, I think that’s because I found her personality to be more fresh and believable since she’s not used to having company and genuinely is afraid of hurting others. But otherwise, I was very, very underwhelmed with the writing and most vocal performances. I loved both Nefarious’s though! I would really hope he could be in the next game but evolve as a character, while the emperor nefarious could make another appearance too. Quark and Quantum I felt were fine as well! I don’t want to bog my comment too long and I realize that I’ve complained more than I’ve praised. The game was really fun, miles better than 2016 R&C, and I can see myself going through challenge mode a few times. For me personally though, the tone was way off for me, the weapons were great but I felt the order in how they were unlocked could of been better, the level design was very bland (loved the Clank puzzles though! And planet Cordelion felt top tier). While there were some funny moments, nothing made me laugh out loud like the past games, the soundtrack was bland, the arena was boring, and there weren’t enough platforming sections imo. As a Ratchet & Clank game, it’s definitely a 6/10 for me, but as a game as a whole it’s an 8.2. I’m glad that Insomniac wants to continue with the series, we’re lucky to have had so many games in this franchise, but I really hope with the next game we get levels that are a lot more focused on platforming, better hacking, way more enemy variety, and more intriguing character dynamics across the whole cast.

I'll admit that part of why I enjoyed the writing is that it's just much better than that of R&C PS4, and the best since A Crack in Time. I much prefer ACIT's writing, as well as the PS2 games', but Rift Apart impressed me, given the standards set by PS4 lol. That's also why I was pleasantly surprised by the music, which I do think is pretty well composed, even though I much prefer the PS2 music. Would be great if the next game can still improve on these factors.
@mannypaul73693 жыл бұрын
@@arcaedonluminos666 I apologize if I sounded overly pessimistic! It’s genuinely refreshing to hear a positive take like yours especially since you’ve played every game in the series! I’d say when it comes down to the nitty gritty, the gunplay is still there and it’s fantastic! While I didn’t enjoy every level, at least half of them were still really fun, and the other levels I didn’t really enjoy are just because I’m not a huge fan of the more open structure of them (so Corson V, Sargasso, and Savali). And the writing is still good for what it is, I feel like the first half of the game’s writing isn’t great but once Kit is introduced is when things start to pick up. My favorite dialogue would definitely have to be when Ratchet & Kit are in Cordelion (the underwater level) with the drones, the killer fish, and switching between dimensions was amazing. Anyways, awesome review boss man! Keep up the great work! And I’m just glad Ratchet & Clank are still relevant these days, and hopefully we can get at least one more game this generation on PS5.

@@androidoficeandfire9667 Yep, that's the first game I played on PS5! Not for long though, but I did record some footage from that game for this review. It's great to finally be able to play it in 60FPS, even though it felt very unusual lol.

This is my second favorite game that I ever played in any game console I played. Sure it does have it's flaw and stuff but that doesn't mean it was totally bad, HELL NO. What I'm saying is that for a newcomer who played the 2016 one, yeah hate me (I never play the original ones on PS2 or PS3, I had an Xbox at that time), I adore Rift Apart, it is probably the best Ratchet And Clank game we got in a while. The gameplay was simple and I like how they tweaked in a bit with the mechanics. The story was great, not like spectacular like the old ones or emotional like ACIT, but it better than the 2016 story. Overall: For me I gave it a strong 10/10 for me. I thought it was perfect for me. If I had to rank it, probably a top 6-7 game in the R&C series.

They dumbed R&C games down because they’re marketing more towards a younger audience as compared to the older games where Ratchet is much more sarcastic

Why did they make Ratchet so whiney? ugh... I loved the game otherwise. Also I love how Rivet mentions Angela in the prison, insomniac rubbing Salt in the wound of Angela fans again 🤣

@@arcaedonluminos666 exactly lol, they keep mentioning her but will never actually bring her back, it's too late for that now. I want her to come back but there are just too many retcons that it wouldn't make sense at this point unless they found a way to actually explain her.
