Good tutorial. Better yet you seem to have answered every post. Few do. I just picked up a four pack. To attach them to the boxish cardboard affair they came with a 3/4 inch headed philips screw that had a 5/16 inch length and a width of 1/4 inch.. It was threaded into the flat metal part that is 1 3/8" long that is closest to the permanent hook strap side. Is there a use for that screw to remain there? It's a strong screw, I don't want to waste it if there's a use for it. It seems like it could scratch a surface if I tightened it up. While I've used straps many times I've not paid attention to know if there's always a threaded opening for a screw in that spot or not. If you know where I'm talking about should I leave the screw there?

@@johnnyworks5446 I removed it to get the cardboard of the packaging off easier then put it back in the hole it came out of for now. It seemed an unecessary waste of a screw and the making of a hole for said screw for those packaging it to have included it. Unless there's normally a hole there.

But how do you RELEASE it?? I've got one where the long end is wrapped around the 'ratchet' and I don't know how to loosen it!

You have to grab the handle and while you try to pull it open squeeze the the lever to unlock it. Then open it as far as you can until you feel the tension release. Then you can pull out the strap.

When securing the object (ladder), instead of wrapping around the object, wrap around the strap coming from the first anchor point, and then hook up to the other anchor point. When you just go around the object, it can slide left and right, not so when you go around the strap.
