7:36 Some people invert the toggle in Les Pauls, Eddie Van Halen's Wolfgang guitar also has an inverted toggle (afaik). It makes sense if you play a lot of tapping through the bridge pickup because you accidentally switch to the neck position when the toggle is regular while tapping.

Great idea, Ola - love the video. The Rammstein cover at the start is pretty much a note-for-note / tone recreation! He's even using the Richard Z Kruspe ESP signature ;) I too am not a huge fan of the very scooped, fizzy tone the band used in the 90s... the post-Mutter albums have a much rounder and full sound which suits the band's dramatic, theatric delivery and presentation.

About bridge/beck selector pickup I changed the side too on my lespaul (I turned it 90°) because 1. it prevents changing bridge pickup to neck pickup if I move a lot on stage and 2. we can come back quicker on bridne pick after a solo for example by just "slapping forward" the selector (I dont know if it's understandable but when you have the guitar in your hand it's more logical - by the way that's my thing, maybe not everyone things).

Hope this becomes a regular... i really need more exposure to diff amps (live in a Metal desert). Personally, I like to start with a very clean/loud pickup, and let it push the pre-amp (tube or pedal) from there... for me, if I start with too much coloration (i.e. distortion from the pickup) then it limits what I can do downstream.

It's understandable most would want just the guitar. The problem you run into is that although you come up with a great tone. When you play with others it sometimes doesn't work out. So you gotta adjust for both the band setting and individual. It's like you could have a great tone on its own. But the mix or whatever changes it entirely. I'd say judge based off both

Hello. So I don’t know much about pedals or any gear to be honest. When I was a teenager my brother had a Crate practice amp and loved how it sounded. So when I eventually needed an amp that I could hear with my drummer buddy, I bought a Crate GT1200 Full Stack. But it seems to lack in the crunch tones. Would you recommend I try like a Amptweaker Depthfinder or maybe a distortion pedal to get a better crunchy tone? My favorite bands to jam to are Megadeth, Death, King Diamond, Carcass, etc. Thanks. An easy way to get a great metal tone is to simply buy a dimebucker, tune your guitar down to D standard 425 Hz / 430 Hz and set your amp with a little mid (around 4), high bass and treble (around 8 , 9). Even better if you add a gain booster pedal

This is interesting on many levels. Tone is subjective in a way, like you mentioned, but knowledge of tonedesign is a big factor of course. Then there are factors like on what kind of speakers do we listen to the recordings and how well do we manage to record the sound etc. So Equipement can also be a big factor. I recently spend a day on "my metalsound" apart from this video, only to play with it on the next day and disliking my final result. So there is also a day form (don't know if this term does make sense in english). Personally I'm a big fan of sharper, bass heavy, lower on mids sounds but I do know they lack that warm tone. I haven't managed to combine both worlds yet. it's either warm but not as brutal or the other. I'm playing with Boss Katana MK2, harley benton g212, solar 1.6 D ltd (basically ola sold me everything of it through videos XD NO REGURDS)

Yeah, back when that was recorded for some reason I was using a low pass at around 10,500, which I've stopped doing now haha. Although I do tend to still prefer slightly darker tones. As for mids, they were boosted, both low mid and high mid knobs were at 6/10; although I was using a Black Winter pickup, which makes everything sound scooped anyway haha.

When you say mixed in songs, do you mean them playing in a full mix? Because in a full mix, an isolated guitar tone will sound way different and way thinner than you think because the guitar shouldn't try to cover all the frequencies, the bass it supposed to give the boost to the low end. if you play a "good guitar tone" in a full mix, it'll clash harshly with the other instruments.

Does anyone use analog pedals and what not still? or is everyone pretty much all digital effects? Funny that everyone gave the line 6 spyder because of all of its digital effects, but now most people use digital effects and profiles to copy sounds

Would be nice if there where some tutorials how to record and mix metal music. Just some easy stuff with basic shit. I think there are a lot of people (and beginners) that want to record some shit and don't know how to make it sound good.

Dude at 8:20 has a brilliant amp that can get really nice overdrive when cranked and a tube expander to crank it through but he chooses to run it clean and gets all of his distortion from a low-mid tier fuzz/overdrive pedal. Come on.
