the pianist went to drum and the violinist became the guitar player ;) It's just like that, they are multi-instumentalists :)

Hey! Where did the piano guy go? That's Yoshiki. He stripped off his shirt and moved over to the drums. : ) This version was more about the crowd interaction than anything else. X Japan were hugely influential, both in the Japanese metal and in the visual kei scenes. There are many, many references to X Japan in BABYMETAL lyrics and in their performances. Even the neck brace is an homage to the one Yoshiki had to wear because of damaging his neck from too much vigorous head banging.

I’m actually curious about the references in their lyrics. As someone that speaks not even a lick of Japanese, it’d be fun to dive into that.

@@scarabmcgee263 If you're interested in the lyrics, Du-metal has the best site for English translations of BABYMETAL songs. Here's the song list: du-metal.blogspot.com/2013/09/song-list.html Lots of footnotes and explanations. Duane Metal (a different guy) has 88 videos in his series "Learning Japanese with BABYMETAL" Here's the video page on his KZbin Channel: kzbin.infovideos There are multiple lessons for each song he covers. Both sites cover the songs from the first two albums, although Duane Metal did skip 'Sis.Anger'.

X Japan started the metal revolution in Japan and they’re live shows are amazing. That song in Japan is like Kizz’s Rock all night and Party every day. If you want to hear Toshi’s vocals listen to the last live “endless rain”

The pianist is also the drummer, that's why there's a delay between the piano and the start of the song.

They are legends! I remember when Hide’s death publicly announced in japan back in 98. Fans went crazy. Tears everywhere... it was really tough to see that. Never witnesses something like that

The classic is still the best version for all that show means, the beginning of the classic version is much more emotional because of everything that happened behind. Very nice the violin and the piano but it is more emotional in the old version, hide's smile in that beginning oh men : _(

In Japan there was music before X and music after X. Almost all new rock bands are inspired by them including very much BABYMETAL. If you want to get in with Japanese business people, learn this song and sing it at kereoke and you will have friends for life. They wrote some of the best rock ballads ever.

You aren't wrong about japanese crowds from the 70s and 80s, I think that changed with X-Japan. Like someone else said there was music before X and music after X. Before X-Japan, Japanese society was much more reserved, but X-Japan pretty much went the exact opposite direction with their crazy hair, and fast/loud music, and the way they presented themselves, it would be fair to say X-Japan caused a change in Japanese society. At least that seems to be what I got from various interviews done in their documentary.

they didn't cause a change, they were from the generation that wanted a change. They spoke to the rebels, those who didn't want to conform. They became popular exactly because people found that X expressed how they felt about society. They did the things ordinary youth couldn't do to rebel at home.

I am Japanese. X-JAPAN has been a huge success in the music business. They were much more famous than Galneryus and sold a lot. X-JAPAN is a legend in Japan. Most Japanese people know X-JAPAN, but Galneryus is almost unknown. X-JAPAN has a lot of great songs, but I think Galneryus is better at composing and performing music. Galneryus is the most underrated Japanese band. I hope Galneryus will get more recognition.

a few years ago I was in Korea at an airbnb where the room next door was occupied by a Japanese couple in their 60s. We were having breakfast and my phone screen was Yoshiki, an old photo where he was wearing a lace dress and had long hair still. The old man gave me a thumbs up and said, "Yoshiki-san! good, good!" :D we had a nice chat in broken English afterwards. They were really cute and it did seem like everyone in Japan knows X Japan, even from just a lone old photo, they recognise Yoshiki :)

exactly what I said, I think they are doing a live stream thing, and someone said to do the one with the violin. Whoever said that needs to get smakced in the head, How can you skip over the "Last Live" performance, but they didn't know, and were just following someone else.

Wish you reacted to older live for this. X japan is a Really good band since the late 80s. and the had The Most influence on the bands Today. I personally do think they peak at ballads. But galneryus is definitely better in skill, technique and composing. And as much of a great singer toshi (x japan singer) is that he even sings Today in his 50s (like SHO from galneryus), SHO is much better in vocal technique and control and is more verstile than toshi (while toshi has a natural Beautiful voice compared to SHO). His voice is declined now but he is still singing when he is 56 (like toshi). Specially SHO at his prime Clears toshi in anytime. What do you think?

I made a text of my own knowledge about X Japan, hoping it would have some insight youre new to. There is a band called X Japan, which is quite literally, the most famous band out from Japan, They are the godfathers of genre called Visual Kei (Japanese metal songs with crazy aesthetics, makeup etc) they formed somewhere around mid 80's and are still going, but they were absent for 10 years from 1997 to 2008, they disbanded in 1997 because their vocalist Toshi got brainwashed by a cult and forced to leave the band. They held (at the time) their last live concert named The Last Live, few months after their disbandment their lead guitarist Hideto "hide" Matsumoto died due to an accident while drunk (it was first stated that he killed himself, but the band members were very against it, cause of how positive hide was as a person) his passing broke the whole country of Japan into grief, his grave is still visited today and there is a guitar museum in his memory in Japan. His funeral caused mass traffic of grieving fans in Tokyo, numbers around 50 000. Some even took their own life while grief-stricken. Their former bassist killed himself in 2011, he was kicked from the band from unknown reasons in 1992. X Japan influenced the music industry in Japan as much as their conservative society, which lead to Rock music taking uprising in Japan and there is a way in Japan where they use names as Pre- and Post X Japan, on how much they influenced everything. The songs are mostly composed and written by their drummer/pianist Yoshiki Hayashi, who based a lot of the bands song from his tragic past. He was born in a frail and weak body, he wasnt meant to survive past his 20's yet he is still making music, he has been a classical pianist from the age of 4, he took up drumming at the age of 10, when he lost his father to a suicide. He started playing drums with such aggression that he was hospitalized and sometimes collapsed on stage due to immense pain and lack of air. Yoshiki has composed an anniversary song for the Emperor of Japan which he performed at the 10th anniversary of the Emperor. He also composed the theme song for the Golden Globe awards and has been taking over the music industry in rock music as in classical piano aswell. He also had a comic made by Stan Lee himself, named Blood Red Dragon, and his own Hello Kitty character named Yoshikitty, he was also a big part in many documents such as We Are X! and Yoshiki: My Story. Their past guitarist hide also had a solo career which was very succesful until his death in 1998, he had many documentaries about him after his death, but sadly many of them arent in english, nor subtitled. He was the founder of Headwax and Lemoned organisations and produced many smaller bands to bigger audiences. He is been compared to Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, in ways he affected the music industry in Japan. (also as others have stated, the first one was the Last Live version. Which is superior to the newer one, whole different energy and with hide aswell, they have ballads aswell, Endless Rain from Last Live also, is one of the most emotional performances i have seen, even more with knowing the bands background at the time)
