When i first started tuning my quad i've gone from 0.6 to 1.8 on D Weight because someone had those values on his video. My quad was shaking a lot, i tought my pids was bad untill i realized that my fingers were twitching a little and that caused my quad to wobble all the time, my motors were hot as hell and i couldn't find a good reason for that. Now i'm sticking with 1 D weight and 0.5 D Transition, it's just comes natural to fly acro with these numbers for me. But hey i've been waiting for a video like this and i clicked it immediatly when i saw it. Worth it, new subscriber for you mate. Keep it up!

Thanks! This is one of the best videos I have seen that explains rates in a logical way that makes sense. Two of the things that I think improved my flying was INCREASING yaw to be more sensitive than pitch/roll, and setting the D setpoint around 1. I never thought to do that for some reason, so it was a little counter-intuitive. Seems to have really improved how the quad feels to me though.

LazerLord10 What is propwash?
@LazerLord107 жыл бұрын
@Paul It's when your craft is traveling through air that has already been through the props. Think about having the throttle low, falling, and then increasing the throttle to bring yourself back up. That causes the craft to travel through its own propwash, and it can cause a not-so-well-tuned craft to wobble a bit.

I notiiced that you set you Rate very high and super rate low, This is backwards, if you want smooth flying try setting your rate to below 1 like .93 and super rate to 83 which gives you a full stick rate of 1023 deg/sec but you still have mellow response with light stick movement. This is a trick I learned from Stingerswarm. Also adding Expo diminishes your resolution and can make coming out of fast flips and rolls harder to do without overshooting or undershooting the move. get rid of expo, with soft Rate settings you will never miss it. Great video bro.

This is very fascinating! I'm going to give this a shot right now. The Stingy video you're referring to, is it "Tuning with Stingerswarm"? I've had it bookmarked, will have to check it out. I hadn't ever thought of adding expo as a resolution diminisher, but I can totally see that by watching the curve when I adjust. I also agree about this video though, very helpful!

@Kabab7 жыл бұрын
Darrel Martinez it shouldn't
@adamk.39467 жыл бұрын
Darrel Martinez depending on your motors, a higher d setpoint weight can make your motors hotter. I've done a lot of testing, and essentially it makes your D kick in harder, which gives you the more locked in feel kabob talks about. This also can cause more heat though. Just gotta experiment
@MrStevegibb7 жыл бұрын
Add rcsmothing for all channels and it should not make motors too much hotter. I run 1.5 setpoint weight which is the 3.0 default and what i like and didn't really make motors any hotter than running 1.0. But when i went to 1.9 motors came down noticeably warm i put this down to dterm kicks from the fact that 3.1 onwards smoothing is only on pitch and roll.

At 3:46 i think its wrong. Of course rcexpo changes the center part. You clearly can see it. It changes the middle part too, of course, because it must connect to the end. Meaning of expo never changed and has always effected the center smoothness.

@tchthsky6 жыл бұрын
I know this is old... but I'm fairly new. I have all the same issues, especially with the qx7. For a pincher, the gimbals are in deep wells, and the sticks are long... I think if they weren't so recessed, and the sticks shorter, and the switches relocated, then it would be great for pinching, and you wouldn't feel like you have to travel a continent to get to full deflection. I like more of a flatter curve for yaw. It feels unorthodox based on videos and screenshots all over the internet, though.
@tchthsky6 жыл бұрын
It's like using a stick shift made for a bus, or tractor trailer, in a race car...sorta
@Nandox77 жыл бұрын
Cool video and you bring up some issues that I (as a pinch pilot) have experienced and noticed. Most radios aren't that friendly to us (pinch pilots) still there are a few that I have found to be better, Spektrum DX7 (smaller radio body and stick travel) and Multiplex (allows to rotate the gimbals to an angle and make it more comfortable). As for increasing rates I do the same, but I've been to try and set the radio or the FC to reduce reduce the detected gimbal travel. Still one last problem remains (at least for me) the tendency to bind gimbal movements, for example I know that when I do a fast throttle movement I tent to unintentionally add some yaw as well. And I think that is here that the usage of RC expo was used in the past, that and the fact the radio gimbals weren't' that great and had bad centering. Deadbad was a solution but depending on much is needed it may make the center area quite jerky.
@Kabab7 жыл бұрын
Nandox7 what I do is that my left stick is more thumb than pinch so I don't yaw with the gas by accident. I still do sometimes however.
@chrispychickin7 жыл бұрын
ha, I thought I was uniquely weird with this sort of grip. Back when i flew only fixed wing, I used left stick with only thumb, and pinched on right stick. But quads require so much more resolution on the throttle axis that I transitioned to a hybrid pinch on the left side
@thomase59437 жыл бұрын
so in some earlier video you mentioned that your 2inch bulds do not feel as locked as your 5 inch. i must say my brushed micro feels as locked in as my 5 inch. but i cannot do acro with it as the motors can not react as fast. what i discovered when i first started flying brushed micros is that the smaller crafts especially brushed need much higher P. i ended up with my P at 10 which now would be equal to 100 on Pitch and Roll. i moved on to 5"now but would be interested in building a 2inch quad as light as i can with a runcam split on top. like the flexrc micro frame that can hold a 20x20 and 30x30 at 45deg angle. would you try your 2inch on double the P gains?
@Kabab7 жыл бұрын
Egi FPV that's exactly what in working on. smaller brushed builds. my theory is that it's the lighter weight that's more proportional to the prop size that gives that really locked in feel
@thomase59437 жыл бұрын
Kabab FPV i build a brushed micro hex on 2s for winter :) can do flips and rolls in my living room but very hard to tune out bounceback and sucks outdoor but might be better with new bf. will try it maybe. used these motors on 2s www.google.no/amp/s/m.fasttech.com/p/amp/3363100 on a brushed hex micro frame with no topolate just main plate. but the problem with brushed motors is that they end up with your prop shaft breaking out the motor base on every crash. i cut the shaft by approximately 2mm but still made out of cheese. i can not recommended anything powered by a brushed motor as it is just to much maintenance.

Peter Lech You have something else going on that's not a range issue, I fly spektrum and so do may other professional pilots, without any issues or drop outs. Check your Antennas, see if they un clipped from the ufl connector or have a bad connection, Also are you running a genuine spektrum receiver? if so which one? Also it sounds like your FC is resetting not a drop out and has nothing to do with your tx and rx. Obviously Kabab didn't even come close to answering your question, idk if it was he didn't want to or he just didn't know how to help you. But nothing is wrong with your system you do not need a TBS crossfire idk why he is even trying to push that on you rather than trying to help you, Come on kabab that is in no way how you help someone with a frustrating radio issue that can happen with any system.

Agreed. One of those things ... particularly in my case ... is when you suck at small precision movements and your fc just takes what your fingers do as a suggestion. Hahaha. It really smooths me out after a double shot of espresso or a red bull. 😅 Keep up the good work man. You're the last guy left who I still look forward to releasing a new video.

Almost same rates which I like to fly :)
@Kabab7 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of people are similar. like a human finger thing.
@trickkfpv25297 жыл бұрын
yes, had a couple of conversions on race events regarding "Race Rates". The most people fly between 800 - 950 dec/s, but some like it more "direct", some other like to move the sticks more.

Anti-thumbite! I have never tried pinching, but it is true that pinchers like higher rates. Trying to do a slow roll with a pinchers taranis was a real chore for me, it just kept rolling over. I'll have to do a my first pinch video.
@DevChow7 жыл бұрын
mooosestang I do somewhat half and half. I put my thumb on top and my index fingers on the sides, and that feels the most comfortable (same as Mr.Steele)
@slothFPV7 жыл бұрын
You should try punch or hybrid pinch, i switched and it helped my control so much
@mooosestang7 жыл бұрын
I've been told i have excellent control. I don't think pinching will do anything for me, it just doesn't feel natural, but it's worth trying just to make a video comparison.

mooosestang it will probably surprise you, i got noticeably smoother and did less over corrections and stuff when i switched

You kinda mixed up RC Expo and RC Rate; at least in your explanation of them, not your understanding of them. RC Rate is the linearity of the stick acceleration across the whole mid range into where Super Rate starts having a higher effect. In other words, RC Rate tunes how quickly your rate ramps up as you push the stick farther and farther, until you hit your max degrees per second dictated by your Super Rate. Then RC Expo effects just the small movements made around center stick. The difficulty is that you can achieve very similar rate setup using a combination of any two of the three options. Like you can use a combination of just Super and RC rates and tune that to be very similar to a combination of just Super Rate and Expo. You could even use a combo of just RC Rate and Expo, but you would need to use some aggressive numbers to get the feel right. The most important number, at least in my opinion, is RC Rate. This is what will most affect your stick feel across most of the stick range. RC Rate is what you want to dial in first. Then use Super Rate to dial in just how fast you want to rotate at full stick. Then use Expo to get the sensitivity you want with tiny stick movements.

It's all actually far more complicated. I presented in the simplest posible....just read the video description please...yes you're correct.

No worries. I read your description before commenting. I wasn't trying to correct you, ust wanted to add more info for people browsing the comments. And commenting on videos helps KZbin's search algorithms. Just trying to help everyone out yo

HexDan ya that doesn't happen when I fly. was just to audibly demonstrate I'm at the end.

Kabab FPV oh I see, I was thinking there is no way that could be good for your gimbals, lol.
