Yass. Some of us hate the farm. We don't want cheap gavonailized metal throughout our kitchens. We want color and art and drapes without layered ruffles.

"Modern farmhouse" is the tackiest decor trend since the 90s when we put up wallpaper borders in every room. Everyone is decorating their condos and townhomes like some strange, fantasy version of rural. What confuses me the most is that there are so many rustic details from ACTUAL farmsteads/country cottages that are totally ignored? Instead it's all grey shiplap, weird barn doors and the same 3 light fixtures over and over.

Rustic nouveau! That’s as close to my style as anything I’ve seen. The house we are building has a stone fireplace, lots of wood, granite and earth-colored tiles. I love creamy neutrals and we’ve just ordered a moss-colored couch and two mushroom swivel chairs. I will have to let me son know my style is “rustic nouveau,” because he’s been calling it “obnoxious modern hippie.” 🤣

I have not enjoyed the farmhouse look very much at all. I started to go in that vein and hated it immediately. Bring on the greens and the browns! Rustic nouveau is much like desert modern. Love it! I've done my loft space in it. Not a fan of royal core, but Paris in spring, with grey, light pink and white, and some classic vintage pieces can make you want to go take a walk around the Eiffel tower. Living walls are cool, but I'd be leaving it to the pros. It seems like there would be a high fail rate in the inexperienced trying to pull it off. For now, I'm enjoying my new swanky texturized ceilings. Is swanky still a word?

My thoughts on Royalcore: I would say the more romantic a style is, the more you have to pay attention to valuable, natural materials. All the patterns, flourishes and ruffles look so cheesy (like they got lost in a toy department) with fabrics like polyester and cheap varnish. But I also have hope: I think you can certainly create amazing rooms with simple wooden floors, a few beautifully cut antiques and cotton fabrics like Toile de Jouy.

Fun fact.. postmodern isn't just in art and design and architecture.. these are all influenced by what is called postmodern philosophy. Postmodern philosophy was very big in the 60s through 90s so it's very fitting that the style of furniture that was popular is reflected there. And how ironic that we are now seeing a heavy resurgence in postmodern thought through our culture and political realm in addition to this furniture and design Style
@andreja94252 жыл бұрын
I think some of us are in post post modern (idk what else to call it) where we’re looking for a bit more sincerity and truth again. I still think some of the nihilism of post modern thought is important and I think this search needs to be informed by that but I think it’s time to move forward and find meaning and reason again. Our planet needs us to start caring about it in order to save it instead of being so ironically detached and despondent to even put in the effort. It’s kind of an ego death scenario where post modernism was an important break away from history and convention (the ego) and destroy these things in order to rebuild ourselves in the divine image and seek true existence again.
@laurenhb25002 жыл бұрын
@@andreja9425 do you mean reason truth and sincerity in the subjective way or the objective way? In your mind do we need to be heading towards one or the other? And forgive me for asking if this is too bold but what you're saying seems to be a bit gnostic don't you think? Some might say we've had enough religions trying to take over culture and thought. Also, I tend to disagree with most of the postmodernist other than the fact that they predicted that their own thoughts could become a metanarrative .. and not a good one.

Thanks for introducing me to royalcore. Sounds right up my alley. Everything I love is from ancient times up until about the 1930's. Maybe a little 40's. Anything after that is too modern for me (I like to learn about all different types of design, though--even styles that are not something I would want to live in). And I absolutely love castles & Victorian & Gothic houses (and furniture that would fit into them). But the problem is exactly what you said--the price!
@mirabellegoldapfel62562 жыл бұрын
Same here, never heard about royal core- but I love old furniture and everything. I have a castle near me that has napoleonic complete furniture still inside, and omg SILK wallpapers. Handcrafted cupboards with delicate inlays, chinoiserie rooms.. love it. Parts of it, like going for a gorgeous silk brocade pillow or an antique jewelry box from ebay are totally doable. But it has to be real, quality material and produced by a real craftsperson , and not mass produced. Or else it is Disneylandroyalcore.

Royal core is just another name for traditional or antique.
@dawnguinto2 жыл бұрын
Another thing about royal core(or any era specific trends/aesthetics) that's hard to pull off that Arvin forgot is location and consistency. It wouldn't make sense to have royal gold and gilded furniture in a suburban home or a cookie cutter apartment or a shoebox condo which admittedly a lot of us live in. If you're gonna do this style and commit to it I reckon you should buy an old victorian house or be in an apartment that' got history. Whether it be from the 1700s or 1800s. If you can't afford to live in such a place the best thing we can do is add small touches of it in our home. Whether it be an intricate candelabra, or small candle holders, lamps, an ornate frame for art/mirrors that's been thrifted, expensive linen, velvets, satin, silk, fabrics with golden thread details, whether it be a pattern or tassles, and tapestries. I suggest utilizing decorative touches such as the things stated above than actual furniture pieces (beds, sofas, tables) accent chairs could potentially work and credenzas too but be careful with it. That's it. Appreciating beautiful design from different time periods can be tricky but it's extremely gratifying if done correctly.

I make farmhouse styled furniture as a side gig to pay for my woodworking hobby- I've noticed more that customers are wanting more neutral earth tones, off white with dark colored counter/table tops. I sell a lot of rehabbed chairs that I replace the seats on, and just use pine stained with verathane Kona (coffee) color stain- very popular, sell lots of these at the local farmer's market. One of my friends teaches interior design at the local community college....every now and again she'll sew up a few seat cushions for me and we'll sell lawn furniture made from 2x4's like gangbusters, haha. I do a few modern look things too.....but I live in the farm belt....so farmhouse is really popular here. Great tip on the Royalcore...... I just picked up a yard sale armoir that I'm scratching my head what direction to go. Keep it real homie!!!

the Brown Colour Palette can be taken from French Cave Paintings, the Ocres, the Browns, the tans, the beiges, the russet and rusty reds, deep rich earth tones paired with mossy and fern greens, more natural metals, iron, copper, bronze, matte steel, no more brassy golds and chromes, Simply Return to the Earth for Your Decor

I was just thinking the painting behind him reminded me of French cave paintings, even if it's only by association rather than being a replica.

I’m moving on my own…. Separating from my husband and got a cute studio apartment…. I just found this channel bc I want to find design ideas….loving this channel!! Getting some ideas… I am a simple person and more of a realist. So not sure what I will be doing or how I’ll be decorating….

I’m with you on the nature colors. My fall/winter capsule wardrobe was browns, creams and earthy reds with earthy greens as a complimentary colors and I was like, ‘I want more of this.’ So I’m revamping my room to be more earthy and elevated.
