A treeman stack is powerful, a skaven artillery wall is insane. But honestly with both of those you sit there and wait for the battle to end. This stack is definitely not as good, but to me it looks far more engaging. It's the difference between watching total War, and playing. And Horse sandwiches are the best.

As for wizards in it, I think it could be beneficial, archaon with fire cloak, and fire blades, a shadows wizard with miasma and mindrazor, and a death caster with doom and darkness. Cast right that's something like +30-40 MA, MD and like almost 100% increased weapon damages which stack with apocalyptic charge bonuses. It's completely unnecessary as well which to me makes it even better but seeing a unit of lances karate chop two units of grails or demis, satisfaction.

I remember how CA hyped up the chaos Knights with lances as the "ultimate" unit in the game aside from terrorgeists in streams before the first game launched. Either they trolled us or they had no idea what they were talking about.

@@mcmarkmarkson7115 Both yes and no. Stat wise they were the best cav in the game when the game came out, just like the chosen was the best infantry. But like the Chosen it was an obscene price and upkeep for them in the campaign, and you could get access to much better units. But unlike the chosen you didn't get them before MUCH later and it required its own building as well. Which was time and resources better spent on other buildings. Not to mention that shock cav isn't THAT good on higher difficulties. In multiplayer it was kinda the same story. It was the most powerful cav unit, but they were so expensive it wasn't worth the money most of the time.

Yeah but the point of reference he used was the great stag knight stack which was a 6/10, so since this is better than that, a 7/10 is certainly called for, I think it's definitely close enough to 7 to be there, and with a wizard maybe it'd be an 8, but I don't really think it'd be an 8 then, mainly cause with Shaggoths if you cast a spell on them, they just don't care, for Chaos Knights they'd take more damage from spells. So would that be potentially make it so that a wizard isn't worth a full point, possibly. But I do think this is a viable army for people with good micro, but only really with Archaon at the helm, anyone else, not so much. And Shaggoths are still better.

@@grade14 That is certainly true, but burning head would also do even less damage to shaggoths due to them being single entities. But yes so long as the enemy has noticeably lower armor, burning head would be ok to use. It'd be more of a problem with going up against units with high armor, because then burning head would be less effective and so you might consider using another spell with high ap damage. That said, if you can get situations like in the video where the AI is crowding around your heroes and such, keeping your knights away from the blob and casting flame storm would work rather well.

I think you should also rate the stacks according to how fun they are to play. Because yes, Shaggots will easily smash almost any non-doomstack army, but using them gets tedious after a while, since every battle will be exactly the same. Same with any other single entity stack. But this cavalry stack is strong enough to win most conceivable battles AND forces you to use your brain while playing, making it much more fun.

The idea of a CAV doomstack in twwarhammer reminds me of the family guy skit where the wheelchair cop and wheelchair fbi agent get outranked by a crossing guard who has working legs. It might work okay, but it still gets outranked by anything that isn't cavalry.

Add a shadow wizard + Archaon being leveled up into spellcasting, overcasted mindrazer and flaming sword of ruin on your blob and you have chaos knights with 150 weapon strength which is quite nice. It's not the most efficient army in the world but it really does become a bore spamming shaggoth stacks

big units in the forest are at a severe disadvantage which is nice when the enemy has like 80% horses, but not so great when you have the horses XD the empire brought a knight stack against my beastmen in one battle, I just corner-camped in the forest and easily endured

First look first thing we see is if you were a commander choosing a battlefield whets to your advantage as a Cavalry Regiment? Artillery its open lines of sight same for guns.. trees are the antithesis of a charge. breaking up formations loosing breakthrough routes to exploit for targets to the rear. hurts cohesion when units get stuck behind.

What is the exact assembly for the skryre army you would call the best? (currently going with plague lord, three plague priests, 6 ratlings, 4 jezzails, 4 plaque claw and two poison wind mortars) In the beginning of an army I'm using a high level engineer to compensate the lack of frontline with even more firepower until the plague guys got their vermintide

Legend's best stack has 4 priests, 2 warlock engineers, and only 4 ratlings and 1 mortar. Otherwise it's the same as yours.

Chaos knight and cavalry in general need either vsLarge or vsInfantry, it won't make then OP but it help.

Chaos knights with lances already have an anti-infantry bonus. They just need a higher charge bonus. I think chaos knights with swords are completely inferior compared to the lance version since you are not supposed to be using cavalry as melee infantry in warhammer, and the lances have a charge bonus, if you test it out the swords take more casualties while cycle charging than the lances because of a lower charge bonus. Cavalry were strong in previous total wars, a single charge from heavy cavalry at a high-tier heavy infantry unit, and you can obliterate 100% of the infantry unit in 5 seconds with 0-2 losses. In warhammer 2 "heavy cavalry" is more like melee cavalry and they are more useful for chasing ranged infantry than for dealing with melee infantry.

Cavalry in previous Total Wars was kinda OP, and here it's useless, it would be nice if they were balanced atleast. Instead of just favouring single entities which I know they wanna do cause monsters are cool it would be nice if human units would still be usefull for something.

@@grimreaper492 nope, chaos knight and 90% of anti-inf cavalry DOES NOT have bonus vs infantry. What make them anti-inf is their huge charge bonus which can be abuse by cycle charge. Want to fix cavalry? Give them collision damage like chariots and they will kick ass.

Cavalry already has collision damage but the reason total war attila had strong cavalry is because there Saxon lancers had 245 charge bonus, which wasn't even strong for cavalry in total war attila. In Medieval 2 they were OP basically. Right now I don't need chaos knights because dragon ogre shaggoths make for better cavalry lol.

Totally agree with you, it is a LOT more micro intensive. It doesn't make it weaker, but harder to play with. Shaggoths just need 1 click to attack all together and GG. btw, I even love chaos knights, good looking unit and nice performance for a cavalry.

no and yes. because there's some space beetween the units they get a bit of advantage 2 v1 but it becomes diminishing returns quiet quickly at 3v1 or 4v1 (attacking at same side).

Not completely sure what you're asking, but you might be asking about Alt + left drag (can then also use Ctrl to change facing). I only learned that from Legend, and now I can't play any of the older Total Wars because they don't have it.

Shock cavalry is pretty damn good on normal or even hard, assuming you can micro it well enough. Having 2 units per army is quite nice, fun, and even fairly practical imo (depending on their quality and synergy with the rest of the army though, obviously).

There’s no actual downside but they can cause units to do weird things at least in my experience

It's mostly a matter of personal preference. It's easier unit management, but when they start getting jumbled up in the fight, it can get a bit awkward to sort out. As noted, depending on whether you lock the control groups or not, when just moving around the map, their formations can be a pain (as they just line up one unit deep no matter what), so clicking to attack is sometimes better, but it does depend on the unit itself (monster vs infantry etc.).

Depends on the scale of the units. They were probably playing in ultra large so single entity units get extra XP to compensate the extra units in the battlefield

I would give it 5 out of ten - first of all putting more then one hero of each type in an army as chaos is impossible - you have one cap per horde and even then it has to build 2 buildings for them. And you really want exalted heroes spying on campaign map to not get yourself in some deep shit. So this army is WAY worse then Shagoth spam.
