As a Greek, we often got messages from the government giving us tips on how to stay safe during the pandemic (around 2020-2021). So I was sitting in my living room calmly, texting my friends. My cousins, siblings and parents were outside and they had left their phones on the table in front of me. Keep in mind it was 3am, pitch black. That exact alarm started playing on all of our phones at the same time, on full volume. I almost had a heart attack. Never went to the living room by myself ever again.

True. The US hasn't changed their EAS base sound since the 60s because it is an early automated system. It was "modernized" in the 80s but still automated. Each sound and duration is machine encoded for the type, area, and scope of emergency.

Visited Greece with my now Wife back in 14’. I remember checking into our hotel on the first day the front desk warned us they were doing emergency drills to help inform tourists what to do incase one happened. An hour later I wake from a nap to that alarm, I swore I was going to die right then and there. I haven’t been the same since.
