A good tip for preparing the chicken in the meals so it isn't soggy is to air fry it separately and follow the microwave direction for the rest of the meal

I also remember back in the day when these came in the aluminum tray with the aluminum foil over top - the trick to these is that if you've got the time make them in the regular oven. I personally like the Hungry Man salisbury steak, fried chicken and the meatloaf myself but just about all of them are good enough if ya just don't feel like cooking with maybe a little salad on the side. These were a lifesaver for the wife and I when we had Covid and didn't have a big appetite or the strength to cook a regular meal - plus no dishes to have to clean up afterwards. So sorry for the loss of your dog, we've had to have several put to sleep in the 40+ years we've been married and it's truly heartbreaking. This sounds cold hearted but we've found that getting another dog is the quickest way to get over the loss, we try to find dogs that have been abused or have otherwise just had a hard life and need a good, loving home - unfortunately there are plenty of dogs like that out there so they're not hard to find - we've even taken in strays that were living/abandoned on the street! At our local grocery store, these dinners range from $4.99 to $5.99. More than I like to pay. I will buy them if they go on sale. Our go to choice is the Hungry-Man Roasted Carved White Meat Turkey Frozen Dinner. It contains white meat turkey with gravy, seasoned stuffing (which is basically dry croutons that get softened when the gravy heats up), mashed potatoes and mixed vegetable. This one has an an apple/cranberry dessert. We choose this because it's lower in calories although the sodium in all these dinners is through the roof. We do add a pat of butter to the vegetables, and also to the mashed potatoes. I always use the oven...much better than microwaving to me. Wish they would get rid of the brownies in these meals and go with either the apple dessert, or the apple/cranberry dessert.

With respect: 1.) The vast majority of people have neither the time nor desire to cook a frozen meal in the oven, 2.) Even though most of these highly processed frozen meals are sodium bombs, they still all somehow end up tasting so bland that you can’t help but to have to add S&P, sometimes even butter. It’s why I cut frozen meals out of my diet several years ago. Not worth the time, or the cost to my wallet and my health.

I had no idea they stopped calling them tv dinners! I don’t remember an apple dessert, but I do remember a cherry or raspberry dessert that I could never eat. The brownies are not good, but I will scarf them down every time!

A lot of the meals still have the apple dessert, Sharon could only find the ones with the brownie though. I know that there are beef and chicken dishes with the apple dessert and I believe the Turkey comes with a cherry dessert. They honestly destroy the brownie but they're only in 20-25% of the dinners.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my first cat in 2007 at the age of 17. I had him for 16 years. I'm hoping that my first cat, helped your fur baby cross over the rainbow bridge. I hope that you can take your name to heart - you'll be fine. It will take a long time, but soon you will just remember with a smile and not as many tears. They will still come, but it won't hurt maybe quite as much. I still feel that for my past furbabies and for my parents. Thank you for doing this video. Howdy from Texas! I have to tell you that unfortunately being disabled leaves me some days with zero energy and it literally hurts just to stand up for more than five minutes. I don't use a microwave because of my pacemaker. So I just use my large toaster oven to make TV dinners on those days when I just can't stand up long enough to make my own food. So I've eaten several of these types of TV dinners. And I have to say that at least, between Hungry Man ( at around $3.60 each) and Banquet brand TV dinners ( at around $160 ) each. There is very little difference in quality of the food and though the portions are a little less in the cheaper Banquet brand. It's not so much of a difference that I find it worth paying double the price for the more expensive Hungry Man brand. As you may well imagine. Being a retired Chef here in Texas. Having to dumb my taste buds down low enough to eat a TV dinner. Probably wouldn't have been even possible had I not grew up eating them quite often. Sad to say but even back then they were far better than whatever my mother could possibly Cook. I guess because I needed to learn to cook at a very young age. I developed a love for food. No turkey t.v. dinner? (Maybe they were out of stock.) An overstock of actual turkeys is where the concept of these dinners came from. Back when I was a kid in the late 60's and early 70's, when my mother deviated from the usual, the turkey dinner was exotic and delicious and REAL turkey. Thanks for throwing in the historical reference about the aluminum containers they came in.

Grew up with TV dinners... always liked the Salsbury Steak ones. Slways hot on the outside and frozen in the middle mashed potatoes. Covered in foil in the oven. Yes... used to have the sliced apples in cinnamon. Yes.. microwaves changes the texture of brownies... or any bread. My sincere sympathy for your loss. My 2 fur babies have been gone for four years, just 6 months apart from each other. I haven't been able to get another yet as I can't stand the thought of losing another. It's just so hard. I think it might've been slightly easier if they passed away naturally, but due to severe health problems I was forced to put them down. I never want to have to do that again. I've recently considered fostering dogs instead of owning. I can relish them while I have them, rejoice in knowing they're going to loving homes, and not face the horrible pain of having to put them down if medically necessary. 😢

When the meal comes with corn I always mix it into potatoes,it helps mask the instant potato taste
