All the celebs were on theme with Gilded Glamor. Why? Cause the gilded age was defined by the lavish spending of the noveau rich while the rest of us peasants suffered from poverty etc. They hosting lavish balls and wear ridiculously expensive stuff, worrying about if they are making the list of America's top families. Sound familiar? Yep exactly the met gala with all these expensive outfits (I would say the Kardashians define this perfectly) while us peasants out here are suffering due to this economy. On other notes, there was a lot of missed potential for the gilded glamour theme and the age period itself. Some went basic with the gold and called it good. Some entirely dismissed it and wore jeans etc (pay for a $35k invitation to show up in jeans? Epitome of gilded age spending there). Some did their homework and came and slayed. What we can agree though is this year wasn't that great because these outfits look like outfits you can find at any red carpet event, movie premier, etc. There was not much unique outfits that you'd put in a museum and look back at it and say, "Wow, that really deserves its place here on the podium." Kinda like Rihanna's (is that her name?) Yellow empress dress, now that was a masterpiece you'd wanna put in a museum.

Gigis outfit was on theme- remember, there can be many interpretations of the theme, or else it would be boring if everyone just wore corsets… for example how cardi was literally gilded in gold, she made it modern- instead of just wearing the clothes from that time, she took the VALUES and ideals BEHIND the clothing, and applied them to modern day… the ideals of over the top, showing off wealth, etc, back then was expressed with the hoop skirts and corsets, etc, but now it may be a bunch of gold chains and diamonds… and Gigis could fit in terms of that same concept- I haven’t watched any of her interviews on her look but that coat thingie is very regal, it could be like taking the concept of showing off over the top wealth

it means looks derived from the gilded age, or the 1870s to 1910s fashion which includes lots of bustles, corsets, and lavish accessories!
