The fire belly toad enclosure is mine! Yes the plants are all real, and they all grow... well, like weeds. I have to trim the thing constantly. I think you were talking about the ficus in the top left corner when you were wondering if there are fake plants, but nope, its just a very, very happy plant. That's a ledge up there, and there's always at least one frog hiding in the leaves. There are a bunch of fish in there too. Espei rasboras, celestial pearl danios, daisy rice fish, and a pair of honey gouramis. I have a bunch of other enclosures, but this is by far my most successful. Its right next to the couch, and one of my favorite things to do is just sit and watch it. The fish are super active, and the frogs are adorable. Thanks for the high rating, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@muurrarium94602 жыл бұрын
The only one that really stood out as "this is a great looking one". (a bit small for the gourami's I'd say, we like to keep them in a 80x40x40 cm aquarium minimal as a couple/trio, the espei are too much of a swimmer to be happy in this tiny a pool-area) But I loved the picture, gorgeous tank!
@ryanwoods7512 жыл бұрын
@@muurrarium9460 The water feature is a lot bigger than it looks in the photo- its the entire bottom half of the tank. There's a lot of cover and places to hide, and I haven't noticed any aggression at all from any of the fish. If the water feature was just in the front of the tank I would totally agree with you- that would be far too small for the fish I have. I'm a big fan of giving animals way more space than the minimum, so I'm careful not to overstock
@muurrarium94602 жыл бұрын

Some cool herp homes; I love that fire toad enclosure, so beautiful!. I made the 'trees' on either side of the Chapala garter tank out of PVC pipes covered in cocofibre mat and then bark. The tubing for the intake and outflow plumbing for the filtration runs through the tubes so they stay hidden. The fake plants up high are only there until the ivy and pothos on the ground level establish and make their way up. Great video!

Question! How do you deep clean the water area if something like algae were to grow? I love this enclosure but I worry about the time commitment to maintenance! (I am disabled so I have to be careful about that kind of thing.)
@AllCanadianReptileGirl2 жыл бұрын
@@r.nicogorodetzky3084 I just use a scraper to clean the algae and a gravel vacuum to suck up gunk from the bottom when it's time for a water change/filter clean. You could also use some algae eaters to help keep the algae under control. I would avoid algae eating fish in case the garters try to eat it (some have spines and some fish are toxic to garters). There are many species of tiny shrimp that eat algae and would be a safer option.

The enclosure is screen, but has a tarp attached with magnets for humidity, the size is actually 120 gallon or 2x2x4(Ft) the plants are a mixture of real and fake to fill out the space as the real ones to grow out. I have a substrate bucket containing plants in bioactive soil, the remaining floor space has sphagmum moss for extra humidity

I cork titled the back and used coconut husk and tree fern on the sides and a large piece of wood adhered across the sides with plant pots for the various plants. It is also bio-active, so I got some Powder Orange Isopods in there too :D

@@WickensWickedReptiles and don't be afraid to be harsh! Roast them if they are roastworthy! or just make fun of the aesthetic choices, cause thats all subjective right. I mean, this time all the enclosures ranged from "pretty good" to "beautiful" .. not really much to roast in that lot. try and throw in some that are "questionable" for teaching moments, and some that are downright ridiculous for laughing moments. honestly these "rate/roast my x" do really well on most of the channels I see, and jebus knows reptile peeps ALWAYS want to show off their enclosures. @kerseykrewzoo2 жыл бұрын
I know you can get PVC sheets from home improvement stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. I'm pretty sure any pvc is okay to use, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also, pvc comes in different thicknesses so be sure you research which would be best for your animal. 🤘🏻☺️
@jph2902 жыл бұрын
You can totally DIY a PVC. These PVC enclosures you see are just a little fancier as they may have been CNC for holes. It is expanded PVC (Think like a dense foam). I'm not aware of it being any special kind of PVC for pets. They use this stuff for signs.
@eddominates2 жыл бұрын
yes, you just have to be kinda careful with heat elements cause it will melt. but usually if you go PVC its cause you're making a large enclosure so its not such an issue

Enclosure wise, the uk usually has melamine (sealed wood) or glass, with the glass being insanely expensive and often collection only, which makes it less accessible. PVC isn’t as available/if at all, from what I’ve seen its £600+ for a 4x2x2 pvc as opposed to £200 for a melamine equivalent. Plus, it can get incredibly cold suddenly so the melamine vivs conserve the heat much more efficiently than glass, so maybe the second enclosure is in a similar environment? I have a melamine viv for my ball python and am looking to upgrade her to a pvc with uvb (she’s a rehome) once she’s settled in edit:spelling
