@giovannifitzpatrick19875 ай бұрын
True, but before (and after) people like Hogan, Bischoff, and Nash and Hall arrived, their costs via salaries and production was a fraction of what AEW is doing. TNA shit nearly all of their shows at Universal Studios, while AEW is booking 8-20k seat arenas and filling up only a 1/3 of those seats. TNA by and large had one major overpriced contract, and that was Hogan, while AEW has around 7 wrestlers who immediately come to mind with contracts that size (Jericho, Danielson, MJF, Mercedes, Okada, Ospreay, Moxley), with even mid-carders like Riho getting $400k a year. Simply put, TNA could stick around for that long because it didn't cost them a lot of money to produce the product (and even they eventually ran out of money and needed Billy Corgan to step in). Tony Khan has a lot more money, and Warner Brothers-Discovery is paying more than Spike TV and other networks did for TNA, but no company is going togive AEW a big deal if you have the dual issues of high costs (salaries and production) and low revenues (look at the ratings, attendance numbers, lack of video game sales). No company is going to feel confident with those factors at play, because they have to depend on Tony constantly injecting money, and there's no guarantee a pet project like AEW is sustainable, even with Tony Khan and/or Shad Khan being billionaires.

Aew has so many problem creatively and has no direction whatsoever. 1. They have the Young Bucks and Jack Perry be the main focus of the show, which many people don’t care about them. Young Bucks are the AEW tag team champion and are not building the tag team division at all. 2. They have so many belts. They have 3 secondary titles (TNT, International, Continental). Alongside with the FTW, the Trios Title, and now the IWGP championship being defended on AEW. Each of those titles that I have mentioned are top talents holding them or in a program with one of the titles (Adam Copeland, Okada, Ospreay, Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Jay White). Literally, all 6 of those talents can be fighting for the top spots and be believable challengers for Swerve AEW champion. Instead, Tony Khan has them walking around with meaningless titles that they have to defend against lower-midcard talents that nobody cares about because Tony Khan doesn’t bother giving any effort of building storylines and character development for the midcard. Both the NHL and NBA are getting big ratings boosts this year compared to last years 2023 playoffs. Its tough for wrestling to have to compete with pro sports and Raw will struggle again once NFL starts in September. AEW though do have a problem with younger audiences in that 18-34 demo because those viewers have shorter attention spans so if they dont see anything compelling to keep them watching they will turn the channel rather quickly. AEW needs better storytelling in their feuds, They do have stories but the way they tell them doesnt resonate with the younger audiences in particular.

TNA had nowhere near the financial backing that AEW does. If it did history might be different right now.
@kevinlee99295 ай бұрын
@ProfessionalAccount-zj7me It's a strong chance that AEW wouldn't exist right now. As TNA would likely be a strong #2 promotion. Also a number of people probably never leave TNA for WWE (Like AJ Styles).

The audience is extremely aware of the Bucks behaivor behind the scenes. The Bucks, Jack Perry and Tony have go away heat. The elite should stay off tv and focus on Swerve. They also have the NWJP championship on Jon Moxley right now. How has Jon not been put into a PPV Match with Swerve the AEW champion. its a no brainer. That would be a match worth building up to. even if it ends in a DQ. it would be a spectical.

Many people said you can't have a successful wrestling promotion and the young ducks, it is an oxymoron. The elite are only elite in their own minds.

The problem is simply that WWE is simply better than AEW right now and has been for the past year. AEW ran on great matches with storylines ranging from mid to a few great stories. Vince WWE had low in ring action with mid to poor storylines not to mention bad booking decisions. That’s why AEW was better than WWE in its early years. But since Triple H took over, WWE has the great in ring work with great storylines. AEWs doing nothing wrong it’s not like they are not trying. They got major storylines and great in ring workers and the PPVs are always fantastic, but it’s simply not enough to catch up with WWE. At this point unless Triple H pulls a Vince and makes some dumb booking decision WWE is just gonna win the ratings by default.

Why do people think that the leftover NBA money will go to AEW? WBD is also struggling financially so losing the NBA may be a breaking point type thing.

A big part of the NBA playoffs detracting from overall viewship is these playoffs are widely considered to be some of the best playoffs in years. A new teams guaranteed to win it all and not your normal giant market teams advancing to the conference finals. Not defending either company's product, AEW is plain hard to watch most of the time and Raw has good moments but is pretty hit or miss since Wrestlemania too.
@tomhavenith23305 ай бұрын
I think it's a structural problem. The problem lies in the formula. In my opinion in a 2h show there is a place for one long 'PPV-style' match. The rest should be short matches and story segments. Right now we get two or even three long matches. But they aren't embedded in good storylines. That may be what a lot of people want, but my wife and I are considering canceling our AEW-abo on fite TV because there aren't enough good stories to keep us invested. On a weekly show there is place for short 'mismatches' where two characters of different kayfabe powerlevels have a go. There can be a nice hope spot somewhere to keep room for an upset open, but not every match needs to go 20 minutes with 3 false finishes.

Can pro wrestling please go exclusively to streaming services just so I never have to hear wrestling podcasters pontificating about TV ratings ever again?

It doesn't matter what WWE ratings are ever again. They can all try to say otherwise. But, WWE going to be fully on Netflix in a few years and you'll never even know how many people are watching. So, hang in there. Ha.

It turns out that giving a trio of ratings killers who are not credible as tough guys the central role in a major angle and tons of TV time in order to spite a guy who doesn't work there anymore is a bad idea.

But is the tv ratings - only based on a certain handful of people? I don’t think it factors in a lot of things. If 1 of every 1000 person is being accounted for

As a fan of AEW since the beginning I feel the company was never the same after brawl out. Tony just sat there while Punk pretty much buried his friends he looked pathetic. The sad part is Tony isn't learning I don't think he's taking it seriously his booking sucks. If AEW dies I will just quit watching wrestling again no biggie. I still don't understand the praise for HHH era of WWE there's nothing special about it. It's still PG cringe WWE for me hasn't been worth watching since the Ruthless Aggression era.

AEW shows are hit and miss. Most of the time, TK will booked something that is nonsensical, just thrown together. Sometimes he will give out free big matches that should've been saved for the ppv. Most of the times, when TK had something that has momentum, he ended up finding a way to screw it up.

This is so annoying because I've been watching AEW from the start, it's fallen off so hard in the past year-ish and the fanbase is eating itself. There's no room for discourse or constructive feedback which is the BIGGEST THING that WWE and it's fanbase allow. Could you imagine if when Rock took Cody's spot, the fans said to stop complaining, just enjoy wrestling, stop being negative, nothing is wrong? That's what's been happening with all the missteps AEW has been making for a while now.
@geoffa875 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I don't see AEW getting much of an increase, if any at all, and certainly not the increase they're wanting. Fact of the matter is that they've run off about 1/3rd of their audience in the last year. WBD may say they're happy, but fact of the matter is they're a business, and they depend on advertising for their revenue. More viewers = more ad revenue.

The Bucks and Jack Perry look like 14 year olds who cut up their mom's wig and then superglued it to their faces. Okada looks like a Cody superfan doing cosplay of his hero. The Elite honestly think they are a nWo/d-X hybrid but make the Job Squad look like The Avengers.

I don’t see The Bucks’ existence as an insult to the wrestling business as a lot of people do. I think they’re capable of having good matches and being entertaining. But they are not the stars and draws that they think they are and what Tony thinks they are. If AEW is trying to do their version of an NWO storyline, they are NOT fit for that role at all. At this point, I’m just waiting for MJF to come back because he’s probably the only person I care about on AEW’s roster currently.

When you show the people that you're a DB behind the curtain, they will never get behind you. People do care how you treat other people..Whenever you do or say something out of line, that sticks with you. Even Hulk Hogan had to sit down for awhile
