The water is two materials moving in opposite directions (Materials being a combined collection of textures and other garbage I won't explain). This is a very common and performant technique but at the time of counter strike 1.6 was not common knowledge and systems were extremely limited on memory so adding more textures wasn't a great idea but fast forward a few years we got the memory and surprisingly the engine doesn't mind dealing with more textures. The reflections I'm not as clear on but if I was to guess They placed A reflection probe to take a spherical image of the space and do it on repeat to keep reflections consistent so in laymen terms its a picture of the room flipped over then distorted so much by water textures it looks good enough. Hope this explanation helps as you said you genuinely don't know how this works and seemed to have an interest in the subject

Unfortunately that's not really accurate, although it does use the same normal map texture 4 times translated in different directions at different speeds. The water is done by hzqst by using a simple refraction + reflection w/ fresnel shader. No official version of GoldSrc supports this kind of material. The reflection is done by essentially rendering the whole scene again from the appropriate view angle and then drawing it on top of the water surface.

Damn, if you haven't played any of those games yet, you're severely missing out. I'd highly recommend the Half-Life games in particular, especially nowadays, since they've all been updated recently due to last year being HL1's 25th birthday and this year being HL2's 20th, and as of me writing this comment the entire series is on sale for really cheap due to the Steam Winter Sale. You can max them out on basically any modern PC and get good performance out of them because they're so old, so yeah, highly recommend. They're fantastic games.

Capture the Intelligence is really cool, but I genuinely wish that it was a 3D, near complete TF2 experience. Like it can still have the charm, and similar over-all gameplayer. But I really wish that it was set in the classic TF2 maps, where you actually have to play the game while both hiding and running from the monsterous versions of the characters, and also capturing the Intel like in the base game. Plus the video at the start of that section of the video, where its an eerily dark 2Fort (11:45) just has a horror vibe that I cannot describe. Although the 2D Capture is still really cool!

Actually played CKF2 back in the days. We have maps like 2fort and some are unique and made for the CKF2. Also, the game has the inventory system just like TF2, you can get weapons and hats by buying them from the devs(very cheap also supporting the devs) or from the drop system which is rare. And we have some bizarre weapons that were made by the devs. One of them I remembered is that the Heavy's main weapon gets replaced by Plasma Caster from FalloutNV, it shoots slow green plasma projectile but higher damage per shot. and I think the Sniper has a main weapon replaced by a Kar98 with no scope? And all sorts of early TF2 weapons are made into the game like the Ambassador or Force of Nature. Since it's a decade ago not much I can remember but it surely is a very fun time. Shout out to the two devs who originally made this mod. @hzqst and @goodman3.

@@vps31 that one mod for a VR game, a tf2 port that was being made in s&box (which was going to be cancelled by the devs anyway but still), and I think there was another one but I don't remember. There was also the TF2 Classic and Open Fortress cases where Valve asked them to shutdown while they worked out some legal stuff and then Valve just ghosted them.
