I like the way you go about it. I just started building my 1st rat rod myself. 1928 Ford Tudor. I'm not using steel that heavy. My frame is made from 1/8" 2X3 square tubing. The original frame is 1/8" and not fully boxed. It has lasted 90 years. I figure fully boxed 2X3 tubing is plenty. Much lighter and easier to work with.

A good design utilizing triangulation and gusseting lets us use the lightest materials possible for a competition cars. this guys building a rat rod. stuff like weight doesn't really matter much.

I don't know what you have planed for steering so just to let you know your front axle is backwards [ steering arm on the right instead of the left ] This could cause a caster problem also.

Yeah that axles just tack welded on to roll. I have a speedway axles kit for it.

Enjoyed the presentation. A tip from the delicate ear crowd; can you try to balance your audio levels better? That 'Country Rock' at 11 on the dial, whilst mixed with your commentary of the build, set at about a 1.5, is annoying to endure. Up-down-up-down... just to save my ear drums! I'm sure you'll figure it out. Looking forwards to seeing the project develop. It's great seeing young fellows get their teeth into these engineer endeavours. Onwards...

If you narrow a Crown Vic front suspension you don't have to widen the cab. I've done several for the local hot rod shop.😊

Awesome vid on the frame build but it leaves me wanting to know how you got that front axle to work ?...Please do a video on the suspension setup .
@bickfordcustoms Жыл бұрын
It’s actually not the front axle I’ll be using. I’m actually thinking on a mustang II instead. Once I get it back in this winter I’ll post more! Thanks for watching
@shepherdcrow9971 Жыл бұрын
LOL well then make a damn video on how you do that !... All said in jest You made a great video @@bickfordcustoms

Sounds good! I’ll get on it!

I could be wrong but isn't your front axle in backwards? Most of those old trucks/cars had fore-and-aft drag links so the steering arm is usually on the driver side knuckle.
@bickfordcustoms Жыл бұрын
You are right it is backwards! Haha. Not the actual axle I’m using so when I rolled it in I just tacked it in place. I’m trying to debate on mustang II or model a axle kit

What kind of material do you recommend

What was the front axle off,,and can you change it to a smaller 5 lug setup.
@bickfordcustoms Жыл бұрын
That one was from my 49 Chevy 3600. I’m but sure they make a kit for it to go 5 lug. If it was a 3100 they do

Does the drag link bar not supposed to go under frame? Or was it meant to be a right hand drive? Maybe it's Camara angle. But looks like it should be turned with drag link under the frame
@bickfordcustoms Жыл бұрын
Axles backward. It’s just for mock up
@jamesferrell9404 Жыл бұрын
@bickfordcustoms oh ok. Sometimes things throw me. So I ask to learn.
@bickfordcustoms Жыл бұрын
Yeah I get it! I just rolled the axle in and decided to weld it up even though it was flipped. Thinking on doing mustang II
@jamesferrell9404 Жыл бұрын
@bickfordcustoms was gonna ask if they was a update. Just watched the one where you built a wood roof for it. But don't see anymore besides that
@bickfordcustoms Жыл бұрын
Yeah we had a few other projects come up. But I will be back on it when the snow flies. Hopefully once I build my new shop I’ll have more room to leave all the projects in a certain bay til done.

why the music ? its j ust fu&^ng noise
@bickfordcustoms Жыл бұрын
Just so people don’t have to listen to me just grinding metal and welding at 2x speed
@Toro-Tor Жыл бұрын
@@bickfordcustoms I get that and I appreciate it if people tell something about what they are doing - but the problem is the difference in volume. I'm turning up the volume to be able to hear you and in the next moment my neighbor falls out of bed because of the loud music.
