This build reminds me of a "farm-buggy" my best friend found somewhere. He needed something to use to carry sacks of feed, bales of hay, fence posts/wire and stuff like that around through the pastures without scratching up his pickup. He found a 1954 Pontiac Chieftan that had been seriously chopped down. The body was removed. The firewall with the windshield and front floor and seat was cut loose from the body and left on the chassis. The rear springs were moved up by using the front spring mount as the new rear spring mount and fabricated a new front mount. The rest of the rear frame was cut off behind the old front spring mounts. The engine was the Pontiac straight-8 flathead with a GM Hydromatic transmission. The rear wheels were 9:50 x 16, while the fronts were 6:50 x 14. It had a wood box made out of tongue-and-groove flooring for a cargo bed and used a couple of lengths of chain (one per side) for doors. The driveshaft was about 14 inches long. It had an angle iron frame to hold the radiator with an old set of early 1930s commercial headlights bolted to the frame. It was a blast to drive and would scoot along a lot faster than even us were comfortable with. With a little speed it would skate right over any muddy patches in the pastures, and that old straight-8 had a heck of a lot of torque and would spin the rear tires at any speed when you punched it. I loved the look of that old straight-8 motor out there between the front wheels. The GM Hydromatic was indestructible. We had more fun with that thing. I have no idea how we survived... So, if you happened to run across an old straight-8 out of a Chrysler, Pontiac or Buick, you could use it here... The "Look" is a real killer... Oh yeah, this was in 1965.

Excellent i love it, use what you have and make it work, i like how rapidly it went from just a pondside ornament to maybe something to tour the back roads...it needs a big old diesel engine tho, use a 2nd gearbox as an overdrive unit to up the roadspeed to compensate for the low rpms and massive rear diff, run the thing on all your waste oils.
