I look forward to watching Bob work through the challenges that lay ahead with project rats' nest. 🐀 . You'll get it you just ain't got it yet.

Don't knock the Kindigs, Foose, Ian and others who spend the time to make beautiful cars and trucks. I have customized many cars always striving to make the next one better than the first.

Hello Bob I live in the Great State of Maine. I'm a third generation of boat builders. I have built fiberglass boats all of my life to lobster fish in. To answer your question about heating fiberglass ( No) it will not bend at all you will just set it on fire Your best wat is to make relift cuts in the glass and then reglass the cuts .

Heat will only shrink the resin and not the fiberglass. It might move 1/16 of an inch. You will need to relieve cut and refiberglass Bob. Get some Duraglss and Kitty hair, a full face respirator and tyveck coveralls and a box or latex gloves. I could fiberglass boats. That going to be a sweet one Bob. Can't wait to see it done. If you need any advice feel free to reach out about fiberglass. My dad was a cistom car builder and worked with George Barris and helped buld/ Paint the Munsters Mobile and the Pink panther Cars and a few others. So I learned at an early age from one of the best in the biz.

There is so much to know about fiberglass. Wish I was there to give you some tips, maybe we could chat some time. One of the first things is to make some sort of steel frame to mount your parts to. From there it is fairly straight forwards. Looking forward to the project.

I have some experience in fiberglass, but far from a pro.. but I did deal with body fitment issues on a 73 corvette once. The car had had front and rear collision damage and the guy that did the initial repair slapped it together half ass using parts from about or 4 different years. A friend that had bought the car for a song begged me to have a Crack at it. I found if I made radius cuts in the fiberglass and found ways to clamp/brace it in place then reglassed the cuts, it would stay in place. I used mat and cloth with resin on the back of the panel and chopped mat mixed into duraglass for the outside exposed cuts. This is one of those things where you step back, look at it, then feel it, and use your best judgment.

Hey doesn’t matter which project you did first , I’m just happy there’s two more lined up, I’m sure you already figured out the front fiberglass piece’s I would think a heat gun would soften it up enough to bend it into place, dirty little Rats, awesome looking car , catch you on the next one 😀😀
@2ndshiftaudio30010 ай бұрын
First thing when dealing with fiberglass. Heating it will not help. Plus if it gets to hot. It will crack after you paint it. Causing these spider webs you have probably heard about. When you stress fiberglass these cracks I'm talking about appear. So, relief cut and add mat where you need. NEVER use "cheese cloth" only use mat. Don't cut mat with scissors unless you just have to. Pull it apart in pieces. Makes the edges easier to work. Saves lots of time sanding. Always always use fresh resin. Not home depot or body shop supply resin. Cloudy resin is old. Resin should have a candy clear look to it. Not cloudy or milky looking. Summer is coming. Never mix resin higher than 2%. Kicking resin with more MEKP causes resin to "dry" faster. But, causes it to be very brittle. Stick to the 2% rule with fresh resin. You will thank me later. US Composites will have everything you need. Make sure and get a MEKP squeeze bottle. Makes mixing so much easier. Sorry to be so long winded. But, I've learned so much watching your videos. A chance to help you is very exciting to me. Thanks.

Bob, Perhaps I'm jumping the gun a bit but if you look at the color blue of your tape that's holding up the door (as seen by the camera) you notice it's a beautiful Tourmaline blue. It's very pretty and I know that since you like to antique all your colors so can I easily imagine how gorgeous this car would be in an antique'd Tourmaline blue, with a cream colored (contrasting Navy blue seam piping) rolled & pleated Naugahyde interior. A single bench seat would also be better than a pair of buckets (styled in the theme of those old XK-150 Jaguar sports cars of the '50's). I'm sure you could find a bench seat from the rear seat of a van or even an old pick up truck. ***** One further thing concerning Rats & Mice.. The next time your wrap up your motor, put moth balls/ camphor flakes all around the manifold area just before covering it up with a plastic cover. The rats/ mice won't die but the smell and choking atmosphere of this chemical repulses them enough to decide to nest "elsewhere".

@RatRodBobBuilds no problem! Epoxy doesn't add any extra strength. Pink foam and packing tape make great molds. You can get fiberglass and resin at your local hardware store for doing boat repairs. Mat fiberglass adds a lot of thickness but you should go over mat with cloth for a nice finish. Chip brushes are great for epoxy and they are cheap. Dab the resin on. Don't brush.

Fiberglass will flex but it will not do well with the heat and bend thing. You could do a relief cut, and glass it into position, and fill it with fairing compound.
