Nice acquisition! Pull the suspensions for future small car projects and make a gasser out of the Zephyr!

Div you are going to have to give a lot of love to this Zephyr of yours. Was my first family car and could accommodate our 2 daughters comfortably in their sleeping cots.
@johnbrink22699 ай бұрын
Love the Zephyr. You really have to give it a lot of love. Did many trips Durban to Cape Town with wife and 2 daughters sleeping in their cots on the backseat The boot is enormous and once we loaded all the meat from a cow somewhere in the Karoo in a large cooler box where I’ve had to frequently replace the ice layer.

These car were built for the American market. They were really too big for English roads. Nick named the aeroplane in England. Plenty custom jobs been made of these in the 70s/80s. As a kid in uk they were a monster car. Mk 3 was a big car also.

I used to work on these. In South Africa we had the 2.5 and 3.0 Essex V6 models. We sold the last ones in 1970.

Kind of a neat old car. From info available it could be a 1966 as in: "The Zephyr engine included both straight-4 and straight-6 OHV engines. Production began in 1951 and lasted through to 1966, when it was replaced by Ford's Essex V4 and Essex V6 engines".

And from memory those four speeds used to get sloppy in the linkages a jam themselves in 3rd when you tried to grab 4th , Lol ! Maori s loved em as well

I agree with other comments, it looks like a good body, needs a V6 and some TLC.

They were cool cars in the day. I had one in 1973 and put a 390 W block Ford into it and the 4 speed and diff lasted for three years until I crashed it. Over steer was a problem on winding NZ roads and it caught up to me one too many times. Very popular V8 swap in NZ in the day.

I haven't seen a Mk4 Zedcar in years but there probably wasn't anybody dumb enough to bring one to the US. I used a 4-speed trans from one in a street rod back in the 70's on a SBC, they were stout! It's so rare & oddball today it's probably worth fixing in some form!

@@ratrodsafrica I originated from North London. My dad had one of these cars when I was about 9yrs old. The front suspension collapsed after a few years. That was over 50yrs ago, same colour. I think it had a V4 engine. Well that brought back memories.
