Basic Tips
Stenciling Faces: for a more realistic look, use black fabric, white paint and cut out the flat parts of the face (light hitting cheeks, forehead, etc). For a more cartoonish look, use white fabric, black ink, and cut out the features from the stencils (eyes, nose, mouth, etc)
Make sure glue is fully dry before cutting sometimes stencil will crinkle will cutting, stop. Straighten and go other way
High contrast images with lots of shadows work better if you’re doing human faces
smaller weave of fabric = more detail
Paint that is thin layers , dab off excess;not too watery (ie not super old, or good quality) , and fully dry between layers (hair dryer if needed)
If you don’t have printer, library/work/school; or trace on screen
Dry fabric and no steam when attaching stencil to fabric
(Vinyl stickers also work,
If you screw up u can tape the spot shut and still us the stencil and cut around the tape (tape AFTER ironing the stencil to the fabric, but before applying paint)

I am showing my age, but I used to watch Buffy on tv, as it was airing as a kid. I distinctly remember having "Buffy chats" at recess with one of my buddies. I also have most of season 7 recorded on VHS's, which are at my parents house. I was OBSESSED. I also love the movie, but that's probably because I saw it first as a wee one. I love this so much. This is so much fun! Tip for regular acrylic paint on clothes, mix it with some fabric softener! It works great and makes it more like fabric paint I can talk about Buffy forever! Faith was my favorite, I wanted to be her and make out with her. I loved a lot of the characters in Angel, but the show, had a lot of stumbles. I loved Wesley's character development, especially with Fred and later Illyira, and I'm not crying, you're crying about the last scene with them. It has a ton of iconic lines for me. Ahhh, so many things I could talk about for hours!

I love all of your patch projects. I’m always exited to see what new passion is going to end up on one. It was also really cool to see your progression through each attempt at the b/w printing methods, and honestly I think that has inspired me the most. I think it’s so important how you keep at it and try and fail and try again. As someone who can get caught up and easily discouraged this helps so much! Ps. Have you watched “bring it on”. It has both faith and glory in it. Buffy was my first obsession in elementary and middle school. I use to ask my mom to take me to toy r us in the hopes of finding a Buffy doll, which I don’t think ever existed. It’s fun to see you get into it now. I love how you made all the patches - I don't make a lot because it's very sloppy for me so I usually print and transfer images onto old clothes but seeing this really makes me want to make more patches by hand rather then what I am doing now. I would buy the crap out of this jacket. I'm not super confident in my abilities to create stencils of people, but I'm going to have to try, because this is amazing and I need one in REPO: The Genetic Opera (btw if you haven't seen that, you need to. Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) is one of the main characters AND it's a Goth Opera muscial, and it's probably the best thing ever created.)

She's so much like my own shadow and I guess that's why I've always been so into her. Also I am OBSESSED with Spike and Drusilla. It's interesting that you still don't mind Xander; I didn't until rewatching more recently with awareness of all the allegations against Joss Whedon and it feels a lot more uncomfortable in that context to have that representation of like toxic "nice guy" entitlement and casual misogyny. I really hate the way he talks to Buffy like she needs to change herself to get Riley to stay instead of like... expecting him to take responsibility for his own decisions and to choose Buffy or not based on her being herself. And his treatment of Anya is rough too. There are definitely some great Xander moments and he does serve as a heart of the show in places so I don't fully disagree but it was def more uncomfortable rewatching than when I was a teenager.

Yeah honestly the Whedon stuff is one of the biggest things that taints the character for me ; and I can totally see those criticisms ; they make a lot of sense !! on my first viewing I didn’t know a ton about joss Whedons behaviour/toxicity but as I’ve been on my rewatch finding out he sees himself as like “Xander self insert” is super gross and recontextualizes a lot of stuff :-/ I think one of the big reasons I empathize with Xander is his being human and like, one of the few truly human characters in the show whose strength is his empathy and humanity which felt refreshing to see (since so many times the male hero saves the day through violence or whatever , seeing him save it through love / sacrifice was pretty cool), and then the casual misogyny pops in and it’s like, cmon. And Anya did deserve better but also I relate to her falling for “kind of loser dudes” very much😅) honestly I think all the characters on the show are flawed and that’s what makes them so compelling cause I see like my short comings in him and that sort of stuff , and I think a lot of the casual misogyny feels kind of … part and parcel with shows of that era (not that it makes it ok but it makes it feel less like, extraordinary and more just one of the disappointments of watching older shows) Anyway fuck joss whedon and I totally get why people hate Xander - I have my weird soft spot but I think he’s a interesting character and it’s super unfortunate that joss is like. I love your videos, but watching them sometimes makes me so angry at myself. It's like watching the kind of person I want to be again in the future, the kind of things I want to do with friends and could be doing right and tried too many times now my life just feels like a big loop of boring when I supposed to just be happy I get to be a transgirl at all but that doesn't mean anything to me if I can't do stuff like this with friends and just hang out like what's the point I know I'm nonbinary I know I want to dress like this I have all the tools to do so but still no one ever wants to help me and hang out so it's still me alone just being in to obscure or creepy stuff and clothing and LGBT history which would be infinitely more fun with friends That was my rant about not having alt friends and getting angry at myself for being visibly trans when wearing stuff like this.
