The Mavericks have been my favorite band since 1995, and Raul Malo has been a big influence since then. Raul, alone and with The Mavericks, is a powerhouse. I was shocked by the news of Raul's cancer diagnosis. I was like a kid whose favorite TV show had just been cancelled. But my prayers are with him through it all. I really hope he beats this horrible disease. I know this might sound strange, but Raul has been like a brother to me ever since I discovered him and The Mavericks, although we've never met. I'll keep praying hard for Raul and giving him my full support.

After losing my dad to cancer a few months prior, Raul’s news really hit hard. I began crying because I knew that the journey he was about to embark on, would be emotionally and physically gruelling. So many doctor visits, so many visits to the lab, many CT scans, more chemo sessions, fatigue, medications with very unpleasant side effects nausea, vomiting, more visits to the doctor, changing certain treatments for one reason or another, emotional outbursts and displays of anger. And it upsets me that another person I care about is going through the same painful process my dad went through. Stay strong Raul and remember we all pray for you and we love you and you family❤

I've been a Mavs fan since before the split. Raul has an amazing voice and literally can sing any genre of music. The Mavs as a band are so loved by their fans not only because of their music but also be ause they are soooo fan friendly. Be well Raul. Love and prayers.

Looks like the cancer of the colon was caught early, so I will always pray that he survives the treatment. He WILL survive. You have to believe in yourself to survive cancer. I have survived prostate cancer, endless skin cancer, and an incurable leukemia (HCL), the latter three times. Raul can beat this cancer. Now I know why he cancelled his Sugar Land, Texas, concert. I was looking forward to meeting him again. When I last met him in Louisiana, I was just recovering from my chemo. He was so supportive.

My son had a similar experience, he had the port called a “Hickman”. His incentive was his 3 kids. He suffered greatly everyday but wouldn’t give up to be there for his kids. I spent every day that I could with him in the hospital so I saw first hand what he endured. Never a crybaby, the staff loved him for his courage and kindness. He lost the battle 08/25/22. His courage has given hope and has inspired many to take care of themselves
