I've been following this band since their debut. I love what they've done and was finally able to see them live for the first time in Montreal a few weeks ago. I've never really searched for interviews like this, so it's kind of odd seeing all of them speak in English. I don't speak a word of French. So when I saw them in the crowd in Montreal, I actually considered talking to them but I couldn't bring myself to talk to them in English, so I just didn't.

Great to find this interview. Just recently found this band and fell in love. Buuuuuut when you read "nationalism" as description for lyrical themes you get a bit anxious that it's nazi themes. Seems to be just about a love for Quebec so that's good
@RautaMetal Жыл бұрын
Glad you did! I don't think Quebec nationalism is any way related to nazism, but the fact the country is culturally divided between those from Quebec and those outside Quebec as it's Englsh-speaking vs French-speaking people - but this is very much simplified. I reckon it's the same thing as in Spain with Basque country or Ahvenanmaa (Åland islands) and Finland.
@Kerithanos Жыл бұрын
Of course Quebec nationalism is related to Nazism - any white people who don't hate themselves are Nazis. If you're confused, go talk to Jonathan Greenblatt, I'm sure he'll clear things up for you.

I dig you sarcasm, Keri.

"Quebec wants to separate from the rest of Canada" Sorry guys but this isn't quite true... Some still do but the majority do not. Although the last referendum was only decided by a very narrow margin (51% vs 49%), this was back in 1995. The Bloc Quebecois (Federal political party pushing for independence) has essentially disappeared since and the Parti Quebecois (provincial party pushing for independence) has not held a majority in 20 years as far as I know and aren't predicted to win the upcoming elections in October either. The culture within the province is obviously still very important and this is shown in many ways but not at a point where it seems as though the general population truly feels a need to separate. Cool interview otherwise and great band but this statement is misleading for international fans who may not be familiar with the situation here in Canada.
@SimonH1096 жыл бұрын
This is my take anyway, I'm not a Quebecois myself but have lived there in my childhood and still live within walking distance of the province. Open to hearing other people's views on the matter.

Awesome band. I love the traditionalist and nationalistic themes, but I don't support separatism, at least actual geopolitical separatism. You can be culturally different from different regions of your own country, but that's not a reason to try and make a different country. Big nations were formed for survival, and it helped different cultures to make it to this very day. This is no different now, separate and be conquered by another nation, whether militarily, culturally or economically, and watch your beloved culture die.

Interesting...they say their lyrics can be applied to any culture but what about the indigenous Canadians? Quebec (Canada, North America) is on stolen territory of Native Americans so white Quebec nationalism conflicts with that...
@elnidodelmuerto5 жыл бұрын
Dude thank you for stating the obvious lol. I mean if they do drop some bomb tracks about solidarity with native peoples that would be pretty legit, but yeah I agree with what you are saying. Freedom for quebecois is freedom for white settler colonialists, at least in my opinion.

@@elnidodelmuerto hummm, that is grossly misunderstanding Quebec’s history and culture.
