You can tell that not only did he love all of them, they loved him back each of them. His chaotic, violent brother who picked up his fallen crown and helped him to his throne. His wife, forced by duty to marry him, crying over his body, obeying a command that she desperately longs to be true. His daughter, who longed for freedom, binding her destiny to his dream of ice and fire. Sadly they did not share his love for each other. You can be loved by all and still be lonely, and far from happy

what's so interesting is when Daemon says "you're weak," he doesn't mean it in a nefarious way. He is actually just looking out for his brother and their dynasty, he is genuinally trying to help in his own way.

That was the significance of Daemon helping his brother up to the throne in episode 8 and placing his crown back on his head. Viserys may not have been as weak as Daemon thought, but Daemon still wanted to _help_ him, not undermine him.

This is (to date) Paddy's defining performance of his career. His portrayal of a man cornered by tradition and the entrapments of sitting on the Throne, how it breaks him down bit by bit over his reign till he is a withered form of the man he once was, his desperation to keep his family together. It's captivating at every stage. Give this man every award under the sun! Also, his entrance in Episode 8 had that Dark Souls boss entrance vibe, i loved it!

As a book reader my favourite characters were probably Daemon, Rhaenyra and a character that hasn't yet appeared on the show. Having watched the show now though Viserys has undoubtably become my favourite character of season 1. Such a great character, such a great arc, such great acting. Marvelous!

Viserys is the most tragic character in the series. He wasn't a "great king" like his grandfather Jahaerys or his ancestor Aegon, but he was a good man trying to do what was best for the kingdom- but not always succeeding because he wasn't able to put the realm above his love for his family, particularly his beloved wife Aemma whose death he _never_ got over. In fact, now that I think about it, the ONE time he made a hard choice to (in his mind at least) put the realm above his family, when he ordered Aemma cut open to try and save his heir, he lost both instead, and that tragedy ruined his ability to make objective decisions about his family, leading to the discord stemming from his overprotectiveness and over-indulgence of Rhaenyra. He tried his best, but he was too _broken_ to be the good king he wanted to be. But he never stopped trying right up to his dying day and for that he is to be admired.

Viserys Targaryen first of his name was not a good King. A good man certainly, an admirable man, much to which I would compare to Tommen or Ned Stark. Though as a king he falls short. The Dance of the Dragons, the events of HOTD so vague spoilers going forward, could have been avoided if he had done any of these things listed below 1) Not Remarry after Rhaenyra was named heir (would have cost political Capitol but would have given no other candidates besides Rhaenys and Daemon, who end up on Rhaenyra’s side in the story anyway) 2) Could have imposed the marriage between Helaena and Jace 3) Could have put Aegon as heir at his birth (worst option imo but one that would have avoided the death of basically all the Targaryen Dragons making their dynasty last much longer) 4) Could have at Lionel’s death as Hand of the King put Rhaenyra in the position to groom her for rule 5) Could have positioned the Greens in less positions of power if he wanted Rhaenyra to take over 6) Could have sent Aegon away to foster with some Lord and kept Rhaenyra in King’s Landing 7) Basically in short: He could have gone all Green or All Black. He chose to play both sides by having a Green Council and a Black Heir despite the fact that they were at each other’s throats Basically if Viserys was even mildly firm in anything but the declaration of Bastardy, it would have saved the lives of many of his children/grandchildren let alone the Targaryen’s most valuable tool, the dragons. Love Viserys as a man, he was not a good king

i never really cared much for viserys in the beginning but he really did get my respect in the last episode he was in when he sat on the iron throne probably for the first time in months or even years despite his condition just to stop his family from falling apart he really did care

Finally, HOTD character video! I really liked the acting skills of Paddy Considine. His portrayal of Viserys is one of the best in this show, he is a very interesting character and you made an incredible video on him. I am currently working on this character too. At the 3:00 mark, if i didn't watch the show i would have thought this was footage from 2 different seasons. Nope. Its all one glorious ride. I think that pace does sideline some characters that could otherwise be awesome but I think they're learning from the size GoT eventually got to. Lets focus on our core, the surrounding will fall in. Especially knowing the time they'll need for other characters coming into play down the road. Great video!!!

Some argue his decision early on to choose his wife or his child make him evil, but I doubt that claim. He was given a impossible choice and it didn't matter anyway because he lost both. Good man, tragic king. The protector of the realm. 😢

he is a great king and a great person, war is easy but peace is hard keep that peace in the realm between liars and stupid bastards who like to fight each other, for power and stuff, it would be easy to get "bitty" and buy fight, but keeping the peace, demands not only a lot from himself, he proved to be the strongest there, he didn't give in to his selfish desires, but for the good of the people and his own family, he tried to keep them together until the end, notice that we like it more than Daemon he is decisive, ambitious, great warrior and at the same time a selfish son of a bitch who only thinks about himself
