With the rising price of fuel, a lot of people have been turning to hybrid vehicles. They are looking for fuel economy without sacrificing performance or features. The good news is that Toyota offers a hybrid version of virtually every vehicle in their line-up. It means that you can find a Toyota Hybrid model to suit your exact needs.
However, do you really NEED a hybrid? Does it make sense for you to choose a hybrid?
In this short video we are going to provide you with some helpful information so you can make an informed decision.
If most of your driving is on the highway, it will take you much longer to realize the payback in fuel savings. If most of your driving is around town, hybrids are at their most fuel efficient. Think of delivery drivers or taxi cabs. A hybrid is a perfect choice for this. Mostly around town. Lots of starts and stops.
Therefore, it is a good idea to decide what that means for you and your situation.
Now, let’s do a side-by-side comparison of a RAV4 Hybrid versus the gasoline-only model to show you. These numbers were originally published by the Canadian Automobile Association. We have a more complete chart available for you on our website.
The RAV4 Hybrid is approximately sixteen hundred dollars more expensive than the same gasoline only model.
If you average 10,000 kilometers per year and you do 70 percent on the highway and 30 percent in the city. You will save approximately one hundred and forty-six liters of fuel with the RAV4 Hybrid. At approximately a dollar fifty per litre, that’s two hundred and nineteen dollars in annual fuel savings. Therefore, the payback period for the RAV4 Hybrid over the gas only RAV4 is 7.5 years.
If you average 25,000 kilometers per year with the same seventy thirty split of highway versus city driving. You will save three hundred and sixty-five liters or five hundred and forty-seven dollars per year. The payback time is reduced to 3 years.
If you drive the same 25,000 kilometers per year but you are 50 percent highway and 50 percent city, then your fuel savings increase to four hundred and seventy-five liters or seven hundred and twelve dollars in annual fuel savings. The payback time for a RAV4 Hybrid is just 2.3 years.
The final factor to consider is the expected delivery time for your new RAV4 Hybrid. Wait times vary greatly. However, you should be prepared to wait from four to six months to receive one from the factory.
Currently, the wait time for gasoline powered models is a little longer. You can expect to receive a factory order in as little as 6 to 8 months.
