Mágico. Cuando te acostumbras a los tempos de Celibidache, ya todo lo demás te parece acelerado y estresante.

No hay más Ravel o Debussy que el de Celibidache para mí.

Great performance! The conductor's baton is very exact. His changing of tempo at the end of each piece is very persuasive. The audience become quieter and quieter as the music goes on. Plus the camera work is good.

I can't get enough of this recording, especially seeing the orchestra in their civies. Hearing this piece in person is definitely a bucket lister!

Sublime, maravilloso. Se escucha todo, claridad, detalles, musicalidad. El más grande Celibidache. ¡Qué triste que la música y su resultado se analicen solo desde el tempo! En fin... la ignorancia es muy atrevida.

The deliberate slowness of the "oriental" parts of this piece was a great idea.

you meant the empress of the pagodas part starting 7:10 ish? I would think it is a piece of oriental music as well if i didn't know, very nice melody!

Soucieux des couleurs Celibidache favorise chaque note afin que ''le sens'' de cette partition soit bien perçu...et il y arrive prodigieusement bien et les musiciens avec lui. Ravel est comblé.

His sharpened sensibility makes us gaze in wonderment, but he forces orchestra members so that it lacks spontaneity which is dispensable for such kind of music for children. Instead of liberation it rules here correction, restriction and compulsion.

all this pretentious crap about 'this is not how you play Ravel' He's charismatic, he's idiosyncratic. he searches for beauty & has an aesthetic that tries to emphasise that great music, at it's best, transcends time itself. Love it or hate it, it provokes a desire to explore, to engage, to have an opinion. It envigorates & diversifies the Classical tradition, & our desire to engage with it, be it for or against his vantage point. Music, of all stripes, could use a few more people like that, as opposed to cookie cutter approval seeking sycophants, forming an ever decreasing circle of pointlessly virtuosic ossified arse-licking dullardry.

Principally I dislike his too much controlling conducting invading into the originally free space of spontaneity of orchestra members. But just his Debussy it works in this case, the sharp delicacy, dim quietness and passing through transparency; in other words perfect controlling is wonderful.

This is an example of how NOT to play Ravel- especially this piece.Compare 18.30 foll with 15.30 foll in the Dutoit/ Miyazaki version. Nothing more needs to be said.
@stephenhall35156 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. This is a slack plod-fest by an overrated conductor. The Dutoit you mention is the best I have heard -- and that's over Munch and Martinon!
@JoelLeBras6 жыл бұрын
Music, a matter of length ? What about money ? Do you really thinks there's a way to play Ravel and a way not ? Are you joking ?
@JoelLeBras6 жыл бұрын
@@stephenhall3515 Celi is obviously an UNDERrated conductor. Nobody knows him but a little gang of fans and he was not very appreciated by musicians themselves. Enjoying his interpretations needs too much patience, understanding and cosmic feeling for most of humans. But I love Dutoit, he is great.
@melbapatti5 жыл бұрын
Damn, this is awful. I HATE it. IMO, his ego was way out of proportion to his modest talent. People can extol him as a genius if they wish. He was no genius. P.S. What he does to Gundula Janowitz and Richard Strauss in Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder is criminal. It’s a dragging plod-fest in excelsis. Do not f__k around with Ma Mere l’Oye or Vier letzte Lieder. They’ll annihilate you. .
