Ondine
. . . . . . . . I thought I heard
A faint harmony that enchants my sleep.
And close to me radiates an identical murmur
Of songs interrupted by a sad and tender voice.
Ch. Brugnot - The two Spirits
"Listen! - Listen! - It is I, it is Ondine who brushes drops of water on the resonant panes of your windows lit by the gloomy rays of the moon; and here in gown of watered silk, the mistress of the chateau gazes from her balcony on the beautiful starry night and the beautiful sleeping lake.
"Each wave is a water sprite who swims in the stream, each stream is a footpath that winds towards my palace, and my palace is a fluid structure, at the bottom of the lake, in a triangle of fire, of earth and of air.
"Listen! - Listen! - My father whips the croaking water with a branch of a green alder tree, and my sisters caress with their arms of foam the cool islands of herbs, of water lilies, and of corn flowers, or laugh at the decrepit and bearded willow who fishes at the line."
Her song murmured, she beseeched me to accept her ring on my finger, to be the husband of an Ondine, and to visit her in her palace and be king of the lakes.
And as I was replying to her that I loved a mortal, sullen and spiteful, she wept some tears, uttered a burst of laughter, and vanished in a shower that streamed white down the length of my blue stained glass windows.
- Aloysius Bertrand

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all well and healthy! I had some difficulties to record new videos the past months but yesterday I managed to set everything up again. Today I can finally present you one of my favorite pieces in the piano repertoire, Ravels "Ondine" from Gaspard De La Nuit. Ravel really managed to make the piano sound like something completely new, like something no other instrument can reproduce. The sheer amount of notes make it quite hard to make this piece sound like it was intended to be. One day I‘ll present you the entire Gaspard suite, I promise! Merry Christmas and a happy new year, stay safe!

This is phenomenal Mr. Bromaba, I can picture the ocean with your performance Could you play Les Jeux d'eaux de la Villa d'este? It's a rare composition Franz Liszt made. His composition has a lot of impressionism elements; in addition, Maurice Ravel was inspired by it

3:48 This part is probably where the mermaid got sad and angry at knowing that the sailor is married (Ondine is a poem, really interesting. Try reading Gaspard de la Nuit, they're poems)

this is the interpretation of this piece that's finally convinced me to give it a go myself. something about the way you play this seems more relaxed than other performances, there's more clarity to the sound somehow. it's given me some hope that this may be doable for me, so thank you for that. (not to downplay the difficulty though, i'm sure this will take me months, and i can only imagine how much work it took you to get something this hard so crisp & clear)

how long did it take for u to learn this?? also, at 4:43 why did you do left hand fingerings instead of a glissando?
@MagnusBaumgartl
@MagnusBaumgartl 3 жыл бұрын
Around 2 months. Because slow black key glissandos tend to be unsteady since you can get stuck between the keys pretty easily so it's way safer to play it with the fingers instead.
@SKBajaj-rn3sb

@@MagnusBaumgartlWOW 2 months?!!! thats insane! Also at many points you weren't able to hold to the "ppp" signature in the sheet music and sometimes the speed is a little slow, maybe you should post another rendition with these qualities a little more enhanced... this is not a negative review just some points to make it sound concert style otherwise you played it brilliantly
