What a villain. I thought clean clips of him speaking might be nice for those of us nerds trying to decipher the Chozo language (I'll put up Quiet Robe clips soon). Turn on the CC for translated English subtitles!

I love that his signature quote is "Power is Everything". At face value it is pretty generic. But what makes it so memorable is that it is only spoken through chozo tongue and only translated via subtitles once. This means you are left to recall and contextualize the first time you heard him speak these alien words. The audience is made to think about this line whenever they hear it spoken in a language they do not truly understand. It sticks with you far stronger than if had just been spilled out in anyone's mother tongue. Whoever is on the writing team for this game, they managed to take a run of the mill villain line and make it memorable through a brilliant translation trick. I hope they get a pay raise.

Some fun insights from this project: - It seems the Chozo pronunciation of Metroid is close to "Mathruid" and they say Samus Aran like "Tamoos Arlan" - I knew Raven Beak X says "hadar sen olmen" but I didn't know he groans "Samu-us", that's so creepy! - So that last clip was only in v1.01 and got removed in the v1.02 update. I got a translation (see the link in the description) of what he's saying. Makes me wonder if he was originally going to get infected by an X on purpose, in order to further push Samus to accept her role as the ultimate Metroid? idk just theories here

@@thundercharged1 I think that was a conscious decision to use something like Spanish or Japanese for phonetics: the vowel sounds have strict pronunciation in those languages, unlike say English where the vowel sound will change with context, Doing that makes both developing the language and then teaching it to someone else much easier. In regards to "Tamoosh Arlan," I think that's an intentional mispronunciation: The name "Samus Aran" is not Chozo in origin, and it's perfectly logical that the Chozo might actually struggle pronouncing her name, "Tamoosh Arlan" being a close phonetic approximation. I think Mercury Steam may have actually accounted for the Chozo to be speaking through beaks rather than teeth when developing the language, which would be a really detailed touch if that's the case.

Yes thus far most of the metroid fighters are a variation of Samus, someone else who isn't her would be nice. Also I don't mean to sound rude but i think it was a lazy decision to make Dark Samus an echo fighter. Dark Samus has so much potential to stand as her own fighter and not a copy of Samus, thier fights in the Prime should make this very clear. She was a powerhouse in the Prime series but Smash kinda down played her. Actual mods of Dark Samus in Project M are what I'm talking about as they drive closer to home for her than Ultimate did, but that's just my opinion. Nonetheless I agree if another Smash is made Raven Beak should definitely be in it.

Raven Beak is truly evil. He organized the genocide of the Thoha Chozo, allowed his own tribe, the Mawkin, to die for him, let the X parasite run wild to test Samus as a weapon. He's the reason the Space Pirates got the Metroids, he created Samus to be his ultimate weapon. Who knows what else he's done? He reprogrammed the E.M.M.Is, which means he also reprogrammed the Central Units, which we know are Federation recreations of Mother Brain. He likely could have worked to create Mother Brain as well. He also has incredible skill at flight. Did he train Ridley to kill Samus's human parents? And we know the Chozo created the Federation. Could he be the source of corruption in the Federation ranks as seen in Other M and Fusion, wanting to weaponize the X and the Metroids? We know the Federation wanted to weaponize the X, so that means he must be incredible smart. If Samus fails, Raven Beak would likely conquer the entire galaxy. He had to be stopped.

Well, actually, the game does not mention who created the Central Units. They could still be created by Chozo, and EMMIs continue to function even after brain death. Plus the protective cover of the Central Unit contains letters in the Chozo language. And in the game there is a mural depicting the struggle of the Chozo tribe with the Space Pirates. So, Raven Beak most likely has nothing to do with them.

@@animator-eb1lc well, the way I understand the Chozo archives and Quiet Robe's cut scene; after Raven blasted the first EMMI he took the battered robot to Robe for study and from there, they created the Central Unit, completely cutting the EMMI from the federation. So yes, the Central Unit is made by Chozo, modeled after mama brain.

After playing this one and studying all the archives, here is how I think his story goes. Raven Beak is the leader of the Mawkin tribe, and well respected among the Thoha. When the Thoha adopt Samus, they ask Raven Beak to donate his DNA so she can have physical prowess and her own version of his power suit. I don't think Raven Beak had intentions to harm the Thoha quite yet, but I don't doubt that he had his own plans regarding Samus; he probably saw her as a protege that would join his cause and enforce his will. I think some of the warrior statues on Zebes could be depictions of him, like the ghost mural that you fight at the end of Zero Mission to get the full powered suit. I don't think he had any involvement with anything else that happens. No contact with the Pirates, the Federation, or the Thoha. Just him and his tribe conquering other parts of the galaxy. YEEAAARRSSS later, probably around the same time Mother Brain revolts against the Thoha and joins the Space Pirates, the Thoha on SR388 deploy the Metroids against the X and are successful. But then the Metroids break the control and the Thoha and Mawkin trap the Metroids below the surface. Raven Beak shows up and learns about the Metroids. He kills the Thoha, sparing Quiet Robe, so they don't blow up the planet. He gathers the Mawkin tribe on their home planet ZDR to prepare for the capture of all the Metroids on SR388, but they come back after Samus has already killed them all. They return to ZDR, but one of his soldiers was infected by the X, and ends up infecting the entire tribe, so Raven Beak traps them all in quarantine. Raven Beak and Quiet Robe are stuck alone on ZDR for a couple of years. How do they find out that Samus was injected with Metroid DNA? Don't know, but the game implies that they know, so they send the Federation footage of an X parasite as an effort to bait Samus to coming. First the Federation sends the EMMI units, so Raven Beak had Quiet Robe create the Central Control Units (baby Mother Brains) to reprogram the EMMI to help hunt down Samus and take her Metroid DNA. Raven meets Samus and beats the crap out of her to make her Metroid DNA activate and advance in it's spread through her body. His original plan is to extract the active DNA so he can make more Metroids, but during their fight at the end he decides he would rather make direct clones of Samus herself. Then she goes full Metroid and slaps him silly. Then he gets infected by an X and then she blasts him into ash. I don't think he was pulling many strings behind the background. He probably killed Space Pirates on sight, and he probably would have killed Mother Brain and Ridley if they interfered with his own plans. I think he was an evil tyrant at heart from the beginning, but I don't think he started pushing his evil agenda until he killed the Thoha tribe on SR388.

In fact, this fictitious language really does sound like something out of Star Wars. Raven Beak is just the coolest enemy ever! He's incredibly strong, obviously, but also cunning and intelligent. He led Samus on the entire time to believe she was talking to Adam, mimicking him perfectly and presenting obstacles to ensure her evolution as a Metroid. He's also agile and adaptive during their fight. Usually villains end up having strentgh but lacking intellegence. Literally, he lacks nothing!

We think it’s the core X from the Z-57 battle. Fell into the lava so it didn’t die, then it scooped up Kraid’s DNA (Kraid’s remains in the lava nearby) and went to the surface.

Have you beat Metroid Fusion? If not, I suggest wait until beating it before reading the rest of this comment. . . . . . . Keep in mind that the X can assume forms that are, in essence, combinations of any previous hosts that they infected. We see this happening with the SA-X during its last battle with Samus, resulting in the grotesque form that combined features from Samus' armor itself with that of a hornoad and whatever other creatures that may be responsible for the extra mouths and eyes on its resulting new body. Which is the form the SA-X assumes out of desperation in trying to defeat Samus. With this in mind, what EmblemBlade9 said is pretty much inferred to be correct.

It's meant to fit the naming convention established in the Metroid manga. The two Chozo in the manga were called Old Bird and Gray Voice. Dread continues the [adjective] [noun] naming convention with Quiet Robe and Raven Beak, with 'raven' being used to describe a dark color.
