Great old school metal from England. Love em! Despite all the naysayers on here, Raven influenced alot of bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Death, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Exodus, Anthrax, Testament, Bathory etc.

In the american Thrash Metal scene of the 80's ALL thrash metal bands give credits to NWOBHM. ALL. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Overkill, Testament, Nuclear Assault, etc... American power metal scene in the 80's, ditto. American death metal scene in the 80's, ditto. American Prog Metal scene in the 80s, ditto. Bands of all those scenes always cited NWOBHM as their main influence.

The early 80's were an awsome time for Heavy Metal. Classic bands like Raven, Mercyful Fate, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Witchfinder General, Ozzy with Randy Rhoades... Man, those days will never come back. The music that passes for "metal" these days is unbelievably crappy and uninspired compared to vintage gems like this. If I see another KZbin pee-wee making references to unoriginal copycats like Zakk Wylde, then I think I'm gonna hurl. NWOBHM was and is the best metal era of all-time.

@rabidgerry Thank you. I couldn't have said it better. @darrin conner Raven were so ahead of their time by light years. Do some music research. You desperately need it. Raven has been over the top for close to 40 years. Non stop touring and releasing album after album. I suppose you don't like Motörhead either since Lemmy has a unique voice as well. Crawl back under your rock and rethink your uneducated musical statements.

following glen cornish's example, john made (or got someone to make) the whammy bridge himself, because there was nothing on the market. I think the body is home-made, with a fender jazz neck, but yes- patterned after an explorer shape. this was 1980-81, long before BC Rich & the other pointy guitars of speed metal.
@duncan-rmiАй бұрын
"My custom red explorer with the tremolo was added by the next album. I had asked for a bass that could not be broken..so it’s a plywood body, a copy jazz neck, Schaller machines and a DiMarzio P pickup…I cajoled a local repair guy to build me a tremolo…and added a bridge pickup not long after."

none of these other bands mentioned were anywhere close to as fast as Raven were. 5 guys were trying to play keep up with 3. Still to this day this band is simple brilliant. Fuck Metallica! They should have at least repaid Raven over the years to tour with them, Raven showed them the ropes and Metallica never did shit for them. Lars acts like such a uber fan how come he's not bringing bands out to play shows without them as a thank you for the inspiration and helping us.

The true forefathers of contemporary power metal, and THEN some! On their first album they promised to Rock Until You Drop, and it's been 34 years later and they've kept that promise just fine! Check the new album out, "ExtermiNation" and find out just how strong these guys are still going!

I think I got off on the wrong foot when I first heard them. "Stay Hard" was not a good starting point, as the album seemed really commercial, and that wasn't where my head was at the time. Their older stuff is a lot more edgy and aggressive.

Never understood this band, from the very first time we heard them we knew they totally sucked, like sucked really bad. There shitty musicians, they write shitty songs, weak licks, vocalist is the typical 80's singer etc etc.I don't really consider them thrash pioneers because there not thrash enough to even be considered thrash. Any guitarist could hear there songs once and play them.
@JoeSonic56788 жыл бұрын
But they're fun
@tonylane9417 жыл бұрын
Darrin Connor You can't beat the raw energy in their sound. For three guys, they fire enough juice to contend with bands like Judas Priest, Accept, and even early Metallica. Listen to Kill Em' All and tell me you don't hear a similar sound. James Hetfield could never pull off the power John Gallagher packs into his vocals.
@tonylane9417 жыл бұрын
Darrin Connor You want technicality? Go listen to Satan, Coroner, Annihilator, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, ect... Raw heavy metal isn't about complexity, it's about blowing off steam. Power, Attitude, Volume, and Passion. When they play, you can tell they mean it. It's exciting, invigorating, entertaining, fun, and brash. You can have all the skill and technicality in the world and still make boring, uninspired music that doesn't generate any feelings on the listener whatsoever. There's no passion, just cheap hooks and mindless scale runs. You try picking up a bass and try putting out the same stamina as the band members you're playing with while singing at the top of your lungs. Not even Lemmy can pull off that much raw energy and engaging performance.
