Raven back in their early days had everything they needed to be a success. Fast speed, thrashing riffs, and cheesy ass lyrics. But when they signed up with Atlantic Records, they were asked to change their style both physically and musically to resemble hair metal like Poison, they lost whatever momentum they had and it was all downhill from there. Their first 4 albums were their best work.
@johngallagher77444 жыл бұрын
And then 34 years ago they went back to what they do best and have been doing it ever since... you just may want to listen to one of those albums!!! Especially the new one!

One of the best Metal bass players of all time. One of my Bass Heroes and also a total gentleman because I got to know him and open for Raven when they played in Puerto Rico. My favorite song "On The Wings Of An Eagle" starts with a bass intro that is nothing but extraordinary and beautiful. John Gallagher for me is a living legend!!!

JG raised the bass playing bar in metal in the 1980s. He was ahead of his time and put the bass in the forefront of music, not just supporting rhythm section as most did in that era. Met him in NYC opening for Accept in 2015.... Have his pic over my desk in my office.

"Cliff Burton?.... Never heard of her." - Raven
@hammerhorde4 жыл бұрын
I remember getting into Raven in the mid 80`s. Everyone I knew back then thought either Cliff Burton or Steve Harris was like the end all metal bass god, but John is one baddass on the bass who in my opinion blew all the other bassists out of the water back then.
@rohantiwari78014 жыл бұрын
Steve Harris is the GOAT
@hammerhorde4 жыл бұрын
@@rohantiwari7801 As much as I thought how cool Steves bass lines sounded back in the day. He never did anything on the instrument that was anywhere near as impressive or as technical as Johns playing is. It was the standard Maiden gallop and that was his signature style and it worked for them. I`ve never seen Steve tap or do a solo that was anything like what John can do. As a matter of fact, I never seen Steve showcase any other abilities on the bass besides what he plays in the songs.
@bastrixer4 жыл бұрын
@@hammerhorde I agree with you, Steve harries has his signature galop, which hé use alot, but Its not like his playstyle is uniqe, he is good yes but listen to a few maiden albums after eachothers or learn them on the bas like I have and you Will find out that it is almost more or less always the same thing hé does.

@psycho'si carter I'm a bass player... Not a very good one... But his work on Kiss albums in the 70s is gold. Then he started making movies and Paul, Bruce, or a session guy did all the bass. Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick once said Gene Simmons made a fortune playing the open E and A. Hahaha

@johngallagher77443 жыл бұрын
Hi! Signal chain on this is a Boss GT-1 into a jam box mini speaker! Works fine for doing this! The eight string Iceman .. well I used a Schaller 8 string bass bridge .. blocked off the original tuner holes and repositioned / calculated the new 8 tuner holes and re cut the nut!
