I crossed this bridge at night, 7 years ago. It was beautifully illuminated at night and was stunning in profile as I approached it. Sorry I didn't have the time to explore Charleston while there but may go back one day.

Fear is weakness. No need to be scared of this bridge. If and when I get a chance, I'm riding my Harley over it one day.

I've been on this bridge on the city bus in the 1970s, I was a teenager then. It was real high and scary to me at least. 🚌

I think you might be thinking of one of the older bridges that this one replaced. I believe this one was constructed until the early 2000s.

I grew up in Charleston, left for Arizona in '93 but live in Florida. I've only been over the old Cooper River Bridges and the Mark Clark one a few times. In the old days, (going into Mt Pleasant} you could go left towards Boone Hall and onwards towards Myrtle Beach and straight towards Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms, but these signs says left to Isle of Palms and right to Sullivan's. There's a new way to Isle of Palms? The little bridge that connected the two islands, is it still there?

I can understand! I always have a feeling of relief when I get to the other end of a long, high bridge.

@@emsolo Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg Florida is more scarier than this. The ascent to the top is intimidating and no short railways on the side, you can see water.

@@bruceperez2283 Yea, I drove it going to Isle of Palms on vacation a few years ago. I swore I'd never cross it again. I ended up taking the other bridge to the north to get back and it was much less intimidating.

I hate high bridges too; but this bridge looks way worse from a distance than driving over it. Seems less scary from the Mt. Pleasant side bc you go thru a light and your up on it. Beautiful view of Old Charleston and the harbor. Glad I forced myself to cross it.

You have no idea how relieved I am from reading your comment. My husband and I will be visiting Mt Pleasant and knowing we'll have to take this bridge has terrified me. I have an extreme fear of heights.

@@HealthyandLovingLife you’ll love Mt. Pleasant. We stayed over in Folly Beach 🏖; but ventured over to see Boone Hall Plantation. (My folks have a hard time walking & they have a tractor tram tour around the property). Wanted to eat @ one of the restaurants on Shem’s Creek in Mt. Pleasant. They were too packed :(.
