Benkei's death always makes me think of the npc voiceline in Space Hulk Deathwing: "IF I AM TO DIE, I DIE STANDING!!!"

Every time I see Sohei sprint, I can't help but imagine he's thinking, "Why do I do this to myself?" and it makes me chuckle a little.

When i play as sohei, i don't know why, but i feel like an even more truly impressive warrior than i do with my other for honor champions
@Virus_24566 күн бұрын
I think there a 2 reasons to why you think this. It’s gotta be because of how hard it is to literally play Sohei and in Lore Sohei is already an impressive warrior compared to the rest of the cast.
@EA-wr2xg3 ай бұрын
To be fair Raven, he says "Teach the ways of **THE** Sohei", now, he could be saying that he is the sole one, but I think that a more reasonable assumption is that there might have not been any Sohei in heathmoor specifically, or at least, they hadn't migrated with the imperial court like many of the samurai and peasant-class did to the Myre from their old lands.

An outstanding video Raven. I used to find Sohei taxing and frustrating, but I've come to enjoy him for his unique take on For Honor's combat. And to all Sohei players out there... Kakugo wa deki teru ka!

Another amazing video Raven. Seeing them add Sohei was a surprise for me, I wasn't expecting them to pull out a Japanese legend for a hero but it was a welcome surprise. I absolutely love to hear you explain the historical aspects of this hero in such depth, especially considering the little I knew about the Sohei and Benkei. On a side note though I hope ya'll are ok over there with the storm and all.

Fun Fact, Enyrakuji, the most notorious Sohei Temple still exist to this day. Infamous for opposing both Imperial and Shogunate Government in the Kamakura and Sengoku Era, this temple function little more than gangsters. Running loanshark rackets, burning rival temple and monopolizing the soy sauce industry. They were also the biggwst rivals of the Ikko Ikki Monks. After their defeat by the Oda, they ceased being warrior monks like the Ikko, and they remained to this day. However, funny enough, they never stopped continuing their criminal ways even after centuries. in 2000, the Yakuza wanted to host a banquet in a holy place to demonstrate their power and influence. While most Shrines and Temple rejected them. The Enyrakuji accepted them, took their money, and let them party in their temple. Understandably, the Tokyo police isn't too happy about this, but cannot do much due to religious freedom, merely made a complaint to the Enyrakuji Monks. Which they promptly ignored. Later, mainstream media began reporting on Enyrakuji and Yakuza affliations, but the monks again didn't budge. However the third time, the Japans Association of Temple and Shrines, which is basically the national association of all Buddhist Temples and Shrines started condemning them. Chief of which was a mordern incarnation of the Ikko Ikki. The Enyrakuji finally wavered and publicly stopped the Yakuza Banquets. They even made a public apology on their own temple website. So yes, the Enyrakuji not just pioneered the Sohei, but also a youtuber apology before youtuber apologies are a thing.

So the standing death trope has been around in the west for quite a long time as well My favorite example being Cu Chulainn because not only does he stay standing after he deid, he also killed someone well after death as well

it consistently blows my mind how the for honor team sticks to historical accuracies with each hero! Sure the Sohei isnt a 1:1 with Benkei, but I think he's not meant to be. only a very close approximation which pays homage to the OG. That's where the "inaccuracies" or differences come from. The for honor team made their own warrior monk!

I read yoshitsune’s biography and it said that he actually met Benkei at a monk temple and became friends with him at a young age
@giggityskull89863 ай бұрын
I would have to disagree that they replaced his "masakari" with a short sword. BENKEI did have a sword, whether it was a katana or wakizashi who knows but he did in fact have one. People mistake him for having 7 weapons, when in reality he has 8. I THINK the kamayari is a great addition to him because in my opinion it's a merge between a naginata and masakari axe. Why? Because he Thrust like a spear, and swing it down like an axe.

Crazy how ubisoft can respect japanese culture here but can't seem to get it right in assassins creed shadows.

Bro... Assassin's creed has never cared about accuracy. cry about it I guess.
@ninjaman3812 ай бұрын
@chocolatecake30 either your to young and dumb to realize that isn't true or you haven't played or read ANY of the earlier games and books up to you unity (orgins is debatable). Experiencing history was literally the forefront reason alot of us played the games. Because ubisoft used to actually care about such things. Ezio Auditore was one the best written characters in gaming history and his story was perfectly written into historical fiction. Your just so full of hate and insecurities that you fail to actually look at the current dilemma and actually use that last brain cell of yours. Actually THINK for once and stop being a media sheep and just going with the flow of mass opinion. Real fans know that Assassins creed cared before, but it's become tainted with bs modern woke ideals and no longer walk the path of integrity to history. Maybe think about it next time before becoming a keyboard troll 🧌. Also CRY about it because your intelligence certainly matches one.
@thereseemstobeenanerror12192 ай бұрын
@@chocolatecake30 Half correct they did care about accuracy. They just never let it get in the way of the story. They also had their protagonist be the dominant ethnic population of the area. But that's a different can of worms.
