Heroes in History: Aramusha

Aramusha, or Ronin, as he should be called. A character I've long had mixed feelings about. On the one hand, he's amazing! I think he's a cool character with a sweet theme of rouge or renegade who doesn't respect authority and seeks his own way in life. But, at the same time...that stupid hat. I know a lot of people like it, but I'd love it if he lost it. But today we're talking about the man beneath the hat and who he was based on in history.
Also, stay tuned at the end of the video for my first attempt at a sort of meme compilation. It's actually quite hilarious, if I do say so myself. Nothing Vitaneon or Hypersouls worthy, but I worked hard on it. ;)

Problem: aramusha is meant to be lacking in armor, it fits his move set of fast pace attacks and armor is heavy, he would be able to most of his moves but his infinite light chain would be impossible for him not to be as fast as he is but getting rid of reality, that would be badass

@@declicitous1763 Of course, that is video game logic most of the time. Armor weight is evenly distributed throughout the body. Think of it like slightly heavier clothes that protect you. It doesn't decrease mobility by much really, especially samurai armor in most cases. But logistics aside, I agree that Aramusha would look cool if he had actual samurai armor. In all fairness, his armored hat variants are real pieces of armor used by the common footsoldier in Japan known as Ashigaru. His armored hat variant is known as a Jingasa.

One thing I've noticed: Aramusha's twin katanas are shorter than Orochi's katana. I think orochi's is actually an O Katana given it's length.

Actually Aramusha's swords appear to be Katate-Uchi "One Handed Fighting sword" as seen with his weapons having shorter, one handed handles than their katana counterparts

Was VERY happy to hear you mention Miyamoto Musashi in this video. When I hear the term "Ronin" he is the man that I immediately think of. Even when he was a Samurai, he always played by his own rules, and even more so when he became a Ronin. Just out of pure curiosity, Raven, do you own a copy of Musashi's "Book Of Five Rings"?

Also after watching ruroni kenshin, I do think they are Kodachi like Aoshi Shinomori where after his duel with Kenshin he does adopt a two sword style with the kodachi. Still think it’s weird to call them katana because I think they are actually shorter and smaller than the Orochi’s katana

@@RavenKnightYT Oh hey, out of curiosity. I was playing FH and thinking about how most Gender Locked Characters either made sense or not and when I got to Aramusha I was curious to ask. Has there ever been Female Ronin (specifically Samurai) during Feudal Times? If there was, were they less common than males and are there any known females not spoken of?

Most shinobi ended up in a similar way. With the war over their job wasn't required anymore. I've also heard that a big point of the war in Korea was to deal with the over abundance of samurai.

Not quite. During the Edo period, daimyo might have been at peace, but espionage and spying was still necessary. Shinobi had plenty of work until the 18th century. And the war with Korea was partly to give the samurai something to do, and also so Hideyoshi could start his great Utopia plan.

I found this on the wiki so ofc, take this with a grain of salt, but on the page for The Book of Five Rings, it states this "Musashi states within the volume that one should train with a long sword in each hand, thereby training the body and improving one's ability to use two blades simultaneously." Do you maybe have some insight on how true or not this is? If it is indeed true, it could be a slight indication on why Aramusha uses 2 katana, to show that he is so well trained that he can handle using 2 of them. I'd love to know more about it if anyone knows about this topic!

As someone who trains in Niten Ichi-ryū (the style developed by Mushashi himself), I think the thing with dual wielding 2 katanas is that its just really inefficent. Even if you have the strength required to wield both effectively, there are various factors that will hold you down like the length of the handle or even the length of the blade itself, since in Niten Ichi most of the time its one sword for defending and one for attacking/countering.

I'm a Japanese, let me clear this up, Aramusha is Japanese equivalent of daredevil 荒武者 and The ronin based off Aramusha was 100% the man who wrote the study of Nintenichi 二件一 two swords as one but didn't make it, and yes you can use it battle, using two to divert the energy to each arm like using one with two arms, with train, practice, endurance, muscle, speed, you can using alot of things~ Musashi Miyamoto宮本武蔵 and I'm very proud you didn't leave him out. Ronin means 浪人 Road-man= like you said Wanderer. Also Japan is very uniform making it so Nintenichi has value to two equal sword the mirror eachother with each arm, any weapon will wear you out over time, and if you like even I'd do a demo for you youtube channel if you want to meet up. I have studied four sword arts as a child being born into martial arts.

The two swords are equal that's why the name means that~ Two Swords as One, but ofcourse people overtime could make their own style of it and teach it, making books out of it- Tomoya Yamaguchi 🇯🇵

@@RavenKnightYT We'll of course, if you're not strong physically and not used to it then yeah of course but you that modern day saying "just built different" just cause a individual or select few like or can do it doesn't mean the same for others. and like everything even though adrenaline keeps you awake nearly all of the battle it goes down a bit because you are using more of you body, pros and cons= two weapons and chance to defend while attacking and other cool stuff I could demo, but my point is not better or worse just harder to learn, get used to, and different.

I train, as a wannabe samurai, and we have wooden katanas, cheap, and rather heavy in a two hand sense, you can not block at all dual bladed like aramusha does, but, if you turn your left hand upside down , you can hold it close to your body and block, its akward, but ive found it works dueling friends and my father who has recently gotten into it. And the right hand simply dawns moves from training one handed.

You know, I do wonder why they decide to do two katanas and not just do the actual katana and wakizashi combo like it is. I suppose one possible reason is that they want to cut on animation/actually animating the Wakizashi and they decided to just duplicate the Orochi's Katana? I mean, I can't really think of what other reasons could there be outside of that...kind of makes me worry of the new hero coming in 2 weeks.

From what I understand, Aramusha and Shinobi are part of the same organization, which may indicate Shinobis are more focus on assassins and sabotage, while Aramusha are maybe more.. Bodyguard position?

It's interesting that the two weapon styles are reversed in roles when comparing Japanese and European dual wielding. Indeed, katanas were about as heavy as a European longsword, so it makes sense to use it to block and parry, whereas late Europeans used rapiers (which were surprisingly heavy, but mostly in the hilt, allowing more efficient stabbing while increasing defense with a complex guard) to attack and daggers to parry and lock the opponent's weapon.

One of my favorite things about Aramusha was how different all his sets felt while still being _not a samurai._ It's nice to hear about different Ronin tales and how real world combat techniques differs from the Ronin we know, and honestly makes Aramusha's harder to use weapon pair seem even more interesting to watch play.
