Are they actually singing phrases? Or are they just vocalizing?
@ajharvey4 жыл бұрын
These are some of our oldest and most used songs among our Ponca people. Songs were composed for Ponca warriors or to signify a battle that took place. Or were also used as a prayer to our creator for giving us this dance or “hethuska”. This was a men only dance. Some songs that were sung on this tape have Ponca names or phrases in them. There were two or three different volumes of this tape.

This is also the album I listen to while planting our garden on our original 1906 allotment land my gr-gr grandfather used to farm and live on. 4 generations later, I play this after planting and dance all the way around it, wishing for a fruitful garden to help feed others for free. I know gpa Ne-wal-la is here and listening. I play these songs for him and other relatives to hear. It is soothing for them. ❤️

And Tokashila do we ever need peace of spirit its right now. Going into to this new year, we need the strength of spirit to do it. its a long and hard road ahead but we have to keep going for all the people ahead. There have been two prophesies now, and they say the same thing. Its going to be a long hard battle between good and bad. But good heart wins in the end. But there will be losses.

During this period many Indian people still frowned on recorded music, like literature. This album broke that barrier and would still be another 15 years before drum groups formed to record albums and tapes. Non-Indains helped popularize this album. I'd like to see the sales stats.
@RavenPontiacMedia11 ай бұрын
Not entirely true, I have many albums from prior to this and surrounding this period. They had plenty of recordings of the various nations since the invention of the wax cylinders. Unfortunately the older records are more fragile because of the materials so many of the albums are very rare these days thankful to own a few. I've had a few of those albums removed by youtube for guidelines strike.
