Never heard this version of Fireball XL5 theme before ... it is really different than others ... and it totally ROCKS ! Also never heard that extra verse before.. Not sure if it is part of original song or something new added ... but it sure is a cool addition & fills out the classic song even more ... thanks for posting this master- piece .... !

I heard this song only one time on Atlanta college radio in 1982, maybe it was 1983, it has echoed half-correct in my brain for some 32 years. Thanks for posting this rare song to settle down my past.

One morning as I was waking up this came on the radio, so it did get at least one play on UK radio. I can't remember which station as I've always been a station hopper. Anyway, I was instantly hooked , went out and bought the single. It's still my favorite version of this song and as a bonus the B side is great too. Good work.

I'm a bit hard of hearing after flying helicopters for many years, but I listened to this version only 2 days ago only to learn that it was done way back in 1982! I listened to the verse with the part about going to Mercury, but, I was not able to properly hear the additional verses and lyrics. If somebody can share them with me, it sure would be very much appreciated as it is a very good version of the original song sung by Don Spencer. Best regards to one and all!

@darvinion That's a very good question! I acquired the record second hand and bought it on the strength of the title. The entire Interweb has NOTHING on the "band" - thus I suspect they were session singers used by a producer to create this one record.
